Available Bulldogs:

Hundreds of Bulldogs are lost, abandoned, taken to animal shelters, or surrendered to rescue every year. This is the price of popularity. (The Bulldog is among the 24 most popular breeds). Buyers are intrigued by the Bulldog's many charms, only later to discover the special care that may come with their wrinkles, "pushed in" faces, unusual structure, and, in some cases, genetic faults from irresponsible breeding.

The Bulldogs that come through the rescue program are seldom in "perfect" condition in terms of health, temperament or both. Frequently, it is health and/or behavior problems that cause the owners to be willing to give up the dog. The average age of rescue Bulldogs is about four or five, and few Bulldogs are ever surrendered to rescue under the age of three.

Bella

Bella

Bella is a sweet little girl.  She has not had a lot of love from humans but she craves attention.  Her foster mom says she will lay in your lap and be very still, enjoying the attention.  Bella is very timid and will hide behind furniture until she is sure of the situation.  She walks with her head down as if she is afraid of being hit or yelled at.  As soon as she feels comfortable she will be your little shadow.  Bella has been great with her foster mom’s other dogs and kids.  There seems to be no aggression food or otherwise.  She needs to put on some weight because she is very thin.  Her foster mom reports she is completely housetrained.  We are currently treating her for Lyme Disease but that should clear up with proper treatment.  Bella will be up to date on her vaccinations, spayed and on heartworm preventative.  Her adoption fee is $400.

Roberta

Roberta

Roberta is a sweet playful bully who enjoys a good walk every day. She'll even remind you where her leash is and bring it to you when you're taking too long to get ready.  Favorite toys include hard rubber balls, she's an advanced fetcher and can catch the ball right in the air.  She loves the water, sprinklers are her favorite on a hot day.  After graduating from obedience school, Berta is well versed in basic commands such as, sit, down, high-five, and leash walking.  She will not release any command without being told 'free'.  Her recall is way beyond 5ft and she understand the words 'leave it' for anything she doesn't need to pay attention too.  Dinner time is her favorite time and she will shake her head back and forth with excitement when she hears the word, "Papa time". Only when released will she devour her meal.  Currently attending socialization training, we hope to work with Roberta anxiety surrounding meeting new people and other animals. Current on all vaccinations and just passed her physical exam with the vet.

Her adoption fee is $400.

Lucy

Lucy

Lucy is a lovely red bully girl.  We think she is about 3 years old.  Lucy came to rescue from a local shelter so we don’t have much information on her background.  We know that when she came to shelter she had recently had puppies and was still lactating.  Apparently she was used as a puppy factory and for whatever reason they were through with her.  Lucy was spayed and is currently in a foster home.  Her foster family describes her as a “fabulous dog with men, women and teenagers” but was very aggressive toward the small family dog.  For that reason we will only consider placing her with a family that has no other pets and no small children.  Lucy is a very intelligent girl and just needs a chance to become a loving pet for a new family.  Please consider Lucy as your new family member, she deserves a little love and happiness.  Her adoption fee is $450 and that includes a spay, vaccinations and on heartworm preventative.

Nixon

Nixon

Nixon came to us in horrible condition, severely emaciated to the point that the shelter was considering putting him down.  Lone Star Bulldog Club/Rescue quickly swooped in and took Nixon to our vet for an evaluation.  After much testing it was determined that we thought we could save him.  With the excellent care that Dr. Ross and her staff gave him he has bounced back.  He came in weighing 34lbs and is now up to about 50lbs, he should top out at about 65lbs.

Nixon has been very friendly to the staff, jumping and licking them in joy.  He needs more training on the leash but is now kennel trained, so we feel like in a home situation he would be housetrained.  We don’t know how he will do around other animals but he does bark at the other dogs in the vet’s office.  There are many times that we see that change when they get into a home setting.  Being in a kennel situation with other barking dogs tends to make them the same way, barking!

In Nixon’s short 2 year life he has come back from the brink of death.  We feel he will make a great dog, can you give him a chance at a happy life?  He will continue to put on weight and we will evaluate him again in a home setting.  Nixon will be  up to date his vaccinations, neutered and on heartworm preventative.  His adoption fee is $500.

Patches

Patches

Patches is a pretty petite girl about 5 years old.  She was turned into an animal shelter in south east Texas because they wanted her put to sleep.  From what we can piece together from the shelter, the family kept her outside and nearly bred her to death. Her last puppies died so she was of no use to them anymore.  Thankfully the shelter refused to euthanize her and gave us a call.  She was pulled from the shelter and given a ride by a Good Samaritan to DFW.  She has some moderate health issues that we are working to correct.  Patches has just that, patches of hair loss.  Our vet feels it is all allergy related and she is already beginning to respond to treatment.  Her tail was extremely infected and had to be removed and her ears were severely bitten by flies.  Patches’ recovery will be a slow one but we think she will completely recover from all her ailments.

Patches’ foster dad says that she is very loving and starved for attention.  She is fine with his cat and doesn’t seem to have any reaction to other dogs.  She will always be a very small dog even when she is returned to a normal weight.  The grandkids have been over and she did fine with them also.  Patches is doing well with her house training and with a little more time she should be completely house trained.  Her adoption fee is $400 which will include a spay, vaccinations and be on a heartworm preventative.

Baby

Baby

Hi, my name is Baby, but I am really a big girl!  I am 4 years old and just want to wrestle and play.  I am a tomboy at heart and I am an independent girl.  I will follow you around, but I am just as happy going and resting in my kennel.  I am a leader and not a follower, so other dogs and cats stay away!  I want to be on my own and have my own family all to myself.  They say I need a family with bulldog experience, one that can handle a headstrong bully so if that is you I may be the girl for you!!

I have been a very sweet girl to my foster mom and have not had one single accident in the house.  I am spayed, up to date on my shots and on heartworm preventative.  My adoption fee is $400.

Ozzie

Ozzie

The following is from Ozzy’s foster mom and will give you a good idea of what he is like

So far here is what I have seen in Ozzy.  He is really very sweet, & good with people, gentle with kids, & fine with other dogs.  I don't know about cats.  He needs someone to be firm with him so that he becomes a little more disciplined.  His owner was an older woman who just let him become a little bratty in that he's just pushy when he wants something.  After a few days, he is becoming more focused on me, but to him that means he wants my attention all the time.  I think she must not have really been too interactive with him, because he does not really know how to play.  As he gets more comfortable with me, he is showing excitement at seeing me when I come back from being away from him.  But he doesn't show a desire to play with my other dog or any interest in toys.  I hope I can change that.

His size is a real disadvantage in this heat; he overheats remarkably faster than my other bulldogs, so getting some weight off of him is a priority.  He actually is not eating very much, so it might be more complicated than it seems.  But I am sure he will get used to the dog food only thing eventually & get into the routine.  I hope that with some good nutrition the spots on his sides will fill in.

He is fairly responsive to firm commands, so with some work I think he will improve.  He is starting to look to me for what is ok to do now, but is still more comfortable on leash when responding to commands.

Happily, he is house trained, & is crate trained as well.  He likes to go in the car.  I've been taking him to work with me, & put him on a tether in my office that reaches about 2 feet out into the store.  He gets lots of attention from customers, & loves it.  He whines when anyone stops petting him or when he wants attention he's not getting, so I'm working on that too.

On the plus side, he is a good walker.  We go around the block morning & night, 10-15 minutes, at a pretty good clip.

For what it's worth, I think he would be good in a lot of situations.  He is not toy aggressive & he has not shown a tendency to jump (although that might be because he is just too fat to get airborne) so I think he would be good with small children.  He does get antsy if he hasn't had enough exercise, so I can see how his owner might have thought he was difficult to control if she lived in an apartment & didn't walk him.  He's very active for an overweight 5 year old.  He would not be good left on his own for any period of time, even with another dog, so I think he would be best where there was someone home the better part of the time, at least initially.

Once we get his bald spots fixed, he's very healthy.  No signs of dry eye or entropian (although he had surgery for cherry eye as a one or two year old).  He has some allergies that manifest on his paws, but I suspect those might be manageable with the right diet.

I really like him, & I think the right person for him is someone who will understand what he needs.

As with all our dogs Ozzy will be up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and neutered.  His adoption fee is $400.

Harley

Harley

Hi, I’m Handsome Harley!! I am a very active bulldog about 2 to 3 years old. I love to play, tennis balls are my very favorite but I do love playing with other dogs too.  Lone Star Bulldog Rescue had their nice vet do eye surgery on both my eyes so I could see better and they would not be so painful.  They are healing nicely, I don't even notice that I have stitches in my eyes.  I am what they call an “athletic” bulldog because I am a little bit leaner than most guys.  My foster mom is trying to put some weight on me put I think I must be running it all off. I am having a great time at my foster home but I would love to have a fur-ever home. Loud noises scare me but as soon as I see things are OK I’m fine. I would like to be the pack leader but I am so small no one takes me seriously.  I will need some basic training but I already know how to sit, stay and go to my bed. Are you looking for a handsome guy to call your very own??  I am the one for you.  I will be up to date on my vaccinations, neutered and on heartworm preventative.  For a$450 adoption fee you can have all the love that I have to give.

Bugsy

Bugsy

Hello bulldog lovers I’m Bugsy!!  As you can see, (wish I could) I am a dog in need!  My eyes have been this way so long that I can’t see much at all.  My previous owner dropped me off that the shelter, what a break for me.  He didn’t want to spend any money getting my eyes better, guess he just didn’t love me enough.  ??

Anyway my luck has changed now.  The shelter folks called Lone Star Bulldog Club’s rescue volunteers and they came right away and picked me up. The vet made me all better and I am doing great!  The only thing I really don’t like is them cleaning and putting medicine in my eyes. I am getting better at it every day, but I still get scared when people touch my eyes.  I just want to know you’re not going to hurt me!  ??

I love to eat and am putting on good weight, even though I am already a big boy!  I’m bigger than most bullies. I keep hearing them say, "He’s a man’s dog". But I know there are plenty of women out there for me to love!  When I am finished putting on all the weight I will probably weigh 80 pounds.  Now I know that sounds like a fat dog but I have a big frame, I can carry that much weight with grace!!

I love to play with my toys, go on walks and wrestle with my buddy Hank.  Hank is also up for adoption!  We are great friends.  As long as I have a friend to play with, I am always happy!??

If you have bulldog experience or at least “big” dog experience and you are looking to add another beautiful mug to your household, then I’m the one!  Please put your application in and tell them you are interested in the “big ole 2 year old chunk of slobbery kisses!”  I have all my shots, am on heartworm preventative and am neutered.  My adoption fee is $500, if you go by the pound you are only paying about $6.50 or so a pound. What a deal!!
