Ham

Ham

We’re having to light another candle tonight. This time, for foster boy Ham. He earned his angel wings today. Please keep his foster momma in your thoughts.

She writes: It is with a heavy heart that I let everyone know that Hambone crossed the Rainbow Bridge this afternoon. After being assessed, we realized that the damage to his back would not improve and in consultation with Dr. Larsen, the decision was made to allow him to peacefully cross the Rainbow Bridge. He will now run free without pain. I will miss his face. We were unsure of his age, but I think he was closer to 9 or 10 years old. When a toy came out, he immediately took on the demeanor of a young pup ready to chase it. Now he’s free.

Please welcome Ham to our rescue family! He writes: Hello senior Bulldog lovers. It’s me, Ham. Or Hammy. Or Hambone. Any of those will work. Yes, I look sad because I am sad. You see, I am no stranger to the world of rescue. According to the shelter’s paperwork, I was adopted from a rescue group by a family five years ago. They said they were going to be my forever family. “Forever” lasted until this week, when they dumped me at the shelter.

I swear I did nothing wrong, other than get older. But doesn’t everyone age? I am 9 years old now. One of my eyes runs and needs some attention, my toe nails are too long and need a good trim, and I certainly don’t smell like roses, but all of that can be fixed. I sure hope they can fix my broken heart, too. I really never thought I would be without a family in my senior years.

I still love to walk. I even ran out of the shelter doors to celebrate my freedom! Not that I didn’t like it there. The staff members were really good to me … but a senior Bulldog wants to be in his own home, on a couch, watching TV. I hope I can find my new family soon.

8/6/18 Update:  Ham came into rescue with a badly ulcerated eye. In fact, both eyes were a mess and he was pretty shut down because of his vision. He’s a big boy, but as sweet as he is big. You’re going to love him. And his eyes are starting to look amazing!

9/16/18 Update:  I’ve settled into my foster home. This place is awesome! There are lots of toys, yummy food and treats. I wasn’t fond of the bath, but I sure feel better now that I’m clean. Foster Ma says I smell great now!

A little about me: I’m completely potty trained I know where to do my business. Foster Ma says I’m the best on a leash. I stay right with her and I never pull. I like a nice game of fetch. Foster Ma says I have the kindest eyes and a sweet disposition, whatever that means. All I know is that I want to be loved and love my family. If I sound like the kind of Bulldog you’re looking for, then put in that application and maybe we will be matched together.

10/21/18 Update:  Hambone is a sweet boy. We attempted Bull-O-Ween, but all the activity proved to be too much for this guy. He left the festivities early. Hambone needs a home where he isn’t challenged by other dogs. He does fine with some dogs, but has had altercations with others. He follows his foster mom all around the house. He loves to play with toys. He’ll fetch, but won’t give the ball or toy back. I would recommend a calm home for this sweet senior.

11/27/18 Update:  It’s Hambone here. I’ve been so busy with the holidays I haven’t had a chance to let you know how I’ve been. I’ve learned to use a doggie door, but like it best when foster mom goes outside with me. I like to follow her everywhere. I’m a good boy and if foster mom says “Out,” I know to leave the room. I also understand bed, walk, sit, and of course treat. That’s my favorite, and I sit so fast when foster mom says treat. I was a good boy during Thanksgiving and got to play with some visiting family. I also helped foster mom decorate for Christmas. I can’t wait to see what I get in my stocking. What I really want is to find a forever family that will love the old bulldog. If that could be you, put in that application and maybe we will get matched.

12/9/18 Update:  Update from foster boy Ham: There was a lot of excitement this week. My foster sis was whisked off to see Dr. Larsen Wednesday and she didn’t come home until Saturday. I was able to score some extra treats and one-on-one time with foster mom. I love it when she tosses the toys for me to chase. Foster Mom says I’m a good boy and that there is a family out there for me. I hope Santa Paws lets them know where to find me.

12/20/18 Update:  Hambone is a sweet boy, but it’s taken some time for him to really trust his foster mom. Unlike other Bulldogs, he doesn’t rollover and ask for belly rubs, but today was a big day. He was laying on the floor and he let me sit next to him to rub his belly. When I stopped, he put his paw on my hand and gave me the “please more” look. How can anyone resist those sweet eyes? Hambone deserves the best furever family.

1/7/19 Update:   It has been a busy week. I have not one, but two new foster sisters. One is very bossy, but I just get out of her way when she growls at me. My allergies have been a bother with all of this crazy weather, but my foster ma keeps working to keep me from being too itchy. The best part about getting new foster sisters is they came with a lot of toys. I LOVE TOYS! It has been a lot of fun playing with them all. Hope everyone had a happy New Year! Hambone out!

1/29/19 Update:  Hambone had a busy week. He went out to see Dr. Larsen for some dental care. I was told he was quite grumpy and ready to go home when I picked him up. He’s a sweet boy, but all the activity of the clinic was a bit much for him. Since getting home, he has pulled out all his toys and settled back in. Hambone loves to play and needs a family that will enjoy playing with him.

2/27/19 Update:  Hambone is a sweet boy who follows me around every minute I’m at home. He so loves to be petted and like most Bulldogs, his favorite spot is a good scratch right above his tail. He’s an older guy with some arthritis. He needs a quiet home to spend his golden years.
