Billy The Kid (Now Cletus)

Billy The Kid (Now Cletus)

Today was the day Billy the Kid had dreamed about, the day he had waited for, the day I told him would happen. Today was Billy’s adoption day. It’s been along time coming for this heartworm survivor left behind in a apartment when his people moved out. Billy joined rescue very thin, too thin for heartworm treatment and too hungry to stop eating.  Billy started on a 30 day weight gain, then a 30 days rest period after treatment and on  August 17th Billy was done. It was over, the resting was over, the little contact with the rowdy crowd in the home was over, and Billy said let “the playing begin!”  Billy started today with a bath, a nail trim and a teeth brush and ended with his new family adopting him and that was exactly what Billy had in mind. A new family, a new life, a new city and a new name! Yep, Billy the Kid is now Cletus. Cletus the kid has headed south with Johnny and Carol to teach them a thing or 2 about loving a bulldog. Cletus the Kid never looked back, hoped in the back of the Mercedes and just like that he was gone, taking a piece of my heart with him.

My name is Billy The Kid, but I’m not a bad hombre at all. In fact, I am a sweet 5-year-old guy full of life. For some reason, my old family left me in the rent house when they moved out. A nice person found me and took me home with them. They got me all my shots and a checkup. But when they found out I had worms in my heart, they decided I needed someone more experienced to care for me. So I am now part of Lone Star Bulldog Club Rescue. I got a ride to this nice vet yesterday and they promised they would take good care of me and get me healthy. I’m well behaved and love to walk on a leash by your side. I want to come live in a home where they won’t move away and leave me! Can I come live with you?

8/10/17 Update:  Hey all you gun slinger friends, it’s me Billy the Kid reporting in from the life of a Heartworm survivor.  Yep, that’s me, I suffered thru having heartworms and then I endured the treatment to kill them.  And let me tell you, staying inside resting is not for this bulldog. I thought if I did a lot of barking in the crate I would get to get out and do some rough and tumble playing with my bulldog friends, but I was sure wrong about that! All I got was exiled to the laundry room, with the door shut, and no one to look at. Did not take me long to realize that not much happened in a laundry room except a lot of work, so, as hard as it was, I decided in a crate where I could see my friends was a lot better than staring at 4 walls folding towels. I have 10 more days of resting. Just 10 more days. I have a list of things I am going to do on Freedom Day, Day 11!! Freedom Day for me is August 18th and I am going sky diving and rocky mountain climbing , and hopefully with a family picked out just for me!
