Sweet Nala Girl was officially adopted April 28! Here she is with her new family, Jordan, Breanne and her big brother, Teddy. Teddy (previously known as Stumpy) was in foster care almost two years ago. The minute Nala’s potential new parents stepped out of their vehicle for their first meet-and-greet, Nala couldn’t wait to greet them! I said to Randy, “I have a good feeling about this!”
A few days later, we took Nala to meet Teddy in his surroundings and things went well. The next morning, we get the call from Jordan and Breanne. They said they were excited about her and wanted her! The first evening in her new home, her mom Breanne texted: “She let us put the medicine in her eyes without any problems. Afterward, she just looked at us like, ‘Hey, where is my animal cracker?'” I replied, “We created a monster” and Breanne replied back, “Never! She deserves all the finer things in life, especially since the first half wasn’t so great. We’ll make up for it on the second half!”
I cried happy tears for some time after that. As a foster parent, that is exactly what you want to hear! For a gal who just wants to be loved lots, she has found her perfect home! Nala is now known as Rosie. We can’t wait to see Rosie and Teddy at Bull-O-Ween later this year!
When Nala Girl’s family was preparing to move, they decided to have a garage sale to get rid of everything they no longer wanted. That included Nala Girl. She was near a sign that read, “Free Bulldog!” Thankfully, a fellow rescuer, Christy, just so happened to be shopping.
Christy was determined that Nala Girl was not going to be given away like the rest of the trash. She knew Nala’s life mattered and that she should be saved. It seemed as if the poor dog had given up on people and realized that being tied to a tree was really all that life had to offer. It also was apparent that she had a number of litters previously. Christy arrived at Nala Girl’s home this morning to load her up and head to the nearest place for a dog bath. Nala’s defeated expression changed when she realized she was finally leaving that yard where she stayed tied to a tree.
With flea spray, flea shampoo and Capstar, the fleas started falling off by the hundreds. Christy had thought Nala Girl was brindle ~ without the fleas, she’s actually more white. Volunteers Lundi and Eddie arrived to help with the clean-up and to let Nala Girl know that better days are ahead. They brought her a new harness and leash, and they told her she was beautiful. They reminded her that never again will she have to spend time on a chain.
The man who owned her said she was 9 years old, yet the woman said she was 4 or 5. Obviously, the family didn’t care enough to keep up with her birthdays. Nala Girl is safe today thanks to a stranger stopping by a garage sale. And special thanks to Lundi and Eddie for taking the time to help clean her up, pick her up and make a difference in her life. Her future is finally looking bright.
3/6/19 Update: Hello, Bulldog family! Alumna Paris here. So now that I am a foster helper, I have been assigned my first task and my momma is super happy with me! I am making foster girl Nala feel right at home. I have been letting her know how this finding a forever home works. In my big girl voice, I did let her know that she does need to find her own forever family, but she can borrow mine for just a little bit. So if you think you would love, love, love Nala like my family loves me, then please let fill out an application with Lone Star Bulldog Club Rescue and maybe you’ll get matched to her. She is really active, loves attention and a little bit skinny, OK, a lot skinny, but in no time, she will be a healthy size with Dad’s help! Thank you, Paris
3/20/19 Update: I’m happy to report that I am feeling a lot more comfortable in my surroundings and doing great. I have been in my foster home for a couple weeks now and have actually gained 4 lbs. I came in weighing 36 lbs, and I guess for a gal my size, it is not much, so I am starting to enjoy some really yummy meals and snacks that foster pops prepares! The two resident Bulldogs are liking that too.
Speaking of my roomies, I like the company of other dogs, but I just wished that they would play a little more with me. Foster Moms says I need a really active family, or at least some play buddies and room to play in would be nice.
Don’t get me wrong: I can chill and be a quiet gal when needed. I am told that
it’s great to finally see my fabulous personality. If you are one who prefers no couch sitters, that would be me… that’s not allowed here, so I don’t even attempt it. I am, however, a lap sitter. Just come down here on the floor with me and let me climb in your lap so you can tell me how much you love me! I am potty trained and also don’t mind staying in the crate. I’m not much of a barker – just when needed and I don’t snore. Guess my longer snout helps with that. I love chew bones, but I don’t like anything with a squeaker and I’m not a fan of loud sudden noises. Oh, and I like going for walks and am praised a lot on how well I am learning the leash!
