Coltrane hit the jackpot with his furever family! He will spend his days being spoiled by his parents and playing with his skin sister. He’d been in rescue for 418 days as we looked for his perfect match. Just goes to show, we’ll never give up on these babies! Happy life, sweet boy!
My name is Coltrane and I am as smooth as the melodic jazz tunes of the great John Coltrane.
I was living on a property with over 80 dogs and cats when the animal control people came and rescued us all. You cannot believe how thankful I was. Even though we were taken to a large shelter it was better than where we were. But today I left the shelter and joined rescue. Life has never been better!
I know there is something in my background besides an English Bulldog, but these rescue people knew I deserved to be saved even if I am not perfect. My nose is a bit too long as is my body. Oh, and I weigh 90 pounds. I have some nasty bumps and sores on my back and on my legs. I have a few cut places where another dog attacked me. My ears are infected and hurt. They have been infected so long, they have begun to calcify. I have some small tumors on my belly and a few broken teeth. I also tested positive for heart worms and will have to receive special treatment. Some people would call me a train wreck. But most people call me the sweetest big boy they have ever met.
I will be at the clinic for a while to heal and get everything fixed up. I tried to get in Dr. Larsen’s lap today, but I was a little too big. So she got down in the floor with me, loved on me and told me everything would be just fine.
4/28/22 Update: You’ve probably wondered where I’ve been. Well, I’ve been at the vet clinic, receiving heartworm treatment and getting my eyes fixed.
Now, I’m hanging at my foster pad, with less than a week of crate rest left!
I’m a big, goofy guy, weighing in at 102 lbs, but no worries because I’m also submissive and sweet.
I like belly rubs, giving kisses and relaxing on the couch.
My left eye will continue to need lubricant twice a day because my cherry eye cannot be fixed any better than it is. I always will have a little cherry, but Foster Momma says I’m still a beautiful boy.
5/2/22 Update: He’s officially off crate rest from heartworm treatment! We’re so excited for this sweet boy. He’s doing great in his foster home. He gets along great with all dogs and loves people. He’s just a big, goofy guy looking for a couch to relax on… maybe yours?
5/12/22 Update: Coltrane is such a goofy guy. In protest for not getting his favorite bed, he ran into the bathroom and got into the tub (for some reason). He sat there for a bit, contemplating his options, then he came and laid on the couch with us. LOL!
5/18/22 Update: Coltrane loves lying in the sun! He’d stay out there all day, if we let him. He’s a sweet, sensitive soul who loves his people, and he gets along great with other dogs.
5/25/22 Update: Coltrane was so excited about getting up on the Lovesac, he didn’t know what to do!
This guy is the whole package: sweet as can be, submissive, goofy, loves his people, gives lots of kisses, enjoys snuggling, does great with other dogs, potties well outside and even knows a few basic commands. Anyone would be lucky to have him!
7/15/22 Update: Coltrane fits perfectly in my lap…. LOL! In all seriousness, he’s a great foot warmer and doesn’t mind letting me warm my feet under him!
8/31/22 Update: Coltrane had a blast at the Bulldog Bonanza yesterday! He even had his own, professional belly rubbers. Now, he’s exhausted.
9/9/22 Update: Coltrane is the best boy. He’s so sweet and goofy. He potties outside, uses the dog door, gets along great with dogs of all sizes and loves all people, including kids. He patiently awaits his perfect match for a furever family!
9/23/22 Update: Coltrane is the best! I cannot emphasize this enough. He’s just a big lovebug! I was feeling under the weather this week, and he snuggled right up to me becoming the “big spoon.” He’s such a good boy.
10/26/22 Update: Coltrane had so much fun at our Pizza Paw-ty at Campisi’s on Sunday! People were asking if he’s a mixed breed because he’s bigger than most Bulldogs. Not to worry. He’s a 100%, purebred GOOD BOY!
11/14/22 Update: Coltrane is just the best boy! He’s becoming extra snuggly with us, which we love. He plans on spending this week resting up for all the Thanksgiving festivities he plans to participate in next week.
12/20/22 Update: Christmas came early for Coltrane this year. He got the biggest bed and he’s so happy. He tried it out in several rooms and several positions. He wants to thank everyone who donated to make all the foster dogs’ Christmas special this year and every year!
1/17/23 Update: A huge hello, commensurate with my length, girth and mass to all you Bullie fans.
Tis I, Coltrane, aka Big Boy, dictating this report from my extended stay BBnB. My foster peeps vacationed for a few days during the New Year holiday. I bunked out at this BBnB where I enjoyed Thanksgiving a few weeks before.
When the time arrived for my homecoming, my fur family at my foster peeps’ house had contracted kennel cough. The two-week incubation period meant that I renewed my lease at this BBnB. OK by me! The culinary staff here knows how to cook, so I strained my leash to stay at this gourmet venue.
They call me “Big Boy” at 103 lbs. But they compare me to their “Little One” at 39 lbs. i call her “Little Runt.” If she keeps smelling my butt without permission, she might become a three-bite appetizer, just sayin…
We attractive gentlemen demur from flaunting our charms. Rather, we prefer to showcase our qualities with gentility, like when I’m in the kitchen attending to dinner preparation. If Foster Substitute Dad did not cook so well, I mighta gone postal. Rather, dinner here consists of sumptuous warmed meals, so patiently I wait expectantly.
Did I tell you about Bulldog Happy Hour? My regular foster dad says that his BBnB chef may have furever ruined me for eating at their home. Lasagna, pulled pork, chicken salad, egg salad, served with various fresh fruits. My dreams swarm with food fantasies. One day, I dined on cream of celery soup blended with smashed potatoes and accented with turkey slices. Umm, umm, good.
I have struck up a bromance with the man at this BBnB. His usual retinue consists of only ladies. Little Runt became so jealous that she peed the bed I occupied in his office. Jeepers, what can a boy do to get along?
The peeps here rave about me, claiming that my manners and gentlemanly nature rank me as a prime adoption candidate. I behave well, obey commands, never foul the house, and crave affection. When lonely, I whimper so that you will attend to me.
I return to my regular foster home soon and will review outstanding approved apps. Happy tails until we meet soon. Love, Coltrane
1/24/23 Update: This week, he celebrated his year anniversary in foster care. He’s a great dog, who is sweet and happy. As a reminder, he was seized along with 86 other animals in January 2022. Here is the link to that story: kxii.com/2022/01/11/87-animals-seized-hunt-county-property
2/7/23 Update: At the center of all the action, foster boy Coltrane is a true chick magnet.
3/3/23 Update: Foster boy Coltrane entered our program more than a year ago. Did he have a crappy past? You bet. Has he put that all behind him? YOU BET.
As you can see, Coltrane is a big dude. Is that why he’s not finding his perfect match? Maybe so. But his heart is just as big as his bod. And he deserves a happily ever after.
Many thanks to our sweet photographer friend Sheila for giving our hunk an opportunity to shine in these great pics.
