6/7/26 INTRODUCTION ~ Please welcome Hemingway to our rescue family.
From stray… to shelter… to rescue.
When Hemingway first arrived, it was clear that life had not been kind to him. Years of neglect have left their mark on his body.
His skin is inflamed, his coat is sparse and he has a long road of medical care ahead of him, but despite everything he’s endured, Hemingway’s spirit remains beautifully intact!
This sweet Bulldog doesn’t seem to be dwelling on the past. And he isn’t asking for much. No complaints. No apparent resentment. All Hemingway wants is love.
He leans into every gentle touch. He looks up with hopeful eyes, and soaks up every bit of kindness offered to him.
After who knows how long without proper care, he’s finally receiving what every dog deserves: medical treatment, nutritious food, a safe place to rest and people who are committed to helping him heal.
His journey will not be quick. His medical needs are significant, but he is finally surrounded by people who won’t give up on him.
Every day we’ll be working to help Hemingway feel better, grow stronger and experience the life he should have had all along.

7/18/26 UPDATE ~ From the foster momma: Back in early June, Hemingway arrived in rescue tired, neglected and in desperate need of help. His body told the story of months without the care every dog deserves, but his heart? It never stopped believing in people.
Fast forward just a short time, and the transformation has been incredible.
With loving foster care, nutritious meals, veterinary treatment, medication and plenty of patience, Hemingway is already feeling so much better. His eyes are brighter, his body is growing stronger, and his goofy personality is shining through a little more each day. He’s discovering that life is all about belly rubs, cozy naps, tasty treats and people who adore him. His love for cheese is immeasurable and has earned him the perfect new nickname: “Cheese Tax.” 🧀
Hemingway reminds us that healing doesn’t happen overnight, but amazing things can happen when a dog is surrounded by love and given a chance. Every meal, every vet visit, every gentle word and every cuddle has helped him take another step toward the happy, healthy life he deserves.

10/25/26 UPDATE ~ From the foster momma: Look at Hemingway… although around his foster home, he is called Mr. Handsome and Cheese Tax! And honestly, both names are well deserved.
This sweet Bulldog is ready to find his next family, and we’re hoping there’s someone out there with a little extra patience, a whole lot of love and a soft spot for a boy who needs the world to slow down just a bit.
Hemingway’s days have a pretty predictable routine, and he likes it that way! His mornings start with scrambled eggs and cheese, because naturally, the Cheese Tax must be paid. After breakfast, you’ll usually find him snuggled into the comfort of his bed inside his kennel. That’s his safe place, and he’s not quite ready to venture too far from it just yet.
But there’s another side to this handsome guy! If you carry him to the couch, he’s happy to settle in, soak up all the pets you can give and watch some college volleyball with his people. Apparently, he’s a big fan of comfort, companionship and a good match!
Hemingway is scared of just about everything new, so he’ll need a calm, patient family willing to meet him where he is, let him set the pace and gently help him build confidence. He isn’t looking for a family to rush him into being brave. He needs a family who understands that feeling safe comes first and that every little step forward deserves to be celebrated.
His physical condition continues to improve, too! He’s especially proud of the hair growing back on his chest, and we couldn’t be happier to see his progress. He does have some ongoing medical needs, including eye drops for life and a daily immune-suppressant medication, so his family must be committed to keeping up with his care.
Through it all, Hemingway is a happy boy who soaks up every single bit of love he can get. He may not be ready to explore the whole world just yet, but he’s learning that love can be gentle, people can be trusted and life can feel pretty wonderful when you have a soft bed and someone who cares.
His perfect family may need to carry him to the couch for a while, celebrate his little victories, keep the cheese coming and remind him every day that he’s safe. In return, they’ll get the privilege of watching this special boy continue to blossom.
Hemingway is ready to be adopted. He just needs someone who will love him exactly as he is today while giving him the time and support to become all he can be.
If you have a calm home, a patient heart and room on your couch for a very handsome volleyball fan, you may be a great match for Hemingway! And please remember… the Cheese Tax is non-negotiable.
