Lucky (now Mad Max)

Lucky (now Mad Max)

What a great day for two special Bulldogs in rescue! Lucky and Marilyn Mini are headed to live with their new family in Colorado.

Foster Mom has never cried at an adoption before, but letting Marilyn Mini go, brought a few tears because she was such an amazing Bulldog!

The dogs’ new family has a big heart for rescue, as they have fostered and been involved in various rescues over the years. They also have Bulldog experience. When it came time to add to their family, they decided not just one, but two Bulldogs in need would join their home.

These two have four new fur siblings and a human big sister who volunteers at the local shelter back home. Their big sister is already in love with both of them!

Marilyn Mini will be known as Jersey Girl and Lucky is now Mad Max. These two will be living their best lives, wanting for nothing but more belly rubs! Everyone traveled well, and they made it to their new home safely.

Bulldog friends, I think it is important that you know everything about me.  My name is Lucky and I just turned a year old. I was born with a cleft palate which is a birth defect. For some reason, there is a split in the roof of my mouth. It should have been closed before I was born. Often food goes in my mouth and out my nose.

Because this is a birth defect most dogs born with this have no value and are never given a chance.  That is what happened to me. Someone put me out on the side of the road in the snow. I just sat there looking around wondering how long it would take before I froze to death. But then came Tim.

Tim was going to work and he saw me, picked me up, and named me Lucky.  Tim became my hero! Tim would turn me over and brush out the cleft. He would hand feed me. And Tim took me to have my cleft repaired. The surgery went great. But, someone should have told me dragging a stick around could undo all that had just been done, and sure enough I ripped out the repair. After all I was just a puppy and puppies drag everything around.

A week or so ago Tim and I sat down to talk about my future. Tim knew that I needed another surgery and he was still paying on the last one!  Tim loved me. He told me I needed a lot more than he could give and my health was a priority. He told me I was a perfect little buddy and I would make someone so happy.

Today we said our good-byes. We both cried. But then I remembered I was going to have surgery and that everything was going to be all right!  I can’t wait!

10/1/22 Update:  I’ve settled into my foster home over the last few weeks. I am still recovering from cleft palate surgery, so no hard food or things for me!

Foster Mom bought me some new toys – a hamburger and a football! My favorite is the football and I carry it everywhere. I hear a lot of, “No not the wet football!”

I would love a family who will hang with me on the couch. I’d love one who will play and snuggle with me, too. I love kids and other dogs!

Come meet me today, Oct. 1, at our Bulldog Bonanza at The Shacks at Austin Ranch.

10/3/22 Update:  I had a great time at my first Bulldog Bonanza yesterday! I met so many people and they all thought I was super cute.

I hid a few times under the Bulldog stuff table because I was getting a little overwhelmed. I also inquired at the info table if my furever family checked in, by chance. I’m still looking, so until then, I will just hang onto my football and relax.

11/7/22 Update:  The past month, I have been busy!

First,  I had to go see the eye doctor because my eye looked funny. Dr. Larsen said “You need to see a specialist!”

Foster Momma called for an appointment and there were none for at least a month. She explained what my eye looked like and sent pics and you know what? They fit me in the next day!

A couple of drops in my eyes, some paper thing and a lot of shiny light and the doctor said I had a hole in my eye and my pupil was going through the hole!

He gave me some drops to take and after four weeks he would recheck it. I went last week for my recheck and the hole is healed, my eye looks a little better and I have a follow-up appointment in eight months.  Oh, and Mr Pumpkin had to go with me to my appointment.

Second thing is, I also went to see Dr. Lay for a follow-up on my cleft palate  surgery. We’ll, I still have a small hole

and he is hoping it will heal soon.

Other than that, I am doing great and being a good boy. I love to play and  I get along with all the other pups in the house.  And I love to snuggle.

I may have some good news brewing. I am still working my magic, so I will let you all know soon.
