Maizy
I left for Brazoria, Texas, with my new parents and fur brother, Saint. I loved all of them immediately and am so excited to have a big yard with my own doggie door. We also get to take walks by the river!
My foster family loved my new parents so much, they invited all of us back anytime! I barely even said goodbye as I got in the car. Thanks for all your positive vibes! I’m living my best life!
Hi Everyone!
I’m back at the farm this week after spending a week in my new “forever.” Well, forever turned out to be until today. It just wasn’t a fit for me. I want to potty outside, not on plastic grass in a city apartment. I thought I’d give it a try, being a city girl, but I’m really just a house dog. So I came back! I didn’t do anything wrong this week. I just don’t want to be fancy.
Anywho, I’m sorry I missed the pizza party. I didn’t get back to my foster mom and dad until after 3 and I’ve been sleeping lots since then. Here’s a great picture of me so you remember how cute I am.
Today was a really sad day for my family, and for my friend Maizy and me.
My name is Tonka and I am 5 years old. I am wearing a blue harness and my friend is wearing pink. She is 3.
All the way to rescue, our mom cried. She was not sure she was going to get of the car so we could say our goodbyes. My mom has a scrapbook of me from the day I was born until they placed me in her arms when I was 8 weeks old. It was love at first sight.
A year or so ago, Maizy joined our family and we have been a close family: my mom, my dad, my friend Maizy and me. And then guess what happened? A real skin sister moved home with twins and wow, we didn’t see that coming.
The babies, the toys, the constant babies in motion… Really, we just felt scared. They were so little, and I am so big. They would get close ~ too close for me. They would ride their toys up and down the hall and I was like, “Hello, do you see me?”
And sometimes, Maizy would have an accident in the house and one of those twins would slip and fall. It was just a constant thing: two babies in motion and Maizy and I moving out of the way.
We loved the older kids who came to visit because they would play with us. We played chase and tug-o-war and we played “follow me.”
But it was just those twins. When the twins moved in, everything changed for Maizy and me. Maizy is scared of the dark and she has to sleep with a light on, or she won’t sleep. I have a special stuffed animal that is just for me.
All that being said, we are not a bonded pair. We can be adopted together or we can go our separate ways. We can sleep together, but really, we can sleep alone too.
In a perfect world, we would still be with mom and dad, but life happens and change happens. Now, we will start the next chapter of our lives.
3/2/21 Update: Reporting in on Ms. Maizy. What a sweet girl! Maizy has settled right in and proven me wrong when I stated “no dog is afraid of the dark” after reading her info. (Insert eye roll).
Well, turns out, she does prefer to sleep where there’s a bit of light. We’ve accommodated her and moved a bed by the light in hallway. She sleeps there. Maizy is great in a crate. Quiet and compliant. Cats are ok. Dogs are ok. Chickens are ok. She’s decided she loves to watch the pigs, Rosie and Bert. So hard for us to believe that this girl was given up because she was any sort of burden. She’s had two pee accidents in the house (overnight) but also has a mild UTI so not unexpected.
She was very scared in our thunderstorms and lightening a couple of nights ago, so we’ll need to help her with those nights and there aren’t too many of those. I know this girl will find a forger home quickly. She’s a gem.
3/8/21 Update: I’m doing great and Foster Mom says I’m the best Bulldog.
I’ve decided I do like to sleep where there’s light, so I have my own special spot at night. I also love to rough house a little and everyone says it’s so cute.
I’m OK being an independent lady. I’ve had no accidents in the house, which I’m told is the best way!
I really enjoy the barn here. I love to watch the barn friends move about. I don’t try to chase or taste any of them. I’m just a good citizen.
Foster Dad says he just can’t understand why I had to find a new home, but I’m excited to meet my forever family. Foster Mom says I’ll get scooped up quick.
4/5/21 Update: I’m just hoppin’ around over here waiting for a bath.
I thought I’d let you know that I have a great prospect for a new home. The family is coming to visit in two weeks from South Texas. I’m so excited!
I’ll have a big yard and a fur brother who is also a Bulldog. Both of my humans work from home and will spend lots of time with us and guess what? My possible fur brother is also afraid of the dark so we’ll help each other sleep well, for sure.
