Mayweather

Mayweather was certain he had done nothing wrong. After all, he had been in a home for nine years.

But there is an upcoming move. His family has to leave Texas due to a family emergency in another state. All Mayweather knew was that he was not making the move.

The surrender was sad for everyone. Mayweather looked lost when his family left him. He knew he was in a strange place. He cried and tried to open the crate door.

We consoled each other by having some snacks, but he was clearly not happy with this situation.

After a few hours of pacing and looking for something familiar, Mayweather just went to the crate and laid down.

Mayweather will be looking for a retirement home in the near future. At 9 years old, he can still move fast and has no trouble getting where he is going. He has a lot to offer anyone who loves seniors. Mayweather hopes there is a family out there who knows seniors have value and that they make the best family members. He is counting on it.

9/12/23 Update:   Mayweather is the sweetest, easy-going boy.

Age is just a number for this guy because he certainly doesn’t look or act 9 years old.

He does great during car rides, he’s kennel-trained, leash-trained and he knows when it’s time to eat his food.

He trots outside when I say, “Let’s go potty.” He will outside use potty pads inside, if needed.

He loves his chew bones and gets along with the other house dogs. We haven’t had an opportunity to see if he would be the same with cats.

He’ll be wrapped up with his meds in just a few days. Stay tuned for more updates on this beautiful boy and his journey to find his next family.

9/27/23 Update:  Look at that face! Mayweather is a beautiful senior Bulldog. But you would never know his age – he’s in great shape! He  likes to go on little walks, is crate- and potty-trained and he’s ready to meet his next family. This sweet boy joined our foster family with a super-alpha little terrier and another Bulldog and has adjusted very well. Who’s ready for Mayweather?

11/13/23 Update:  He’s doing well ~ a great dog all around! While Mayweather is house trained, he is a senior so accidents overnight will/can happen. I can’t say my three female Bulldogs are thrilled with him, but everyone is peacefully coexisting for the most part.

12/19/23 Update:  I’m enjoying my days in my foster home with my three Bulldog sisters!

While my stiff joints may reflect my age of 9, I still love to go for walks and when the weather is nice, I can do a few laps around my block. My foster mom gives me some low-dose pain meds to manage my joints. At times, I get so excited when I see the leash, I start trying to jump up and down.

I love to have my temples rubbed, and my belly as well, now that I have learned to trust my foster family. Don’t tell my foster mom, but my foster dad and I have really bonded – it’s just a guy thing!

I can be protective of food and toys so I’d be better suited with a home without kids. That way I can have 100% of the family’s love and affection, which I crave.

I don’t like going into bathtubs to be cleaned, but I can manage OK in the shower with a handheld shower head. My ears are still a bit of a mess and I run away when my foster mom tries to put medicine in them. Sometimes she wins and sometimes she doesn’t. I appreciate her efforts to care for me.

Also, when I drink water, I drink a ton and the water can pool under my chin in my folds. At times, the skin does become raw, but my foster mom has been drying my fold each time I drink and it’s helping a lot. I also let her clean my folds and butt, as necessary. It’s a Bulldog thing.

My foster mom and dad always tell me I have a good heart. They tell me how much they love me and that I am safe. That makes me feel special.
