Adopt a Bulldog

Roger Wilco

7/4/26 INTRODUCTION ~ Please welcome Roger Wilco to our rescue family. From volunteer Dianne: When the shelter reached out about this Bulldog, their message was hard to ignore: “This poor Bulldog can leave today because he is a medical case. There is not one place on him that isn’t infected.”

I’m always hesitant to pull a Bulldog before the stray hold has ended because there’s always a chance an owner will come forward, and the dog would have to be returned to the shelter. But there was something about this boy. The thought of him spending the entire Fourth of July weekend in that condition just wasn’t right. If any Bulldog deserved a little Independence Day freedom, it was him.

A heartfelt thank you to volunteers Patti and Terry, who dropped everything on Friday to pick him up and take him straight to the veterinarian.

Roger Wilco arrived with severe infections in both ears, both eyes and across his skin. He received a steroid injection, medications for his ears, eyes and skin, and, of course, the ever-fashionable cone of shame.

Despite feeling miserable, everyone who has met Roger says the same thing: he is one of the sweetest Bulldogs they’ve ever encountered. Even the veterinarian remarked that while he may be a “train wreck” today, with time and proper care he’s going to look and feel like a completely different dog.

Welcome to rescue, Roger Wilco. You’re finally safe… and finally free.

This Independence Day, Roger Wilco found his freedom. But there are more Bulldogs waiting for theirs.

Every time we say “yes” to a Bulldog like Roger Wilco, it’s because a foster family has opened their home and made room. Without foster homes in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, we simply can’t rescue the dogs who need us most.

If you’ve ever thought about fostering, NOW is the time. We provide the medical care, guidance and support, while you provide a safe place for a Bulldog to heal. Together, we can give more Bulldogs the freedom to leave the shelter behind and begin their journey to a better life. Message us to learn more and share with all your DFW dog friends, please. ♥

8/30/26 UPDATE ~ From foster boy Roger Wilco: It’s the moment the Bulldog world has been waiting for. Me, the one and only, massively adorable, Roger Wilco, is ready to meet my next family. I’ve had the final vet check, packed my toys and turned in my paw-worthy cell phone. Watch out world… greatness is on the horizon.

Hugs and slobbers,
Roger Wilco (yes, the one and only)

9/12/26 UPDATE ~ From foster boy Roger Wilco: Hi, it’s me, the always adorable Roger Wilco!

I had to wait until one of my foster parents could stop laughing long enough to take my dictation. Apparently, I’m quite the character around here.

I have this little routine I like to follow: I pick out a few of my favorite toys from the toy box, carefully get them positioned just right, and then… fall asleep right in the middle of everything.

Just last night, my parents were watching TV and suddenly realized they hadn’t seen me for a while. They called my name, wondering where I had trotted off to. And poof! Up popped my head from inside the toy box. I was just in there doing a little research and perusing my options. A guy needs to know what toys are available, right?

I also have two cats to hang out with. When we happen to cross paths during our wanderings around the house, we exchange a friendly little “Yo!” as we pass.

And then there are the three other dogs who live here in Rogerland. We all get along great, so I’d say life here is pretty darn good!

I’m settling in, making friends, supervising the toy inventory and generally being my adorable self.

Life in Rogerland suits me just fine.

10/1/26 UPDATE ~ From foster boy Roger Wilco: Morning, Roger (the Dodger) here!

Sorry for the late update, but my foster mom was out for a couple of days. That didn’t stop me from staying busy around the house, though! My foster dad even took a picture of me while we were working on something in the attic. Unfortunately, I didn’t quite meet the height requirements, so I took up my post at the bottom of the stairs instead. Nobody got past me while Roger Wilco was on security duty!

My foster parents continue to be very entertained by me. I’m just so attentive. And I’m quiet as a mouse, too. My foster mom will walk into another room, turn around and—POOF!—there I am. I like to keep tabs on my people.

I’m also having a great time hanging out with my peeps in the backyard. My foster parents say I’m 100% perfect in every way, and honestly, I’m not going to argue with them.

Every night, I go into my “apartment” when everyone heads to bed, and I don’t make a peep until my foster dad gets up in the morning. Then I lead everyone outside for our morning “break,” followed by breakfast. I’m good with everyone in the house, whether they have two legs or four. I even have two cats, and I enjoy hanging out with them, too.

My foster parents are seasoned animal love buckets, so they know a good one when they see one. They think I’m pretty darn adorable. And I think they’re pretty great, too.

Now if we could just get some cooler weather, I’d be one happy Bulldog. I know my foster family would be, too!

Hugs, loves and slobbery kisses,

Roger Wilco, Esquire

10/14/26 UPDATE ~ From foster boy Roger Wilco: I’m checking in with the latest report on my wild and crazy life. I’m ridiculously handsome, charming, and conveniently packaged in a smaller body. You’re welcome.

My foster peeps describe me as adorable, loving, calming, protective, and the undisputed king of toy storage. I wouldn’t exactly call it hiding because, well, the toys are pretty easy to find. Sometimes I try to guard my treasures, but I usually end up falling asleep on the job. Besides, I’m perfectly happy sharing my toys with my siblings. What can I say? I’m a generous little guy.

My foster parents think I’m funny, sweet and cuddly. Apparently, even the simple act of watching me walk provides endless entertainment. I will admit that I have some rather impressive paws for a handsome gentleman of my stature. Maybe I’m just a big man trapped in a smaller body!

Since there’s so much to love about me, let’s review my qualifications in case you haven’t yet had the pleasure of meeting the one and only Roger Wilco.

My resume of awesomeness:

Champion sleeper: I sleep in my kennel for about nine hours a night. And when Foster Dad wakes up, I’m perfectly content to hang out in my kennel a little longer, catching up on my reading. OK, fine, there are no actual magazines involved, but a guy can dream.

Excellent roommate: I have three canine siblings, including two large dogs and another Bulldog, and I think they’re loads of fun. Boys, girls, big dogs, Bulldogs … I’m an equal-opportunity friend.

Feline-friendly: Two cats share my home, too. I’m definitely curious about them, but we get along remarkably well.

A gentleman with good habits: I take care of my business outside without any fuss. My foster parents appreciate a man who knows what he’s doing.

Professional snuggler: When I’m not playing with toys or enjoying the great outdoors, I’m right beside my people. Why would I want to be anywhere else?

My foster parents say I’m the most user-friendly, adorable Bulldog they’ve ever had. And honestly, who am I to argue with such excellent taste?

They adore me, and I’m pretty sure you will, too. I mean, just look at me! Surely there isn’t a single thing about this handsome little package that could be considered a drawback. I’ll wait while you try to think of one.

Thanks for stopping by for my update. Stay cool, friends!

And speaking of cool, you know what would be even cooler? Joining my rescue family for Lone Star Bulldog Club Rescue’s 20th annual 2026 Bull-O-Ween this Saturday, October 17, from 4–8 p.m. at Ten10 Events in Arlington! It’s our biggest bash of the year and a fundraiser that helps pay the veterinary bills for Bulldogs just like me. Come celebrate, support the rescue and help make a difference for my fellow four-legged friends!

Love,
Roger Wilco
