Wilma Lee (aka Lucy)

10/26/26 INTRODUCTION~ Three years ago, Wilma Lee found her family. Today, she’s facing an unexpected new beginning, and we’re hoping her next chapter will lead her right back to “forever.”

Wilma Lee (aka Lucy) and Sam Hunt (aka Ricky) were adopted together three years ago and moved from the DFW area to San Antonio to begin their happily-ever-after.

Sadly, their dad has been diagnosed with cancer and will be moving to Florida to undergo chemotherapy. With his focus needing to be on his health and treatment, he made the incredibly difficult decision to return Lucy and Ricky to rescue, knowing it was in their best interest.

This wasn’t a goodbye made for lack of love. It was a heartbreaking choice made because their dad loves them and wants what’s best for them, even when life has taken a turn no one could have anticipated.

Now, Lucy and Ricky are back with a familiar face! Their foster mom welcomed them home, and the reunion came with a birthday celebration for Ricky. This foster family treats every dog who graces their home like one of their own, even adding former foster dogs’ birthdays to the family calendar so no special day goes uncelebrated.

And while Ricky was busy celebrating, Lucy was still “recovering” from her road trip. According to their foster mom, the drive home from San Antonio was so heavily scented with Ricky’s signature toots that she felt like she was being saged by a fart! Lucy was clearly not impressed, turning her back on her brother for much of the ride. Can you blame her?

Once they arrived home, Ricky happily soaked up all the birthday attention, hugs and kisses. And luckily, Lucy quickly forgave the birthday boy for his road trip fumigation.

The dynamic duo are now navigating this unexpected change together. These two have already had to leave behind a home and the people they love. Now they need a new family willing to open their hearts to both of them.

Please keep their dad in your thoughts as he begins this difficult chapter, and send some love to Lucy and Ricky as they begin theirs. We’re wishing their dad strength and healing, and we’ll do everything we can to help these two find a safe, loving place to land.

Could you be the next chapter in Lucy and Ricky’s story? If you’re ready to welcome this pair into your family, please submit an adoption application. You may be their perfect match! They deserve a family who will love them through life’s unexpected turns, even if that means rolling down every window on the occasional car ride!

AWESOME ADOPTION ALERT! Sam Hunt and Wilma Lee have been adopted!  They are now known as Ricky and Lucy.

It is very befitting for these lovable babes. Ricky and Lucy will be living their best lives in the beautiful city of San Antonio.

Their forever Dad “Art” has been a long-time follower and supporter of our rescue.

After the passing of his own babe Walter in July, Art was ready to grow his family by two.  I know Ricky and Lucy will receive all the love, attention, and security of a loving family they so deserve.

Dad “Art” enjoys coming to our events so don’t be surprised if we see the dynamic duo again—Ricky & Lucy.

INTRODUCTION ~ Bulldog family, when I was picked up by animal control it was was ok. My feet were tired of walking and getting a ride seemed fabulous to me.

When I got to the shelter it was a different thing. I heard all the dog there snickering and pointing at me whispering “Look at that ole lady she will never leave here.” They kept whispering she will never find a family that would want her. I hung my head and wondered if they were right. I have lost the bounce in my step and when I walk, I walk slowly. But I do get where I need to go.

I sat at the shelter waiting for my family to find me. And I waited a long time. I started to believe the other dogs there—that no one wanted a senior lady. It was a sad reality for me. And then just like magic my new shelter friends came and said I had someone in the lobby waiting to pick me up! I sprinted down the hall. I laughed out loud when I passed the other dogs that had been so mean to me. I jumped into the arms of my new rescue friend Ty that was waiting in the lobby. Ty said he loved me, and no bulldog got left in this rescue.

Ty named me Wilma. He said he loved that name and he loved me!
