Harper

Harper

It is with much sadness Harper left for the Rainbow Bridge during the night. Harper joined rescue and lived with us for 1 year without 1 application for her. So, after 1 year she made herself at home and became a part of my family. Harper picked and chose her fur friends. Never once did I open the front door without asking “Where is Harper!” Because she could shoot out like a cannon from the strangest places and the fight would be on. Harper will be missed, her larger than life personality, her ability to redirect a bulldog walking through the room with her stare. Harper left during the night unannounced taking a piece of my heart with her.

It was the day Harper had waited for most of her life. Today, Harper has been adopted and has a family. One year ago today, Harper joined rescue. She has lived with me and waited for someone to want to adopt her. I think Harper knew she already had a family… she made herself right at home. She observed from her recliner, watched many Bulldogs come and go, and settled herself into the routine of the house. Harper has a home now, and I could not be happier.

Please welcome Harper to the Lone Star Bulldog Club Rescue family.

Harper is 5 years old and was found wandering through a neighborhood by Wendy, a foster parent for Lone Star Dog Ranch. Wendy went door-to-door with Harper, looking to reunite her with her family. A neighbor directed Wendy to a home where Bulldogs were said to live. When Wendy got there, the homeowner said he didn’t want the dog back. He said he had bred her once and she had had four babies via c-section. He then bred her again and she free-whelped (ugh!) 8 babies. He said was done breeding “this one” because he and his friend had bought 5 females at an auction. Wendy stood and listened, stunned, as he described every detail about “making money on selling Bulldog puppies.”

Well, sir… We feel “this one” deserves a much better life ~ one that will be filled with love and compassion, instead of greed and abandonment. Harper, there’s no looking back now. We’ve got this!

4/20/16 Update:  Hi friends!! I’m harper. I am just addicted to LOVE. As soon as I see you walking toward me, my wrinkly booty can’t help but start wagging as fast as I can possibly make it wag. I want nothing but to get all of your love. I am very playful and love to hop around, but most importantly, I LOVE to snuggle next to my human family!

5/15/16 Update:  She may be “the queen of mean” when it comes to other dogs, but Harper has won me over. Harper and I spend a lot time outside in the garden and she is the best helper. Harper stays right beside me and never wanders far. She walks with a odd gait because her legs are bowed, but Harper is a great, funny Bulldog. She will work well with any fur-free family that does not crate because she is a barker, if crated. She is 100 percent potty trained.

5/22/16 Update:  The Queen of Mean keeps that title again this week.  Harper is not tolerant of anything with fur. At around 40lbs and physically unfit due to a caged life,  Harper seeks out a good fight.  But oh what a fun girl !!! Harper loves, loves, loves people. And Harper loves car rides, and she loves any attention. Harper’s perfect family will love her to death !!! I love Harper myself.

6/13/16 Update:  Hey folks it’s me Harper the Bulldog !! And I am one fine bulldog!  I was bought at a Puppy Mill Auction by a man that used me to continue breeding me, taking my babies away and selling them, then breeding me again! Vicious cycle.  My body was worn out, my legs were tired, and I was miserable!  One day I found a loose board in the fence and off I ran!  That was what I call my Freedom Run!!  Run Harper Run!! I found a home that looked like where I wanted to live so I just sat down on the porch waiting for that family to find me. They found me, and of all things took me door to door looking for the place I used to live. And they found the place I used to live.  All I could think of was I was going back to the same abuse. But guess what?  They didn’t want me any longer,  said I was “all used up and was glad when I ran away!” Me and my new friend trotted all the way home and I was thrilled! But, my new friend had cats and oh do I love a good cat chasing game! Run fast cat, run fast! Then the next day the most amazing thing happened,  I joined rescue!! Rescue has changed my life!! First thing happened was the baby making business was closed forever, I got to eat all I wanted, I took a bath inside, and I have a bed!! All I need now is a great family with no other things with fur as I still like to play the game Run, run fast as you can cause I like to chase things with fur!  I walk a little odd from years of birthing babies that took a toll on my legs, but I can still run fast as the wind, especially if I am running to my new family. My name is Harper and I love you!

6/27/16 Update:  Harper must think I am her forever home. Harper has her own bedroom and she recently managed to pull all of the things off the hangers in the closet and make herself a nest. Harper is funny ~ she can make you laugh out loud when she starts to howl like a beagle. She’s just desperate for someone to want her.

7/24/16 Update:  Harper LOVES people and kids. Other things with fur? Not so much. Harper walks a little odd (kind of like a waddling duck), but Harper can move like a gazelle if needed. Harper’s perfect family will just have her and nothing else with fur.

8/7/16 Update:  Walks like a crab and as cute as they come is Harper! Out there somewhere is Harper’s family. Harper’s family needs to be fur-free, and stay that way. Harper loves all people. especially all kids of any size. She’s really zero trouble, once you resolve yourself to the fact Harper hates other fur.

10/2/16 Update:  In Harper’s world, she is still the queen of everything. Harper is a fan of fun and people, but not a fan of other things with fur. Harper dances with delight when she sees food, a leash and someone to play with her!

10/16/16 Update:  We are still looking high and low for a family for Harper. I bought her a Bull-O-Ween costume and she will be coming as a princess! A princess seems very fitting.

12/12/16 Update:  From her foster momma: Is it going to be me and Harper forever? Is there not a family out there for this 40 lbs of Harper? Santa Claus, please help us find a home where she can be the only dog!

1/15/17 Update:  Life is great in Harper’s world. As far as Harper is concerned, she is home. Harper has been with me since April. She’s never been on a meet-and-greet and never had a family interested in meeting her. She’s not a fan of other dogs, but she dances with delight when she sees me. For a puppy mill mama, Harper has forgotten the life she once lived. Harper lives for the next treat to be handed out.
