Holly Day

Holly Day

We’re sad to share that foster girl Holly Day was helped across the Rainbow Bridge today. Medical tests revealed she had a protein-losing disease and there was no treatment plan. Dr Larsen said she was quickly going downhill and advised the most humane thing to do was to let her go.

Please share your words of love with Holly Day’s foster momma, who writes: I am heartbroken for this little girl. She was so damn sweet and we wanted so much for her stomach issues to be “fixable.” At least the scope results gave us some answers.

I rest better knowing that she knew how much we loved her while she was here and, more importantly, we are grateful for the time we got with her. Rest easy,  Holly Day.

On Saturday, five of my friends left me behind at the ranch.

I was lollygagging around the yard when all my friends were leaving, and then I was running like the wind. It would have been in my best interest to have slowed down so I could hop in the SUVs. But all I wanted to do was run and roll. It was amazing to finally feel grass for the first time under my feet, after all.

So, I got left behind… but “behind” was great too! I finally surrendered to the bosses at the ranch. They picked me up, carried me inside and I had a bath. It was the best day of my life! I had a warm bath and a great scrubbing.

I stayed with Ruby Wrinkles because she was left behind too. She just wanted to dig a hole and disappear. Staying behind meant five of our friends from the mill were already sitting in Dr. Larsen’s lap and I believe lap sitting is the place for me.

Yesterday, Ruby Wrinkles and I left the

ranch and joined our friends at Bright Star. It was a grand reunion! They were jumping and dancing around when they saw us. They’ve been learning to walk on leashes… well, sort of. They have leashes, but it looked like to me there was still a lot of carrying. But, hey someone carrying us? That’s a dream come true.

9/16/22 Update:  She’s very shy and sweet. With mild to moderate tartar on her teeth, she’s slightly underweight and needs to gain a little weight. Her knees probate out a little, so she’s a little wobbly with her longer body. She has an ear infection and a small hernia. Her spay, teeth and hernia repairs are scheduled on 9/20.

11/14/22 Update:  Holly Day is ready for the holidays! She’s also ready to meet her furever family. Is it yours?

This beautiful 4-year-old nugget is sweet as pie. She’s shy at first, but has come a long way in meeting new people and fur friends.

When it’s nap time, it’s nap time and she doesn’t care where you think you’re heading off to… She goes comatose and will demand to be carried so she can sleep.

She is one adora-bullie and your heart will melt when you meet her!

12/13/22 Update:  Ms. Holly Day is snuggled nicely with her new blanket.

She says thank you to all of our generous supporters and volunteers, as she is happy to be adjusting in her foster home.

We have a ways to go for potty training, but she has warmed up quickly, always eager for love.

The only thing that remains on her wish list is a forever home.

1/4/23 Update:  Hi fans! I need to share some great news.

I got to spend not one, but two whole weeks at Chez Shaw, my temporary foster home, and I did great!

Cats? I don’t care about them. I ignored them.

Harness? Wearing it now. Although, I still don’t love to see Foster Momma come at me with the leash.

Potty manners? I’m doing better at going outside,  holding it or going on my “towel” (don’t judge…I like it better than the beds, for now).

The folks at Chez Shaw will tell you that they loved me and I loved them.

How can anyone resist this beautiful face?

Yes, I am still a bit shy. I’m also submissive, so I will fit into most any house that you have for me!

Please hurry and get in your applications. I may be your perfect match! I could make your next Holly Day extra special.

1/10/23 Update:  Holly Day is working on that adorable crooked head tilt, looking for her treat for going outside.

While she still does not like the leash, she has been doing a great job of following me outside to go potty.

When I am not home, she has mastered using the pee pads I put down. A few days ago she even started pooping outside.

Oh – the things that make us feel successful!

Holly Day still reacts to loud noises and sudden movements, but she is the most loving dog! She learned that the couch, when invited, is a great place for snuggles and her kisses are the best!

She is truly a gorgeous girl and so ready for a home.

Other dogs? No problem. Cats? She says, “Who cares…” I have not seen her around kids – though younger ones may be too frenetic at first.

Someone needs to scoop her up quickly as this petite ball of love is a perfect match for almost anyone!

1/19/23 Update:  I’m coming to you with an amazing discovery. This weekend, I learned to jump on the couch. It took me a few tries, but I got it!

The most amazing thing happened when I did: I got to cuddle and snuggle with Foster Mom!

I gazed at her and leaned on her, sending not-so-subliminal messages that she needs to keep petting me. No worries – I let her know it is not OK to stop until I am ready!

Foster Mom says I am doing so well – hardly any accidents (and I am pretty darn good about going on the pad, I must say) and I am a good listener.

She says I will be the perfect addition to your home as long as you are patient while I get comfortable and confident. Can I be your valentine?

1/31/23 Update:   “Really, Foster Mom? You think you can give me a bone and then take it away? I think not.”- foster girl Holly Day  From the foster momma: Thanks to her time at Melissa’s, we know she loves her Benebone. I was going for a Tongue Out Tuesday pic, but I got some attitude with it because it required her to stop chewing long enough to look up. Luckily, her adorable face gets her what she wants! Besides the bone, all she wants is a loving family to adopt her, play with her and love on her.

2/2/23 Update:  Foster Mom says I am a pro at lying around and doing nothing. And with weather like this, I have perfected my pillow posing. My tail wagged when I discovered how comfy this is!

Do you have pillows at your house? If so, it’s urgent that you fill out an application to adopt a Bulldog. You could be my perfect match and I could show you how much love I have to share!

2/7/23 Update:  I am over the cold and ice, says Holly (though I loved having FM home with me all week!). I tried hiding my face in the pillow and then hiding behind foster Mom but she still made me go out in the cold. Finally, on Sunday, it was so nice that I sat outside in protest as I did not want to come in. I am good about going out to do my business but, if I have nothing to do, I will just sit down and stare at FM so she knows I am “empty”

Holly is still wishing and hoping for her forever family as she has so much love to share

Holly says to remind you to stare in to her beautiful face as you fill out your adoption application!

2/14/23 Update:  Holly Day enjoyed the beautiful, sunny day, but she kept hearing about a Super Bowl. Come dinner time, she didn’t think her bowl was that super. I think she was disappointed that it had the same kind of and quantity of food she gets every day. She wondered, “What is so super about this?” Poor Holly – I needed to give her extra attention and love to compensate for being let down….

2/21/23 Update:  Holly was never comfortable with a leash. She would run when she saw it and then try to pull or just sit if I got it on

We have been practicing with it for little walks so that she can meet all her friends this Saturday at The Bulldog Bonanza at K-9 Culture in Carrollton this Saturday

She has come so far even leading the walk and she is ready to meet her forever family

Do you have lots of love to give?

Happy to sit with her face staring up at you with so much love?

Come meet Holly Day and see what all the fuss is about!

3/3/23 Update:  Holly Day had such a great time at our last Bulldog Bonanza. She said hi to all the other dogs and loved getting so many pets from friendly people.

She was hopeful that she would meet her forever family, but not sure if it will happen just yet.

While I keep my fingers crossed for this beauty, she could not even keep her head up once we got home… just too tired! Where are you Holly’s forever family?

Holly Day will be attending the Pizza Paw-ty and looks forward to meeting you!

3/14/23 Update:  Foster Mom kept talking about a Pizza Paw-ty so I started my Saturday with a little outside tanning.

That was short-lived, as the evil woman then made me come inside to get “washed up.” I tried ignoring her, but she persisted and in I went.

I had a great time at the event. I made a few friends who were petting me a lotand I loved it.

By the time we got in the car to head home, I was pooped.

Note to self: like the paw-ty life!

4/11/23 Update:  Holly Day was  hoping for her own Easter basket from the Easter Bunny, but all she got was some silly Easter garland. Bad Foster Mom would not let her have it. Truth is, she is a hoarder and will take what she can and add it to her couch of toys/dog coats/shoes, etc. Gotta love her!

4/21/23 Update:  Poor Holly Day! She was all excited to meet new people and get lots of pets.at yesterday’s Pizza Paw-ty until she got tangled in a chair and it fell, scaring her so much. She hid out with Foster Mom for a while and then did some more visiting with old friends and new. Hopefully, you got to meet her as she is about the sweetest thing you could ask for!

And, while she was waiting for some pizza, she “settled” for love from Blake and a chance to sit on his lap and chill.

5/2/23 Update:  Miss Holly Day was told she needed to put on weight and, for her, that was “challenge accepted.”

She added about 5 lbs in two weeks and is finally filling out to Bulldog-size sexiness.

We continue to have her on meds to help with absorption and she takes her pills like a champ.

On the potty training front, she continues to do well with peeing on the pad or outside. For pooping, she is a little less consistent about getting it all on the pad when she goes in the house.

She’s ready for someone to love heris that you?
