Sugarplum Figgy

Sugarplum Figgy

We have a devastating update to share with you.

The angel who came into our rescue program at Christmas ~ Sugarplum Figgy ~ now truly has her wings.

Sugarplum was nothing but skin and bones when we first met her. We had to save her.

Her foster momma, Sonia, nursed her back to health and stuck by her side, through thick and thin. Or in Sugarplum’s case, from thin to thick.

She gained weight, got spayed and endured heartworm treatment. Her well-being blossomed, as did her personality. She was a lover and fit right into Sonia’s pack. Her chill attitude made her a favorite at our rescue events.

After making a full transformation with her health, we were all excited to learn Sugarplum had a meet-and-greet scheduled for today. We were hopeful it would finally be her happily ever after.

Unfortunately, that adoption wasn’t meant to be.

Yesterday, Sugarplum was playing outside with her Bulldog friend. When she stood up, she made a noise, then fell over. Sonia couldn’t bring her back.

To say Sonia has a broken heart is an understatement. She loved her dearly and was so proud of the progress they were able to make together. Please share your love with her, as she could certainly use our support.

Hug your Bulldogs, friends. You just never know if it may be your last chance.

Sugarplum Figgy, you took a part of our hearts with you. Trust us: you will never be forgotten.

It was a true Christmas miracle when she was picked up by animal control. After all, starving to death is a horrible way to die.

While she didn’t fully know her fate, she knew whatever she would be dealt next, had to be better than the life she had living. Weighing just under 30 lbs and barely able to walk, she was carried to the animal control officer’s truck. Sugarplum Figgy had no idea how much her life was about to change.

The shelter director called and told me that I might want to sit down before she sent me photos of the dog that was just picked up. I was excited. In my mind, it was going to be a big ol’ fat one that might need a diet.

Never, in a million years, was I prepared for these photos. They took my breath away.

All I could think of was that evil is alive and well. And, most likely, there is more than one person who saw this dog being starved to death and did nothing. To see something wrong and not do anything about it makes you as guilty as the person doing the wrong.

What a cruel world we live in where we, as a society of people, allow this to happen and not stop it, at whatever the cost.

You crop a dog’s ear, you starve a dog to death, you try to destroy an innocent soul by abusing it and watching it slowly die… Who even are you? Why are you even allowed to walk among us?

Sugarplum Figgy is about 2 years old and is, unfortunately, heartworm positive.

12/29/23 Update:  Many of you want to know how you can help Sugarplum Figgy. Her foster momma said one way is simple: treats! She’s in need of Fromm Crunchy Os. These would help not just Sugarplum, but also the other kids in in the foster home: Bailey Faith, Juno, Alexa and Paula Deen. If you’d like to help, please use the Amazon Wish List link in the thread below and they’ll ship directly to us. Thanks for helping our doggos!

1/11/24 Update:  About a week ago, we asked you all for some specific treats for foster girl Sugarplum Figgy. And you all delivered… and then some! Thank you so very much!

From her foster momma: Sugarplum Figgy wants to thank everyone for sending her treats!

Sugarplum is slowly adding on weight and is the sweetest, most perfect little girl! She quickly steals the hearts of everyone she meets.

1/16/24 Update:  Sugerplum Figgy is doing great in her foster home! She loves everyone she meets. She had her first spa day with a mobile groomer and she was perfect! She is gaining weight! She is very clingy and wants attention and will jump and nip you hands and feet to get it! I am glad she is gentle when doing it! I have reached out to a trainer to help me get a handle on it so that it does not become a problem.

She would be great in any home as long as she gets to snuggle and sleep with humans! And other pups to play with!

1/25/24 Update:  A great big thank you to our friend Erika Wesson at P Dawg accessories for bulldogs! Erika sent foster girl Sugarplum Figgy her very own new collar and leash set to make this beautiful girl even MORE beautiful.

1/30/24 Update:  Some of our greatest treasures we place in museums. Others we take for walks.

Foster girl Sugarplum Figgy encourages everyone to make a Bulldog their valentine this year.

2/23/24 Update:  “Do i look cute in my diaper or what?”

From the foster momma: Sugarplum Figgy came into heat, so she’s trying some new garb. She has the best personality and is just perfect! She loves everyone she meets and will fit into almost any type of family.

4/24/24 Update:  Sugarplum Figgy is wrapping up her final week of heartworm treatment and then she’ll be ready for adoption. Maybe you’d be her perfect match?
