2/22/26 FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS ~ It’s with heavy hearts that we share the unexpected passing of one of our beloved foster girls, Tofu. She was deeply cherished and will be missed more than words can express.
From Dianne, Tofu’s foster momma: “I wanted to let you know that last week something happened that broke my heart. My foster girl, Tofu, died while I was on vacation. Tofu was an odd little Bulldog. She liked no one but me. And she loved me. She ran everywhere she went and she did not have an off button. She could get really stressed in new places and she trusted no one. I believe she had a heart attack or stroke. She died in her sleep. If me leaving caused her death, I would not have gone. If love could have saved Tofu, she would have lived forever.”
Tofu was safe. She was loved. And she knew exactly who her person was. That kind of bond is rare and beautiful.
Run free, sweet girl. You were so very loved.

INTRODUCTION: My name is Tofu and I joined rescue today at two years old.
The shelter people found me and they called me a beautiful mess. I have this thing on my eye, and I have numerous lumps all over my skin. Speaking is skin, I am skin and bones. Somebody made my ears look very ugly. I don’t know why they wanted to ruin my beautiful ears.
They named me Tofu because they said my color reminded them of that wonderful delicacy! Have they ever tasted tofu? My color is beautiful, but that is about the only thing right now. But they tell me I will soon blossom under rescue’s care. Then people will line up around the block to take me home.
Not only do I need to gain some weight, but I need to work on my confidence. I am very afraid of everything right now. But that will come with time. After some work, at the vet I will be looking for my forever home. You won’t believe how beautiful I can become.
7/14/25 UPDATE: Remember Tofu?
This sweet little lady came into our care back in April after we pulled her from a local shelter.
12/1/25 UPDATE: We’re working to match Tofu to the best family for her! From her foster momma: Tofu isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, and honestly, she knows it. But if you’re one of the people she decides to trust, she will be your shadow and your best friend.
When she meets someone new, she gets scared. She’ll back up, maybe growl a little and then run off to hide. It takes her time, sometimes a lot of it. But eventually she’ll peek back out, inch her way over and once she realizes you’re safe, she’ll choose you. And when Tofu chooses you, it’s special.
We don’t know everything about her past, but we know enough to understand why she is the way she is. Her ears are cropped down to nothing, and it looks like it was done with scissors or a pocketknife. It’s a rough, amateur job and it tells you a lot about what she probably went through.
Tofu’s ideal home is simple: An adult who is a homebody, doesn’t want to take her to busy places and is happy with just her. She has no interest in social outings or meeting new people. Those situations make her panic. She’ll shake, pant and completely shut down.
She’s also dog-selective. She and foster boy Haze are good buddies, but if she doesn’t like another dog, she really doesn’t like them, and she’s not afraid to start a fight.
Somewhere out there is a person who understands Bulldogs like Tofu ~ someone patient and experienced who doesn’t need her to be something she’s not. Until we find a great applicant like that, she’s staying with me. No rush, no pressure. She’s safe here, and she can take all the time she needs.
