Abby Allison

Abby Allison

I’m here to share the best news ever: rescue found my next home and it could not be a more perfect fit.

You see, I love to give love and get love, eat a little here and there, play a little and enjoy lots of rest. Guess who else likes that? My new dad! He’s retired. That means that I don’t have to spend much time alone, at all.

His little dog crossed the Rainbow Bridge a couple of years ago and he’s been all alone. He told the rescue that he would like a fat Bulldog with short legs. He had no idea that they had me: the perfect match for him!

He tells me that I’m the most perfect lady for him and that I’m beautiful. What lady doesn’t want to hear that?

When we arrived, he had already bought me a beautiful pink collar and leash, a ball and a comfy new bed. I also have two aunts who live nearby. They came to meet me, as well as some of the other family.

My foster mom cried a little when she left me… but she told me that she knows that I am in the best place, and I will know a love like no other.

I am just a mess. Last month, I had surgery to fix a deep corneal ulceration in my left eye. The doc did graphs to provide physical support and blood supply to my eye. I was sent home with four different eye medications and was told that the first two weeks would be a super critical window for my healing process.

But then my mom had a stroke and I had to move in with a family member who didn’t give me my eye meds. Now I am running into things and my vision is neatly gone.

Thank goodness I joined rescue when I did. I am headed back to the ophthalmologist who did my surgery to see if anything can be done so I can see again.

Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers. I am 5 years old and there is a lot of world that I still want to see.

5/2/23 Update:  Today marks one week since Abby joined our family as our newest foster dog.

As you might remember when she entered rescue, her eyes looked awful and she couldn’t see well at all. She recently had surgery on her left eye, and unfortunately, the drops the eye doctor prescribed weren’t given, nor did they come with her when she was surrendered. Thanks to volunteer Tina for making trip to Fort Worth, we got all her meds from the eye doc on Tuesday. Her eyes are already looking so much better and her personality is really starting to shine.

She loves,  loves, loves her balls!  She plays fetch until she’s too pooped to run.  She also likes you to sit in floor with her and she will roll the ball to you. If you don’t roll it back, she will tell you about it!

We take her to see our precious Dr. Larsen in the morning to make sure she is completely healthy. I know she’s going to love this little gem. She does the cutest dance with her feet and wiggles all over when you talk to her.

Stay tuned for her progress, and you better get your applications in quickly…. everyone is going to fall in love with her.

6/21/23 Update:  Hi all you Bulldog lovers! It’s been a little while since I’ve said, “Hi.” I’ve been busy looking through applications, searching for the perfect furever family. I haven’t found them yet. Maybe it’s you and you haven’t finished filling out your application.

I’m a young 5-year-old. I’m a calm and laid-back lil’ lady, for the most part. But I do love to play ball and love all the toys!

I’m a talker when I need your attention, or if I need that ball to move. And you know what they say, “It’s not going to throw itself.” LOL

I don’t care for the doggy door. I am not going through that little hole for no amount of treats, praises or love… just open the door for me,  please! I do need to be watched and offered the opportunity to go outside. You know it’s kind of hot out there, and I’m just fine going to that little room where Foster Mom and Foster Dad go for their business. I’m learning that Foster Mom doesn’t really appreciate that much, and asks me if I’d like to go outside quite often. As long as she remembers to ask, I cooperate nicely!

I have learned that at bedtime, Foster Dad always wakes me up and tells me it’s time to go to bed. I’m not sure why, as I’m usually already sleeping on the couch, but he does, so I hop down and run to get in my comfy bed in my kennel. I am a good girl and sleep through the night with no issues.

I’m not a fan of taking walks or really even going places. I don’t mind the car ride, so if you are up to carrying me and putting me in the car,  we are good… but please don’t ask me to walk or jump in.

I like kids and really like it when they let me give them kisses! I get along with all the kids and other dogs.

I hope you can finish filling out your application. You may be ready for a sweet lil’ lady, like me, who has lots of love to give.

6/26/23 Update:  Abby Allison has a new playmate ~ foster boy Cinco joined us a couple of days ago and he loves to play. She is learning to share her toys, and is doing very well with it.

She still won’t use the doggy door. We’ve been trying to be more vigilant with asking her if she wants to go outside. She doesn’t mind going outside, but she won’t ask. You have to ask her!

She knows what it means when you say,  “Abby, it’s night-night time.” While she rather sleep on the couch, she does get down and goes into her kennel with no complaints.

Abby needs a family who likes to be homebodies. Once you put on her harness and leash, she puts on the brakes! She does great in the car, but you do have to carry her and put her into the car.

We know lots of dogs get their exercise by going on walks, but Abby prefers to chase balls and toys.

She loves to sit with you. Abby is very loving and loves to give kisses. She may not be a puppy, but she is very, very playful!

8/22/23 Update:  Abby Allison is still hanging out with her foster family.

She is such a loving little lady. She enjoys playing, sun bathing, eating and sleeping.

Her favorite friend to play with was Cinco and she had to say goodbye this past week when he went off to be with his new family.

She loves to sunbathe, but as you know, this Texas heat is brutal. Foster Mom has to time her when she asks to go out and lay in the sun.

Abby is not a big fan of the doggy door, but that’s a good thing so that we know how long she is out there each time. She has her favorite spots to crawl up and take naps.

She sleeps in her kennel all night. And as soon as she is finished with her morning potty break, she makes her way to the bed and sleeps for a few hours!

We have learned that she is a little food possessive. She doesn’t like sharing. In fact, the other fur residents have learned that they really shouldn’t even look at her while she’s eating.

Other than that, she is the biggest sweetheart and such a little cuddle bug!

If you are looking for a calm little lady who likes to play a little and snuggle a lot, she may be the one for you! Get in your applications soon.

9/27/23 Update:  I just wanted to check in and let you all know how special I am. I love my foster mom and foster dad, but I’m really dreaming about my adoption day!

I would love to have a family who likes to chill. I enjoy playing a little ball (very little), having some good food and lots of chilling.

I’m getting better about walking on my leash… but walking to the car is about far enough for me! I’m a big snuggle bug, too.
