Barracuda (now Barry)

Barracuda (now Barry)

In a weekend full of wonderful adoptions, this one was hands-down my favorite — my sweet Barracuda (“Barry”) found his family!

Kathy and Fernando made the trip all the way from Katy, Texas on Sunday, hoping to find a perfectly matched  companion for their pup Riley, who had been feeling the loss of her fur brother.

And wouldn’t you know it — she immediately gave Barry her stamp of approval! I just had a feeling it would be a perfect match.

Barry was calm, confident, and completely charmed his way into Riley’s heart — and theirs. He’s now settling into his new home, exploring every corner, and soaking up the love he so deeply deserves.

To Kathy, Fernando, and Riley: I wish you a lifetime of joy with this incredible little guy. He gave us so much to love, and now he gets to share that love with you.

Happy trails, sweet Barry. We will always love you.

Hey there, I’m Barracuda, but you can call me Barry if you’d like—some of my friends do!

I’ll be honest, I was pretty shocked when I ended up wandering around town and found myself at the local shelter.

But you know what? Shelter life wasn’t so bad for me. In fact, I was surrounded by so much love!

Everyone there absolutely adored me, and when it was time for me to leave, I got the most heartfelt goodbye hugs. One lady even had tears in her eyes and told me that if she didn’t already have a house full of dogs, I’d be the one to join her.

They just gave me a bath (I was looking pretty spiffy) and even got me a new collar and leash. A kind man tried to put a scarf on my head because I don’t have ears, and he thought I might be cold. But, uh, scarves aren’t really my thing—especially when they’re covered in flowers.

I’m a dude, after all!

The shelter folks think I’m still young, probably around 2 years old. I’ve got a few scars on my face, which tells me I’ve had a rough past, possibly some fights. But I want to set the record straight—I’m a lover, not a fighter!

I played well with the other dogs in my playgroup, and I’ve never had any desire to pick a fight.

Sadly, someone cut off my ears to make me look intimidating, and maybe even downright scary. But trust me, I’m just a sweet guy looking for love.

I’ll be checking in after my vet visit to make sure I’m all healthy and ready for my next family. Fingers crossed that everything goes smoothly, and I can find my home soon!

3/26/25 Update:  Oh, barra-barra-barra-barra… Oh, barra, Barracuda

Or as we like to call him—Barry Sweet.

Barracuda is one of those dogs who just makes everyone smile. He’s got that magic combo of charm, swagger, and sweetness that wins hearts the second you meet him.

Barry’s sleek coat, happy soul, and stubby little legs only make him more irresistible. His trot alone makes hearts go woof woof.

Great on a leash

A+ car rider

Plays well with other dogs

Loves everyone he meets

His ears have been through the unfortunate DIY treatment meant to make him look “tough”—but joke’s on them, because Barry is a total sweetheart. One look into his expressive eyes and you’ll see the softest soul with a heart of gold.

Once a stray, Barry is now ready for the good life. He’s not just looking for a home—he’s looking for someone to sing his praises and love him forever.

And trust us, once you meet him, you won’t be able to stop singing either.

4/18/25 Update:  Barracuda—also known as Barry—has been with us for a couple of weeks now, and let me tell you he’s an absolute gem.

Despite the tough exterior his name might suggest, Barry is all heart. He’s a gentle soul with a marshmallow center—friendly with people, amazing with other dogs, and always wearing a happy little smile. He doesn’t have a single complaint about life, even after everything he’s been through.

Sadly, that smile hides a past marked by cruelty. Barry came to us with crudely cropped ears and visible scarring on his front legs. Someone clearly failed him—but he refuses to carry that pain forward. It’s heartbreaking to imagine what he endured, and maddening to think someone could hurt such a kind and innocent dog.

And yet Barry is thriving.

He doesn’t know how to play with toys yet or chew on bones, but he does know how to be the world’s best shadow. Wherever you are, Barry wants to be right there—quietly by your side, soaking up the love.

At just the right height to miss couches, beds, and car seats, Barry happily accepts lifts from his people—like the royalty he is.

He’s housebroken, enjoys short walks, and though his bowed front legs slow him down a bit, supplements are helping, and his spirit is anything but weary.

This sweet boy doesn’t ask for much—just a soft place to land, a loving hand, and a forever family to call his own.

We’re honored to be part of his journey. Barry, you are so very loved.
