5/27/25 AWESOME ADOPTION ALERT! From volunteer Kayle:
Blanche Virginia has been adopted! And nope—it’s not a foster fail. This is a full-blown, all-in, hearts-wide-open foster win. ![]()
Blanche Virginia came to rescue looking like she was assembled by a committee that never agreed on anything.
Dislocated elbows? Check.
Crooked paw? Yep.
Wobbly hips and a spine with an attitude? Absolutely.
She’s what Dr. Lay lovingly called a “genetic disaster,” but we just call her perfect.
And lucky for Blanche, her foster family felt the same way. Especially the kids.
Because while Blanche was snuggling in their laps and barking for snacks like she ran the place (she did), they were quietly on a mission.
They started saving. ![]()
Allowance. Birthday money. Couch cushions.
One dollar at a time, they worked toward the thing they wanted most: making Blanche theirs.
With a little boost from rescue fairy godmother Tina, they finally hit their goal—and now, their floppy, crooked, bunny-hopping best girl is officially part of the family.
Their 9-year-old said it best:
“Her being different is what makes her beautiful.”
So cheers to you, Blanche Virginia. You may have been dealt a rough hand, but you just hit the jackpot.
Turns out, she didn’t need fixing—just a family.

INTRODUCTION: Please welcome our latest shelter pickup, Blanche Virginia, to our rescue family. We’re told she’s just about 6 months old, but she’s a bit of a crooked mess. It looks like she has two dislocated elbows, and one paw that curves outward. We’ll share more details about this sweet girl as we receive them. Thank you for allowing us to save her!
Blanche Virginia (named after volunteer Sheliah’s grandmother) arrived at her foster home and is settling in beautifully!
At just 5-6 months old and weighing only 14 pounds, she’s the sweetest little baby you could ever meet. While she is a special needs girl, that doesn’t slow her down one bit—she’s already crawling into your lap for snuggles and barking at you when it’s time to eat.
We’re beginning potty training, but taking it easy for now, especially since she was just spayed at the shelter. Blanche Virginia also will be seeing Dr. Lay to see if there’s anything we can do to help with her mobility. Stay tuned for updates on this little cutie!
1/31/25 update: Blanche continues to do well in her foster home. She loves to snuggle and be held! Her two-legged foster sisters adore her. Blanche also got to meet the cats last night and did great!
2/7/25 update: Blanche Virginia is doing well in her foster home and is being thoroughly pampered by her foster sisters. She’s making great progress with her potty training and has the sweetest nature. She’s met a few of her fur foster siblings (kept apart to avoid being overwhelmed by too much affection), and she absolutely loves lounging on the bed! On top of that, she’s been practicing her turkey herding skills—small in size, but certainly mighty in spirit!
She is to visit the vet this week for X-rays and her team is now working on a game plan to increase her mobility.
2/20/25 update: Blanche Virginia is doing wonderfully in her foster home, showing off her sassy side every day! She loves to snuggle up and play, bringing so much joy to everyone around her. She’s making great progress with potty training (though she’s not a fan of the cold!). Blanche Virginia also had a visit with Dr. Lay to assess her mobility, and we’re just waiting on the next steps to create a plan for her. This little girl is as cute as a button and sure to steal your heart!
3/14/25 update: Blanche Virginia is doing wonderfully in her foster home. We recently received an update from Dr. Lay, and unfortunately, it wasn’t the news we had hoped for. Given the condition of her elbows, knees, and back, he recommended against surgery on her front legs. So, Blanche Virginia will continue to hop around like a little bunny, playing and showing off her sassy personality every day.
She’s making great progress with her potty training and enjoys going out with the big dogs. Blanche Virginia adores her “skin sisters,” especially because they carry her around and let her cuddle during movie time. This sweet girl is a true love bug who thrives in the middle of the action—though we always have to be mindful to ensure the other dogs don’t accidentally bulldoze her.
While she may have special needs, Blanche Virginia is small but mighty, and her loving spirit shines through every day.
