Bubba Gump Shrimp

Bubba Gump Shrimp

When Foster Mom was giving me a bath yesterday, she kept saying something about my “Big Day.” I didn’t know what she meant, but when I got up this morning, I knew something was happening!

A really nice family came to visit and said they were taking me home with them. They said their kids are grown up and their house feels empty. They have lots of time and energy to spend on me! Wow! That’s what I’ve been dreaming about…my very own furever family.

And the good news doesn’t stop there, people! Bubba Gump Shrimp jumped right in the car with us and we set off down the road. What a great Big Day, indeed.

I never thought, when I jumped up in the car, I was going to the local shelter to be euthanized. I thought I was going for ice cream. Me, Bubba Gump Shrimp? How was that even possible?

All my life I had a family. Had I done something wrong? I kept thinking, “Why me?”

Even though I am 6 years old, I’m in the prime of my life. I can still run like the wind and I can still chase the ball.

Had there been a misunderstanding? Or was my family just tired of having a Bulldog?

My vet records said I needed eye surgery and I had needed it for a long time. True, my eyes can be a mess and need cleaning a lot, but in my defense, I could not help that. I should have had the surgery.

Today, I am one thankful Bubba Gump Shrimp because the shelter would not euthanize me. They knew that I deserved surgery for my eyes and some drops daily for a condition called dry eye. And they knew I had a lot of life left to live.

Dr. Larsen is going to love me, I bet. She loves big Bulldogs and she will be so excited to see me!

3/14/22 Update:  We may be changing Bubba Gump Shrimp’s name to “Bubba the Amazing” because he definitely is… He moved right in the house, a perfect gentleman, showing off his skills at being a good houseguest. He’s currently recovering from eye surgery, but soon will be matched to his furever family.

3/18/22 Update:  Bubba has been with us a week and is still amazing! He’s calm, easy to please, likes to snuggle, knows his commands and when to go outside. He’s just a great family member!

He will have his stitches removed this week and will them be ready for his furever family!

3/22/22 Update:  Bubba is still amazing… except for bath time! Then it becomes a time of begging and bribes with the good treats. One thing he will not run from is massage time though. He’s first in line for that! Anyone would be lucky to have him in their family.
