Buddy Brown

Buddy Brown

Friday was Buddy Brown’s adoption day by Dianne and Max! He was smiling and greeted his new fur mama and dad with a hug and a dance when they arrived. He will continue to be the most spoiled baby ever, just as he should be. He packed his bag with his favorite toy and Buddy and his foster fur sister, Liberty, celebrated with a drooly dream bar cake. Happy tails, Buddy!

I wandered around until I found a home that looked like a place I wanted to live. Matter of fact, after I met the lady who lives there, I knew I wanted to stay.

She was so nice to me and she named me Buddy. She said she had always wanted a Bulldog and if she ever got one she was going to name him Buddy. So what a lucky day it was for me!

I went right on inside the house and made myself at home. My new mom started looking for anyone who might be looking for me. After about a week, she told me she thought no one was missing me. That was great ~ I had already made myself at home.

And then there was a problem.

No one is this country area has a fence. Everyone just wanders. I had done my share of wandering so I stayed close to home. But there was a dog who lives in the area who wanders also. And when he wandered up to me, he about took my ear off! That’s right, he grabbed my ear and the side of my face and the fight was on.

I was trying to get away. I tried to run away and hide, but since I was in his territory, there was no getting away. I will always remember that as “The day I almost lost an ear and maybe an eye.”

My mom was hysterical. I am just a baby. I have no fighting skills. My new mom realized farm living was not the life for me. And with tears falling like rain, she told me she loved me. She loved me enough to make sure I never got hurt again.

Dr. Larsen said I’m about a year and a half old. She started me on antibiotics for my ear and some pain medication.

6/21/23 Update:  Buddy Brown is doing well and living his best life in his foster home.

He has a lot of puppy in him. He still shows some of the baby shark phase and is pretty mouthy when he gets excited. This is easy to redirect with a toy or bone.

The highlights of his day include rooting in the doggie bed, followed by chewing on a bone and cooling his belly on the tile after his walkies with his fur sister. Top on his list are belly rubs and getting pets from anyone and everyone.

He considers himself a lapdog. We are working toward him waiting for an invite before launching the full force of his baked potato body at you.

He doesn’t understand his size, so we’re also working on playing nicely with his fur sister ~ instead of the Bulldog wrestle mania that seems to be so common with his Bulldog cousins.

6/22/23 Update:  Buddy Brown is a lover of the snuggles and considers himself a lapdog. I think we are going to need a bigger dog bed.

He also has a beautiful smile and likes to show off his toofers. That is how he says, “Cheese!”

6/30/23 Update:  Buddy Brown is a lover of anyone he can get cozy with. His snores are not too loud to interfere with your favorite show.

He enjoys his walkies in the morning down to our community lake to see the ducks and then he gets his morning nap out of the way.

We have been working on basic commands, like “sit,” “down,” and the essential “twirl.”

Stay tuned for a video of his new tricks. Coming soon is stay. This one is still a work in progress.

He does all his business outside and has only had a couple of #2 accidents in the house. We need to do a better job of paying attention to his cues until he fully gets the idea.

He has obtained some nicknames: Bud the Spud, Buddy Shark (he gets a little mouthy when he gets excited), and as you can see. Snuggle Buddy.

7/18/23 Update:  Bud the Spud enjoys the couch potato life during these dog days of summer.  He loves his walkies first thing in the the morning and two laps of zoomies with his fur sister Liberty. He is set for the remainder of the day to nap and cuddle. He does really well in his crate, sleeps through the night, and is almost reliably potty trained. He is the best boy!
