Chester Alan

Chester Alan

We had the pleasure of caring for Chester Alan for about five months, helping him regrow his hair and recover from cherry eye surgery—and he did wonderfully through it all.

Two weeks ago, we had a meet-and-greet with Christina, and it was clear right away that she was in love with him!

Her other Bulldog, Dixie, seemed a bit unsure at first, but Christina decided to take him home that day.

Chester needed a little time to adjust, but Christina and her family were patient and persistent, working with him to help him settle in.

Fast forward to today, and Chester and Dixie are inseparable! They play together constantly and are often found snuggled up in the same bed, even though they each have their own.

Chester has also become the loyal sidekick during morning workouts, always by the husband’s side. And while he’s tried to catch the cat a few times, it’s safe to say… the cat is still winning!

Christina and her family are overjoyed to have such a sweet boy who brings so much laughter and joy into their lives!

Chester Alan’s story is another heartbreaking example of neglect. It’s a Bulldog that someone owned, but probably should never have. Left to fend for himself, Chester Alan could have been turned loose in thisl pitiful condition, and it seems this kind of cruelty is becoming all too common. People look the other way, and in the end, it’s the animal who suffers.

When Chester Alan was a puppy, he was likely healthy, chubby, and full of life. But now, he’s a tiny, frail version of what he should be. On intake, he weighed just 29 pounds—far too light for a Bulldog. Today, Chester Alan joins rescue, where he’s 100% puppy at heart. He’s playful and sweet, and he loves to carry his leash in his mouth like a proud little pup.

Just two weeks ago, another rescue in a town without a shelter or animal services found Chester Alan. They treated him like gold, letting him sleep in a people bed, showing him kindness and care. But they knew that a breed-specific rescue would be in the best position to help him long term. With hugs, kisses, and heartfelt goodbyes, they sent him on his way to us.

There’s no telling how long Chester Alan wandered around before he was found, but since then, he’s gained about 5 pounds. He’s still confused and uncertain about what happened to him, especially why he was never taken to a vet to address his condition—his hair loss, his frailty. We’ve started him on antibiotics and medicated baths, but today, all we feel is sadness for Chester Alan—a Bulldog who has suffered, likely at the hands of someone who should never own an animal again.

Chester Alan deserves so much more than what he’s been through, but we’re committed to giving him the care and love he needs to heal. He’s a sweet soul, and we’ll do everything we can to make sure his future is filled with the love and care he’s been denied for so long.

11/30/24 Update:  Chester Alan is settling in wonderfully with his foster family and continues to show his fun, loving personality!

He absolutely loves his baths and gets one three times a week. While he’s not a fan of his eye drops, once they’re in, he enjoys a relaxing eye massage. His eyes are already starting to look much better!

A generous person gave Chester Alan’s foster dad a bunch of used toys, and Chester Alan is having a blast tearing through them like a little Tasmanian devil! He especially loves crinkly toys and hard toys, like Benebones, which keep him entertained for hours.

Chester Alan enjoys interacting with his foster siblings—he likes to put his front paws on his foster sister’s back, but she quickly lets him know that’s not OK! He and his foster brother have been seen trotting side by side, each carrying the same toy in their mouths—a sweet sight!

Chester Alan has already made himself comfortable by sleeping outside of his crate on a dog bed at the foot of the bed, and he sleeps soundly through the night with no accidents.

When it’s treat time, he’s quick to respond to “sit” and does it perfectly! He also loves to jump into our lap and roll over for belly rubs—such a sweet boy.

We’re working on a few behaviors, like not chewing the furniture (with lots of toys available for redirection), training him to go to the door when he needs to go outside, and working on discouraging constant jumping.

Chester Alan has truly been a sweet addition to our foster home. He brings out the best in our other pups and keeps us all smiling with his playful, loving nature.

12/13/24 Update:  Perry Wrinkle has been asking why he doesn’t have a family yet ~ and he uses his eyes to cuChester Alan is making great progress! His skin is clearing up, and his eye is looking much better too.

This little guy is full of spunk, love, and energy! He’s playful with other dogs, though we’re not sure about cats just yet.

Chester Alan absolutely loves his baths and is happiest snuggling up in bed or on a lap.

He’s still a big chewer, so he needs plenty of toys to keep him entertained! He also loves following me around and being my little shadow.
