Many folks may fall in love with a dog’s online photos without knowing the full story, but it’s so important for applicants to trust our process. We know our dogs best and we do everything we can to align our dogs with the best families for them.
That was the case with our handsome Chief McGruff, a true original. With his lovable charm and quirky antics, he’s always been a one-of-a-kind “only dog-dog.”
We’d been working with a kind-hearted adopter who recently lost his cherished companion of 13 years—and possibly a perfect match for our unique Bulldog. In true Chief McGruff fashion, he donned his harness like he was gearing up for the canine Olympics and dashed out the door, body wagging like a hula dancer, ready to meet his new best friend!
The excitement hit a whole new level when the big truck pulled up—his GIANT lifted Ford truck making an entrance worthy of a red carpet. Chief McGruff practically did a victory lap, as if saying, “This is it, folks—time to ride in style!” He then leaped into the truck like an Olympic athlete (or at least a very determined goofball) and bombarded his new person with kisses—from his eyes right down to his neck.
Now, Chief McGruff is off to live his best life in a home dedicated solely to him. He’s got adventures ahead that include boat rides, endless cuddles, and being the undisputed king of his very own palace. Farewell, dear Chief McGruff—we’ll miss your hilarious, heart-melting spirit, and we’re overjoyed that you’ve found your perfect home!
Chief McGruff is a 2-year-old, 70-pound Bulldog who joined our rescue with his favorite toy in tow.
Surrendered by his previous owner, Chief McGruff’s zest for life was apparently a little too much for the household cats to handle. We’re told he was then adopted by an older individual, but Chief McGruff’s spirited personality proved to be more than the adopter could manage. That’s when the shelter reached out to us for help. Naturally, we couldn’t resist his charm and fired up the rescue wagon to bring him home!
This active, playful, and athletic young man didn’t waste any time making an impression. When the shelter staff gathered to assist him into our lifted Jeep, Chief McGruff confidently declared, “Hold my leash—I got this!” and leaped right in. He seemed to know he was on his freedom ride and wasn’t about to let anything slow him down.
Once inside the rescue wagon, which is equipped with a crate for safety, Chief McGruff turned the space into his personal playground. He happily rolled around and played the entire ride. When the journey paused for a pit stop, Chief McGruff made it clear he wasn’t ready to leave the fun—he jumped right back in, this time taking up residence in the front seat as the official co-pilot.
In true Chief McGruff fashion, he’s here to remind everyone to “Take a bite out of overcrowded shelters—adopt your next furry family member!” With his lively spirit and love for adventure, we’re confident he’ll bring endless entertainment and joy. We can’t wait to see what stories his foster family will share about this energetic, car-loving boy!
2/13/25 Update: Our dashing Chief remains as handsome and loving with people as ever—and he’s also a big, lovable goober with the softest fur in the world! There’s one important note about this extraordinary boy: he truly is an only dog. Chief thrives as the sole canine in his home and simply isn’t suited for a multi-dog environment. While he’s a social butterfly with his human friends, he’s happiest when he’s the one and only furball stealing all the attention.
And let’s not forget one of his standout photos—Chief appears to be rocking a pair of playful, fake lips for a kiss! It’s his cheeky way of reminding us all that he’s not only charming but also uniquely one-of-a-kind.
