Cookie Claire

Cookie Claire

Cookie Claire met a sweet family from Houston a couple of weeks ago and it was love at first sight. Today was the day they came to pick up that sweet girl and take her home. In the next few weeks, she will get to know her family, including two new fur siblings, and settle into her new home. Congratulations, Miss Cookie! We look forward to hearing about your adventures!

Cookie Claire has experienced two miracles in her short life…. and she is so thankful for both of them.

The first was when she was saved from living outside about two years ago. She was chained to a tree, starving and standing in the rain. Thankfully, a neighbor stepped in to help and took her home. And it was amazing for her to finally be inside a home with food to eat and lots of love.

The second miracle was today.

Her family contacted rescue and said Cookie Claire had pyometra, a potentially fatal infection of the uterus, and they weren’t prepared to care for her.

Our volunteer Sheliah was in the right place at the right time. She dropped everything, so she could pick up Cookie Claire and rush her to Dr. Larsen.

While there were tears from her nom, there was also a lot of thanksgiving for jumping in to save the Bulldog. That was the most important thing for Cookie Claire’s mom ~ that she would get the medical care she needed to save her life.

12/13/23 Update:  Yesterday, Tina, the “TUber,”pulled up and helped bring me to my new foster home. I am so grateful for that, but there’s been so many changes in my life that I’m a bit skeptical of everything.

Foster Mom loved on me and told me everything was going to be OK. I have my very own pen in my very own room. I’m not quite ready to play with the resident boys, but just give me a little time!

Foster Mom tells me my eye will feel better after my drops, but I’m not buying it yet.

I’m ready for a permanent place to snuggle into. If you’ve been looking for a sweet little girl to call your own, I just might be the one!

12/19/23 Update:  Miss Cookie Claire arrived on Monday. She is so very timid around humans. Each day, she has relaxed a little more. She still prefers her couch, but will occasionally venture off of it.

She is terrified to go outside. Given her past, my assumption is that she’s afraid of being left out there. We are working on this several times a day and she finally stayed out long enough to go potty last night. Yay! She is great about going potty on the potty pads in the house.

She met alumni Big Ben and Uno and although she’s a little shy with them, there is definitely a spark of playfulness in there.

She is a wonderful cuddler and loves ALL the attention. She has made great progress in a few short days and we can’t wait to see her personality unfold as she get more comfortable.

12/21/23 Update:  We are seeing a little bit more of this girl’s personality each day.

Last week, she would barely leave the couch and was terrified of going outside. This week, she is enjoying the sunshine and has proclaimed mealtime her absolute favorite.

She still only ventures into 2 1/2 rooms in the house, but loves exploring the backyard.

She seems to be potty trained. If she does go in the house, she uses the potty pads.

She enjoys playing with the boys and even gets a little feisty with them occasionally.

We are trying to keep her a little quiet because she is slowly healing from her cherry eye surgery. She loves to cuddle on the couch with the humans. She’ll make an awesome addition to a lucky family.
