Diesel Drew (now Popeye)

Diesel Drew (now Popeye)

8/10/25 AWESOME ADOPTION ALERT! From the foster momma: After just two short weeks in our foster home, Diesel Drew has found his family and it couldn’t be a more perfect match!

From the moment they first saw him, his new family was smitten. Originally, Diesel Dre was scheduled to go to another home, but when that fell through, fate stepped in — and this wonderful family was thrilled for the chance to meet him.

Earlier this week, Diesel Drew visited their home for a short introduction, and it was love at first sniff. Everything just clicked. By the time we walked out the door, they knew he was meant to stay. And they went shopping right away for beds, toys and all the essentials because they were that sure he was “the one.”

He now has a new name to go with his new beginning: Popeye — which suits this big, brown-eyed sweetheart perfectly. He has a human brother to be his best buddy, and there’s even talk of Popeye becoming a therapy dog for seniors. With his calm and gentle nature, he’d be amazing at it.

We’re absolutely overjoyed for Popeye and his new family. We know this is just the beginning of a beautiful life together! 💕

6/21/25 INTRODUCTION: Please welcome Diesel Drew to our rescue family! From our volunteer Dianne: Sometimes, heartbreaking things happen to the best people—and last week, we had one of those days.

Diesel Drew comes from a family who has loved and lived with Bulldogs for decades. He is the fifth Bulldog his mom has had, and she can’t remember a time in her life without one. To say Diesel Drew was her baby is an understatement—he was her constant companion, her comfort, and her joy.

Born on June 15, 2022, Diesel lived a charmed life full of freedom, affection, and trust. He had never been crated, had full run of the house, and loved every person he met. He was more than a pet—he was part of her soul.

But life, as it sometimes does, brought unexpected change. A divorce. The daunting task of reentering the workforce after 27 years of raising children. A brand-new career at 50+, with training in Florida to become a flight attendant. The children are grown and gone, and as much as she tried to make it work—she knew that sending Diesel Drew to daycare every day—a doggy daycare is not a home.

After countless tears and heartfelt apologies, Diesel Drew was lovingly surrendered to rescue. It was, without question, one of the most emotional days we’ve experienced in over 20 years of rescue.

If love and tears could have kept them together, they’d have never been apart.

Now in rescue, Diesel Drew is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and adjusting to this next chapter in his life. We will make sure he is loved, protected, and placed in a home worthy of the devotion he’s known since birth.

Welcome to rescue, sweet Diesel Drew. You are so deeply loved. 💔🐶

6/22/25 UPDATE: From Diesel Drew’s foster momma: Diesel Drew has been settling in so well since he arrived. The first couple of days were a little nervous for him — some pacing and panting, and a couple of accidents — but I’m happy to report that’s all behind us now. He’s been calm, clean and has even started sleeping through the night. His appetite has picked up, too, which is always a great sign!

What I love most about Diesel Drew is his gentle soul. He’s incredibly sweet and soft-natured — a real joy to be around. Lately, he’s discovered the toy box and it’s the cutest thing watching him go through and pick out a new favorite. He’s learning how to play and seems to enjoy every moment of it. Right now, he’s the only dog in a quiet home, but with his personality, I truly believe he’d do well with respectful kids or other pets. He just wants to be loved and included.

And here’s a little bonus: he has the softest fur on his head — like velvet — and giving him kisses there has become one of my favorite parts of the day. Diesel Drew is such a good boy, and it’s been a gift watching him come out of his shell. I can’t wait to see him find the home he deserves.

6/30/25 UDPATE:  From Diesel Drew’s foster momma: Diesel Drew is really settling into the routine with his foster mom. He’s calm, comfortable and eating much better now. When she says, “Outside potty?” he heads right to the door like a pro!

This gentle guy had three visitors at once and handled it like a champ—no jumping, just pure joy and soaking up all the pets. He slept like a rock that night and took it easy the next day (classic Bulldog recovery mode!).

Diesel Drew loves his toys—especially when they’re scattered all over the floor for easy access. He’s even a fan of the toy box itself!
It’s been a little too hot to fully test his leash skills, but he does great on short walks to the mailbox and back.

Diesel Drew is a total sweetheart who’s going to make some lucky Bulldog lover very, very happy.

7/6/25 UDPATE: From the foster momma: Diesel Drew is a gentle soul on the lookout for his next home. He’s eating well (just a splash of broth makes mealtime irresistible), sleeps soundly through the night without taking over the bed, and strolls politely to the curbside mailbox like a perfect gentleman.

Fireworks? Not a problem—he took them in stride. He’s also crate-trained, though I only uses it occasionally since he does so well with a routine.

Diesel Drew thrives in a calm, predictable environment. He’s the kind of pup who brings quiet joy and steady companionship—a perfect match for someone who values peace, loyalty and love in their four-legged friend.

7/14/25 UDPATE: From the foster momma: Diesel Drew is settling in like a pro! He’s quickly found comfort in his new routine and has the perfect mix of old soul and 3-year-old mischief.

Diesel Drew absolutely lights up when I get down on the floor to play — a strong sign he’d do well with respectful kids who understand his vibe.

As for vices? Just a couple: the occasional burst of bedtime zoomies… and a very specific talent for stealing the caps off the toilet bolts. (It’s his favorite game — mostly because he loves being chased after he does it. 😆)

He’s charming, playful and always keeping things interesting — just the way we like it!
