Hogan Sheldon

Hogan Sheldon

My heart is full and happy as my sweet Hogan found his furever home with Christina and Kellen and their daughter, Samantha, this weekend.

This amazing couple met Hogan at Bulloween. They were there to look at bulldogs and soothe their souls from the tragic loss of their precious bully, Otis, and their beautiful blood hound, Blue, within days of each other.  They just magically bonded with Hogan that night and knew he was the one they needed.

Fast forward two weeks and it was meet and greet day!  It was like Hogan was meant to be there and once he won the approval of Nina, their 11yr old pitbull, all was good and he packed up and moved in the next day!

To see him interact with his new family and furry sister was just perfect.  He knew he was home with who he was meant to be with.  He is living his best life now; sleeping in bed with his parents, kissing his mom constantly, trying to scam extra meals and rounding up everyone’s shoes.  He has also taken up table surfing!

To know he is loved, blossoming and happy is the best feeling in the world!  Every dog deserves those very things, so thank you to everyone who helped him on his journey to his new life.

The nice lady who picked me up from the shelter told me she thought I looked like a Hogan. I thought that was a wonderful name for me.

I sat so long at the shelter waiting for my family to come for me. Day in and day out, dogs came and left while I just sat and watched.

Then they drew my blood and told me I was heartworm positive. Maybe that’s why my family didn’t want me any longer. It wasn’t my fault they didn’t protect me. I bet they were glad I was gone.

It was raining really hard when I was leaving the shelter, so my new friend carried me. For once, in a long time, I felt love.

I found a box in the back of the car and I decided that would be my new bed. I didn’t really fit, but it felt good laying on a soft bedspread.

My new rescue friend stood in the rain and took my pictures. She told me she loved me and she kissed my face. I know I am going to LOVE this thing called rescue because no one has ever stood in the rain for me before.

I’m around 3-4 years old. In addition to my heartworms, I have a cherry eye, some skin issues and I still need to be neutered. But after we fix all that, I’ll be perfect again.

2/10/23 Update:  Look at that face! Hogan Sheldon, Hoagie for short, is a beautiful 4-years-young bully boy. This Hogan is a true hero – he has been abandoned, battled heartworms and was possibly abused in his former life. This sweet nugget is looking for a fur-ever family who will love and care for him. He will flourish with a family who will show him that people are good and will go slow with him. Give him a Pup-Peroni and he’s your new best friend! Paws up, who wants to meet the Hoagie?

5/18/23 Update:  He has been in his foster home for a couple days now and has only interacted with two of our “nice” dogs and that went great.

He is a bundle of energy just waiting to explode after his heartworm rest. He is small, loveable and a bit “mouthy.”

He likes to hoard everything he can get ahold of in his crate. It’s starting to get a bit crowded in there with two cat beds, about six blankets and three toys.  He tried to add our shoes as well, but we managed to save them at the last minute.

He does not like to go outside on a leash, but will if you persuade him with treats. Then he only wants to run back to the door ASAP.

He is using pee pads in his decompression (main bathroom) area. He ventures out into our bedroom and a small courtyard, as well. He likes to go out there when his two furry friends are visiting him and will do his business outside if needed.

He is a very sweet little soul who just needs to find his place in his foster home and let things ride. Time is his friend and I just know he will be ready for launch soon.

6/2/23 Update:  Hogan is getting used to his foster family, learning boundaries and manners.  He is such a smart little boy and learns quickly.  Sometimes the way he looks at me, I think he understands everything I am saying. He can still be a little skittish around all our loudness, but he gets better every day.

He is not a fan of being outside and would prefer to potty on pee pads inside, but going out with the group is helping him greatly.  He holds it all night now!  Woo hoo!  It has to be hard and confusing for him with foster sis Jessie Lynn having diaper blowouts from time to time.  If we are home during the day, he is great and has no accidents, but when we are at work it’s a really long time for him.

He is adorable and cute and totally cracks us up with his antics and zoomies.  Jessie Lynn is not as amused as we are……but at least she has learned to tolerate it.  Lol!  Hogan is the sweetest little tater tot ever, but has a tendency to get bitey when you are petting him.  Thank goodness for benebones!  He loves to play with Norman and Zeke and they have a great time together.  He does not like the leash, but will cooperate if you go very slowly.

Favs for him are mealtime and snack time (of course!).  He is also a hoarder and will take every bone, toy, pillow, rug, etc. in the house into his crate, and let me tell you, it’s getting crowded in there!  We love watching him change and grow each day.  He will be a wonderful addition to any family without small children that cannot control his jumping and mouthing.  He is a rowdy little dude!

6/21/23 Update:  Hogan Sheldon wants the lower temps to stay and the rain to go away. He is not a fan!

8/11/23 Update:  Bulldog friends, does anyone know where I have been? Well, my foster family went on vacation to some exotic island, and they left me behind. That’s right, while they were basking in the sand, I was hard at work in the garden center.  Even though they knew I loved the white sand and a cabana boy to fan me they left without me.

They are coming back for me today, and I sure hope they brought me something fabulous from the island, and if they did not, someone is going to pay!

8/18/23 Update:  Hogan Sheldon (seen here) and Paisley Marie are happy to report that their foster parents FINALLY came back from vacation and they are so glad to be back together and back home!

These two are as different as night and day, but are the very best of friends.

Hogan is quiet and stoic, still a little shy and loves to stay in his safe zone (our bathroom and bedroom).

Paisley Marie is all girl puppy, happy with no “off limits” signs, crazy and loving at the same time.

They love to play all day with frequent naps in between play periods. When Hogan gets tired, Paisley just moves on to annoy the other dogs. She’s also made friends with Zeke (Lone Star Bulldog Club Rescue alumnus and resident BIG BOY), so she never lacks for entertainment.

They are doing very well with house training and I am so proud of them!

9/12/23 Update:  Foster kids Hogan Sheldon and Paisley Marie are the best of buds, but Hogan is a momma’s boy and Paisley is a daddy’s girl! They follow each other around and love to sunbathe, play and chew on things. This was just another typical hot summer week for them and both are looking forward to fall and getting to go for walks. Us too!
