7/6/26 AWESOME ADOPTION ALERT! From the momma: Sometimes the ones we’re trying so hard to save end up saving us.
When Jolene Ginger (JoJo) arrived at A5 in January, she was, quite literally, a broken dog. Jeff picked her up from the Weatherford Animal Shelter, and the sight of her broke our hearts. She had a broken jaw, was painfully thin, terrified of people, and looked like life had simply been too hard for too long.
But even through all of her pain, there was something in her eyes that said she still wanted to believe. She still wanted to trust.
We promised her she would never have to face life alone again.
She quickly became part of the A5 pack. Surrounded by our Bulldogs, she slowly began to heal. Every day brought a little more confidence. A wag of her tail. A playful zoomie. A gentle nudge asking for love. We watched her transform from a frightened little soul into the happy, silly Bulldog she was always meant to be.
When the day came for JoJo to be adopted, our hearts were full. Her new family adored her and wanted nothing more than to give her the spoiled life every Bulldog deserves. We cried happy tears as we watched her leave.
But life doesn’t always follow the script we write.
Without her pack, JoJo struggled. The little girl who had learned to trust again became overwhelmed with being left alone. Her separation anxiety was heartbreaking, and because we had always had other dogs around her, we had never seen that side of her. Her adopters loved her enough to make the most selfless and painful decision they could… they brought her back, wanting what was best for JoJo rather than what was easiest for themselves.
The moment she walked back into A5, it felt like she let out a sigh that said, “I’m home.”
Jeff and I have fostered many Bulldogs over the years. Every one of them has taken a piece of our hearts with them. We’ve always believed our job was to love them enough to let them go.
But JoJo was different.
We talked so many times about becoming foster failures with her. Then we’d remind ourselves that if we kept her, there might be one less space for another Bulldog who desperately needed us.
Then our world changed.
Our precious Elli May unexpectedly crossed the Rainbow Bridge, leaving behind a silence that only those who have loved a heart dog can truly understand. The grief was overwhelming.
And somehow, through all of that heartache, JoJo quietly filled the empty spaces—not replacing Elli May, because no dog ever could—but helping our hearts remember how to smile again.
The decision suddenly wasn’t difficult anymore.
It had already been made by JoJo.
On Father’s Day, Jeff signed the adoption papers, and Jolene Ginger officially became our daughter forever.
Looking back now, I don’t think JoJo ever came to A5 to be fostered.
I think she came home.
Some dogs come into your life for a season.
Some come to change your life forever.
Welcome home, our sweet JoJo. You were worth every tear, every worry, every prayer and every second of waiting.
You were never meant to belong to anyone else.
You were always meant to be ours. ❤️

1/17/26 INTRODUCTION ~ Please welcome Jolene Ginger to our rescue family!

She’s a very sensitive soul, and while we can’t know her full past, it’s possible she experienced some rough moments before rescue. Even so, Jolene Ginger remains incredibly trusting and genuinely eager to please. She meets the world with a gentle heart.
Jolene Ginger is also wonderful with cats, making her a lovely fit for a calm, patient home that will cherish her sweet nature.
1/24/26 UPDATE ~ From he foster momma: Miss Jolene Ginger has officially been in our foster home, A5 Ranch, for one week, and y’all… she is pure gold. 💛
She is the sweetest soul. So respectful, gentle and clearly just wants to please. She’s really starting to fill out nicely now, and that bony little backbone we first noticed is gone (thank goodness). Instead, she’s sporting a much healthier look and a whole lot more confidence.
Her favorite pastime? Rolling right over for belly rubs. I check her daily for a “mean bone” (you know, just in case 😉), and all we can say is: this girl does not have one. Not a single mean bone anywhere in that precious body.
Jolene Ginger clearly had a rough start in life. She came to us with a broken jaw, but don’t let that fool you. It doesn’t slow her down one bit. She eats, plays and loves like a champ. She adores the dogs, is completely unbothered by the cats and while she’s very curious about the chickens… we think she might prefer to play just a little too rough with them. 😄
Jolene Ginger is everything we love about this breed: resilient, loving, goofy and endlessly grateful. Watching her blossom this week has been such a joy, and we can’t wait to see what the next chapter holds for this special girl.
