Kona

Kona

9/1/25 AWESOME ADOPTION ALERT! From volunteer Dianne: When Kona first came into rescue, his heartbreak was obvious. He had lost the only family he’d ever known, and grief settled over him like a heavy blanket. He spent his days lying in his crate with the door open, but his back turned to the world. He wasn’t angry. He wasn’t acting out. He was just… existing. And it was heartbreaking to watch.

But everything changed with one unexpected moment.

Yolanda happened to be at the vet, picking up one of her Bulldogs, when Mona introduced her to Kona and said, “This is the Bulldog for you.” And as it turns out, Mona was absolutely right.

Yolanda and Daniel are lifelong dog lovers, and their home is a haven for dogs with big personalities and even bigger hearts, like Betty, the blind and deaf Boston Terrier, Helen, the regal white Bulldog, and Archie, the lovable floor-hog. This fur-filled family lives with intention and love—childless by choice, their dogs are their world.

And Kona? He fit in instantly.

Gone is the quiet, withdrawn boy who barely lifted his head. Today, he’s all joy, zooming through the house like his tail’s on fire, playing with toys, enjoying treats and soaking up the love he so deeply deserves.

This adoption was more than a happy ending. It was a new beginning for a dog who almost gave up. One of the best adoptions yet. 💙

7/20/25 INTRODUCTION:  Please welcome Kona to our rescue family! From his foster momma: His family made the incredibly difficult decision to surrender him as they were going their separate ways and could no longer give him the time and attention he deserves. It was clear Kona was deeply loved, and letting him go was heartbreaking—but it was also an act of compassion, with his best future in mind.

Kona is 4 (almost 5) years old, and he’s a sturdy, handsome guy weighing around 70 lbs. Within the first day of being in our home, I could tell he’s an absolute sweetheart—calm, affectionate and full of love.

He’s well-mannered and doesn’t jump up, knows how to sit and shake, and rode like a pro in the car on the way home. He’s already getting along great with his playful foster sister, although he prefers to keep things chill while she tries to roughhouse. Kona is a cuddle bug at heart—he loves being near his humans and is a big fan of butt scratches!

We’re not ready to say he’s a cat lover just yet, but when he encountered the resident feline, he didn’t react at all—not even a tail twitch. His coat is beautiful, his skin looks healthy, and he’ll be heading to the vet tomorrow for a full checkup and a much-needed nail trim.

Kona has a funny quirk—he seems reluctant to step on grass, preferring to do his business right at the edge of the concrete. 🤷‍♀️

This sweet boy is already soaking up the love in his foster home as he waits for a perfectly matched adopter who’ll give him the life he deserves. 💙
