Maize

Maize

After almost six months in her foster home, this little cutie found her forever home. Maize really left a print on our hearts. When she first arrived, she was scared, stinky and so unsure of herself. It was a joy to watch her find confidence and learn to be a dog. She now has the perfect family to help her grow ~ two wonderful parents, two fur brothers and even some chickens. We’re so happy for her!

My life has been forever changed.

I used to live a sad life of having litter after litter of puppies. But thanks to a bunch of hard work by some very special people, I ~ along with several of my friends ~ made it into rescue.

Even though I’m feeling nervous, I can already feel so much love. Everyone keeps telling me how beautiful and loved I am.

I’ve been given a bath and a soft bed. I’ve met some really nice Bulldogs who will be my new roommates. They all welcomed me with gentle sniffs.

Today, I’ll be having a spa day and some work on my “ouchie” feet. I think I have what they call crate foot. My nails are long, toes splayed and pads are soft and mushy.

I’m excited to visit Dr. Larsen, so she can give me a good once over and officially put those baby-making days behind me.

I’m as sweet as they come and already loving my new life. I’m so thankful to everyone who’s made my dreams come true.

9/19/22 Update:  It’s been one whole week since my life changed for the better. And what a week it’s been!

I was pretty scared when I first arrived at my foster home. I’m working hard at gaining my confidence. I still don’t like going out opened doors, but I will come back in all by myself.

I’ve discovered toys and I really like them. I’ve already picked out my favorite.

My most exciting new find has been the couch. I really like it. I like it so much that I’ll bark all night unless I’m allowed to sleep on it. Yep, you heard that right. I no longer sleep in a crate. Only couch life for me.

We also started this thing called leash training. It’s overrated. I’m fine with being carried.

To end my first week, I got to go visit the infamous Doc Larsen. She’s a magician. She knew everything I needed to make me feel brand new. Soon, I’ll no longer have ear and tail infections. Plus, she’s going to end my baby-making days and fix my hernia. Woohoo! Only the good life from here on out.

9/26/22 Update:   Maize’s been in her foster home for two weeks. She’s really starting to settle in and overcome some fears. Loud noises and fast movements still make her nervous.

Accomplishments this week include walking out the backdoor by herself twice. She’s still needing to be coaxed or carried out the majority of the time. She’ll walk back in all by herself every time now.

She’s finally starting to understand treats. We’ve tried all kinds of yummy snacks. Cheese is the only thing she’ll take every time. Yesterday, she ate a Beggin’ strip for the first time. She’s about 75% potty trained.

This sweet girl loves to cuddle and get attention. Her fur is so so soft and she gives the best kisses.

10/3/22 Update:  Maize started last week off with a trip to the vet to be spayed, have her hernia repaired and her tail removed. She’s been recovering comfortably back at her foster home.

She’s coming out of her shell more and more. She loves a good chew on one of the toys laying around. She’ll take a few steps on a leash, but prefers to just stand still.

She’s become much more comfortable moving around the house and she really loves getting attention. She’s oh-so sweet and her fur is as soft as silk.

10/10/22 Update:  This has been such an exciting week for Maize. She’s really coming out of her shell and learning to be a dog.

She’s walking better on the leash. It’s still a chase to get the collar and leash on her. Once she’s outside, she loves taking in all the smells.

She’s been having playtime with Foster Mom’s grand pup. She’s really started to love this time. We love seeing her zoom around having fun.

10/17/22 Update:   Maize had another fantastic week. She’s loving her walks, had less accidents in the house and has claimed the nest bed as hers. She likes to store all her favorite things in it too. She really is the sweetest. She can’t wait to make her first appearance at Campisi’s!

11/3/22 Update:  Maize’s been promoted to Office Manager. One of the perks is nap time.

11/7/22 Update:  It’s been eight weeks since Maize left the puppy mill and her life changed forever. She’s come a really long during this short time.

She now walks like a champ on a leash. She potties outside most of the time. She has learned to play and enjoy toys. She sleeps in her nest or on the couch. She’s cat- and dog-friendly. She loves anyone who will give her attention and has done great around kids. She can still be scared by fast movements and loud noises, so we’re working on building her confidence.

This sweet, sweet girl would do great in a home with a playful energetic dog to keep teaching her the ways to be a dog.

11/30/22 Update:   Even though the weather has been dreary, I’ve been having so much fun! You see, my best friend had been over to visit three ttimes this week. I love it so much when he comes over. We play hard, then nap hard. I live with two old guys and they’re nice and all, but really boring. It’s eat, sleep, poop for these guys. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not super active. I just like to get a little energy out. If you have a furry friend that needs a friend, I may be your match!

12/20/22 Update:  Maize continues to thrive in her foster mom. She’s becoming more and more comfortable with all the things that go with living in a home. Her favorite time of day continues to be meal times. She’s won’t let you be a minute late. She’s the cutest.

12/26/22 Update:  I’m hoping everyone had a wonderful Christmas. Even though Santa didn’t bring me my forever home, my day was great. My best friend visited and we enjoyed lots of great food and cuddles.

Foster Mom told me that when you’re wanting the best, it’s worth the wait. So I’ll keep waiting for the best family for me. I’m sweet as can be and I love kids, cats, dogs, you name it. I could be your perfect match!

1/4/23 Update:  Happy New Year! I had a hard time keeping my eyes open to welcome in the New Year. I just know 2023 will bring a new furever family for me. Today, I’ll be enjoying some sunbathing and dreaming of my new family.

1/19/23 Update:  Maize is still doing great in her foster home. She gains confidence daily and loves her daily walks. She hasn’t met a stranger and loves everyone and everything.

She’s still working on her potty training. She does great most days, then surprises you with a puddle. She needs a family who will be patient with her.

She loves to cuddle and has the softest fur.
