Merle Haggard

Merle Haggard

Just wanted to let you know what I got for Christmas… I got my furever family. That’s right ~ I have my new home and I now have two dads! Talk about hitting the jackpot! It was totally worth the wait. I am going to make them so proud of me.

Foster Mom and Dad shed a few tears when I left, but they knew that I was going to be so very happy with my new family. I thanked them and said I’ll always love them, but it was time for me to go to my new home. I will not be singing anymore sad songs ~ just happy tunes from here on out!

Someone yelled “Rescue wagon’s here!” and all I knew was that I was going. I was leaving, even though some people were not so sure.

You see, the rescue wagon holds three crates and I was Bulldog number four. Guess who drew the short straw? Me. There was no crate for me and I was going to have to wait for a while. In the back of my mind, I kept thinking, “Just open that door one more time and I am out of here. “

And just like magic, the rescue lady opened the door to get a bottle of water and that’s all it took. I jumped in and I held on for dear life. I wrapped my paws around the head rest and the rest is history. I was leaving the Smoky Mountains behind and I was headed west.

The ride was long and I stood up the entire way! I laughed, I sneezed, I licked some ears, I was smelling hairspray and I was “IN LOVE.” I was so happy. While the other Bulldogs barked, cried and paced, I stood stoic, looking straight ahead, thinking about my new life, my new family… and the fact that I was almost in the front seat and I could sing the loudest!

My name is Merle Haggard and I’m 1 year old. Follow me through rescue and watch me find my perfect furever family!

10/3/22 Update:  In my foster home, I have two fur sisters and one skin sister. They all love me, of course! I get along great with all of them.

I’m living in an apartment and learning how to walk on a leash. I do really well, except when I see a squirrel. Then all bets are off. I just can’t help myself! They chatter at me and then I have to run to see what they are saying.

If you are interested in a handsome young man, I may be your guy! I’ll start looking through the résumés to find the best home for me. I’m looking forward to meeting my new mom and dad. Hurry up… I am not a patient guy!

11/1/22 Update:  Good morning all. Merle Haggard here checking in. Things are going pretty well for me here in my foster home. Dad just got me some BIG tennis balls to play with. I would really like to see those tennis racquets some day, but wow these big tennis balls are sure fun! My best friend Sadie and I play and play and play, then grab a quick nap and play again. I get along with other dogs so well, I just love everyone, except squirrels. I really like to chase them, maybe if I could ever catch one, I could make friends with him as well. I have been getting ready to go to my forever home, so if you need a handsome, sweet, playful loving pup, I am definitely your man! Hope to meet you soon, love Merle.

11/7/22 Update:  II’m working on getting ready for my new furever home.

My foster sister and I are exercising by wrestling! Of course, I always win, but I sometimes let her think that she wins. I am such a gentleman! Everyone tells me that, and how handsome I am. I try not to get a big head with all the compliments.  Everyone that meets me when I am walking my foster dad says how handsome I am.

I love a good walk, a long play and a longer belly rub! If I sound like your kind of guy, I may be your perfect match.

12/13/22 Update:  I am patiently waiting for my perfect furever home. I know that I am loveable (Foster Dad and Mom tell me that every day) and that I am fun and kind of cute (some would say handsome).

I am a young man, full of energy and playfulness. I get along with my foster sister and just about everyone I meet (except squirrels ~ I just cannot figure those dudes out!). Maybe one day, I can finally catch one and ask him some questions. As for now, they keep running away from me, but that is another story.

I really, really would like to have a home for Christmas. Maybe my dream will come true!

12/20/22 Update:  Shhhhhh! I am eavesdropping on Foster Mom and Dad. They are saying that they will have to pack up my toys and get everything ready to move after Christmas. If this is what I think it is, I am going to be so happy!

You see, I met these two really, really nice guys the other day and they fell in love with me! Of course, they did. I am totally lovable and soooo good looking!

Well, don’t tell Foster Mom and Dad, but they asked me if I would come and live with them. I said I would if I could stay forever. And they said,  “Of course, forever. We love you!”

They hated to leave me behind, but they had to go out of town for Christmas. They promised to hurry back and get me. I am so excited. Just what I wanted for Christmas: a furever home.

I hate to leave Foster Dad, Mom and Sis, and my fur sisters, but I really want a family of my very own and to never have to move away again.

Thank you, Lone Star Bulldog Club Rescue, for coming to my rescue and helping me find my new family. I will send pictures when my new dads get back and pick me up!
