Mary and Cort are no strangers to bulldogs or broken hearts. They have had both. Adopted Iris passed away and recently adopted Buttercup crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Tears fell like rain.
Without warning Buttercup went to sleep and was gone during the night. We all know that feeling. The one where you can’t breathe, and you can’t stop the tears. We vent, we ask why now, it’s not fair, I can’t deal with another broken heart.
And then we see the bulldog that takes our breath away—the one that reminds of the one that passed away. Same size, same color, same personality, and we think to ourselves, “Well maybe.” Maybe we can love again. And here is the result.
Mary holding adopted Mr. Lincoln, Cort holding adopted Charlie and Miss Myrtle. And things are better now. That doesn’t mean we forget the ones that have gone, it means we are meant to continue to love and help the ones that are here that need us the most.
Rescue means everything to Mary and Cort, and Mary and Cort mean everything to the bulldogs they rescue. Miss Myrtle you have hit solid gold.
I felt just like Miley Cyrus when I came into rescue like a wrecking ball! You see, I’ve been dreaming about 2024 for a long time. And I know it’s going to be the best year of my life. Are you pumped up too?
My name is Miss Myrtle and in December, I turned 2. I’ve already had some babies ~ they were perfect and so cute. But you can say I was “one and done!” I have too much living to do to be tied down to motherhood.
So, I packed my backpack, headed out the door and hitched a ride south. My new friend who picked me up took me to her vet and made sure my baby-making days were over forever. Then I started having spa days with medicated baths. She also thought I wanted my nails polished. I really didn’t ~ I just wanted a nail trim. That’s fine though because now I’m the look of perfection. Not a hair out of place.
I joined rescue not just for me, but to help heal some broken hearts. I know I’m just the little lady to make that happen, today the first day of 2024. Let’s make this OUR year!
