Nala Nicole

Nala Nicole

6/23/25 AWESOME ADOPTION ALERT! From the pops: Our gentle, sweet Nala Nicole came into rescue in January 2024 under heartbreaking circumstances. Her beloved owner had passed away—she was his everything—and suddenly, she found herself confused and alone in a new world.

That’s when Casa de Meza opened their hearts and home to her. Though unsure at first, Nala Nicole quickly settled into a comforting routine. She claimed a large, perfectly positioned ottoman in the center of the home where she could see everything and everyone. It became her royal perch, where she kept watch over her new kingdom.

Every day, she waited faithfully for her foster dad to come home, ready for her favorite part of the day: belly rubs and undivided attention. She soaked up the love she had been missing, but nothing made her happier than the 6 p.m. laundry ritual. Warm towels straight from the dryer were her bliss—I would drape them gently over her, and she would snuggle in, eyes half-closed in perfect contentment.

But Nala Nicole was still searching for her home. Despite sharing updates and reaching out to the public, we couldn’t find her an applicant who would be a good match for her. Most applicants want younger dogs, active companions or playmates for their pups. Nala Nicole isn’t any of those things. She is calm, older, and just wanted a soft place to land.

Finally, in October 2024, a glimmer of hope arrived. A kind family reached out, understanding that Nala Nicole might not be playful—but hoping she would bond with their other Bulldog as a cuddle companion. In November, they adopted Nala Nicole.

But sometimes, even with the best intentions, things don’t work out. In her new home, Nala Nicole began having multiple accidents in the house—something completely out of character for her. She stopped engaging, began shutting down emotionally, and would lie in a corner, distant and despondent.

The family, heartbroken and concerned, made the tough call to return her. After I picked her up, she came back, stepped into the house and ran straight to her ottoman. No hesitation. No accidents. It was like she had never left.

It became clear—Casa de Meza wasn’t just her foster home. It was her home.

I couldn’t bear to put her through another transition ~ I saw what her heart had already decided. And so, with open arms and a full heart, we made it official.
Nala Nicole is home.

She’ll spend her days doing what she loves—lounging like royalty on her ottoman, getting her warm laundry snuggles, and knowing she is deeply, unconditionally loved.

Welcome home, Nala Nicole

INTRODUCTION: Bulldog family my name is Nala Nicole, and I am 8 years young.

Everyone has a story and the family that dropped me off at Bright Star wrote several pages about me so everyone would know my story. When I was a younger lady, I lived with a breeder, and I had babies every now and then. Then at the age of 4 my breeder knew I was ready to retire, and they knew who needed me.  Let’s call that person Pa!

It was love at first sight when Pa saw me. We became inseparable. Mornings were spent on the front porch rocking and watching the world go by.  Then there was TV time, followed by supper time and then bedtime. Pa told me all his secrets. Pa’s wife had died a while back and he was so sad. He told me every day how much he loved me and what a great friend I had become.

Pa would always defend me when people came over and wanted to talk about my weight. He would always tell them to take a good look in the mirror because they could stand to lose some weight too, and Pa and I would have a belly laugh.

And then the worst day of my life happened. Pa died! Pa died the first week of January. And I became a ward of the family. And they loved me. Five times a day they came and sat with me and fed me and we talked about Pa.  And they knew Pa’s last wish was they would find me a family who loved bulldogs—thick ones.

So here I am joining rescue. Once again I’m looking for another wonderful family who will love me like Pa did.

I wrote a letter to my next family, and it has more information that I didn’t tell you today. One thing is I had a cat, Mr. Tom, and we cleaned each others face.

I will be at Bright Star getting some medical things addressed, but then get ready everyone. Nala Nicole will be looking to be someone’s Valentine and if you are lucky enough it might just be you!

2/9/24 Update:  My name is Nala.  I enter my foster home yesterday.  I have to say it’s a busy foster home. I received the royal treatment and adjusting to my new home.  I’m recovering from my surgery for the next two weeks.  Bed rest and soft food is the diagnosis.  Here are a few pick of my giant 52”x52” bed.  They even got me some comfy pillows to support my head and back.  I’ll check back soon.

2/16/24 Update:  We all know doing laundry is a big task. If you are looking for the sweetest helper, Nala Nicole has you covered. She is naturally warm, which will save you money ~ you won’t need to set your dryer to wrinkle-free. She comes with an abundance of wrinkles and gives out kisses with everything you fold I see this as a win/win situation. Better hurry or she might be gone. Volunteers are standing by to review your app. You may be her match!

2/29/24 Update:  Nala is settling into her foster home. Her priority is to make sure laundry is done daily. She loves to be covered in the warm towels. She believes feeding time is the best time of the day! She has excellent behavior and going potty outside is a must for her. She seeks belly rubs often and will roll over on command.

6/7/24 Update:  I’ve been snoozing away with all this rain coming through. It’s not like I need any extra beauty sleep. I’m a full-figured gal who needs a good place to call my own. I’m not very active and that’s fine by me. I love to cuddle and give out kisses and more kisses. I am looking for someone who can give me belly rubs galore. Maybe I’d be a perfect fit for you!

6/27/24 Update:  Now that the heat is too much for my beautiful skin, I have been relaxing in my spot. I do make sure I get up when it’s time to eat. My favorite pastime is watching all the other pups play.

I’m really still looking for a family who will love me. There have been a few inquiries, but I hear I’m either too old or too full figured. Oh well. I know the right family is still out there.

Until then, I have my foster dad wrapped around my paw. He gives me lots of belly rubs, kisses and treats. I guess I’ll keep living this “hard” life until my very own family finds me.

7/11/24 Update:  I had a great week of resting and spending time with my foster dad. I ventured out of my comfort zone and got on the family couch with him finally. I was used to watching the other pups next to him, so I decided I wanted to join the crew. Here are some up close pics of my good sides.

7/25/24 Update:  Oh, how I love my Sundays. Foster Pops is home and I crave that extra attention from him. I saw him sneaking some pics of me, so I wanted to sit up and give a proper pose. The cold tile also is a favorite of mine. I mean who doesn’t like a cool belly during the heat of the Texas summer?

8/14/24 Update:  Trying to get Nala out of bed for her first day of school is a bit challenging. We gave her a note book to write down all of her experiences. She keeps telling me that nap time will be her best subject. I’m convinced she is going to get a gold star in that course.

8/22/24 Update:  My first week of home school went great. I met plenty of other furry things who are smaller than me. I seem to be a big hit with them. They love that I’m so sweet to them! I’m already looking forward to next week.

8/29/24 Update:  I am excited for school tomorrow. It’s show-and-tell day and I get to bring my baby Simba. I love my baby and she loves me.  It’s so nice to have her lay in my paws and we take so many naps together. I think she will be a big hit with everyone. What are some of the items you took to show-and-tell when you were in school?
