Otis Redding

Otis Redding

Adoption days are truly the BEST days in rescue. Our volunteers put in so much effort—from the initial intake and vet treatments to showing our dogs what love and family really mean.

The highlight of all this hard work is the ADOPTION DAY, and it’s a moment we definitely need to celebrate. Cue the music, get on your feet, and let’s give a big round of applause for another life saved!

A huge shoutout to foster pops Jose and his family for giving Otis Redding a wonderful new chapter in his life.

Otis Redding first came into rescue back in March. He spent his early life tied to a tree, unable to walk more than a few steps, and with only minimal food and water. His condition was dire—his eyes were in bad shape, he had blood in his urine, and he was filthy. But thanks to our dedicated volunteers, those days are behind him. HIGH FIVES all around!

Otis Redding wondered if anyone would ever notice that he spent his days tied to a tree in the backyard. He couldn’t remember doing anything wrong. This just seemed to be his fate.

Other than freedom, Otis wanted to take a bath, have someone wipe his eyes and figure out why his private parts smelled bad. He urine also had blood in it, so he really needed to see a vet. He wanted to feel better again and find a family who will love him forever. After all, he’s still very young ~ only about a year old.

Otis could still remember when he was a puppy and his family carried him around like he was a pot of gold. Then, as he grew up, everyone seemed to pay less and less attention to him. Before long, they moved him outside.

He was miserable just sitting and walking a few steps this way, then a few steps that way. He felt lucky when he got fed and was given water. That definitely wasn’t a daily occurrence. His closest friends were the flies who wouldn’t leave him alone.

But Otis Redding’s story doesn’t end tied to a tree, thankfully.

A neighbor knew Otis deserved a better life. After lots of discussions, Otis got to leave the tree, the family and his terrible life behind.

Otis Redding has a lot of puppy in him. He has a huge desire to play and needs to learn how to become a member of a family. But Otis is ready to learn. His perfect family will be one willing to love and train him for a success future.

6/14/24 Update:   This sweet dude is still very much a big puppy. He needs some work on his manners, but thankfully, he’s receptive to training. We don’t think he’s ever had anyone to spend time with, but he has been learning so much in his time at the vet clinic. He’s a big fan of Benebones and appreciates his “good boy!” snack rewards. He needs an active home with older kiddos.

7/11/24 Update:  Otis Redding is feeling good, and looking fresh and clean after his bath.
