It’s hard to write an adoption story without remembering the past.
I was super excited when Jennifer reached out to share that their family was ready to adopt a Bulldog again.
Jennifer and Justin had been a part of rescue a few years back and fostered several Bulldogs for us.
Then the unthinkable happened.
Their 2-year-old daughter, Ellie, died in a tragic accident. Life, as they knew it, ceased to exist.
Fast forward four years, this beloved family is back and they decided to adopt
Reggie Lewis.
Reggie Lewis now has Justin as his dad, Jennifer as his mom, brothers Ethan and Barret, and a little sister, Claire. He also joins two Great Danes, a shepherd mix, and an adult sloth that did not fit in the picture.
It was love at first sight when the family met Reggie Lewis. He walked in like he had lived there forever. Reggie Lewis is one of those Bulldogs who has been loved every day of his life, but due to unforeseen circumstances, he needed a new family.
And the rest is history.
Reggie now lives in the country, surrounded by bison, donkeys, cows, sheep, emus…. and that sloth who lives in the house with him!
The presence of Ellie is everywhere ~ in everything there that is good and beautiful and never to be forgotten.
There have been some changes in my home. And, as you know, a lot of things everyone thinks will last forever, don’t always end up that way.
Truthfully, it was one of the worst days for my family as I started gathering up my things.
There were clothes, toys, beds and balls. My rolling bin of dog food was a must. Plus, my brushes and beauty products had to go and don’t forget my special car bed that allows me to see out the window. In fact, when I was ready to go, there were two cars full of all my things.
But you know what I left behind? I left behind my family’s broken hearts. I was the last thing they ever thought would need to go. But like I said, what was supposed to be “forever,” had come to an end and things were changing.
There were hugs and kisses and a lot of “I love you” and “we will never forget you.” My life ~ all 16 months of it ~ has been filled with walks and excellent vet care. I was my family’s first Bulldog ~ and I was perfect to them. I was loved ~ always have been and always will be, thanks to rescue.
Do you know I can sit for a treat and shake your hand? I’ve got skills! I am everything anyone could ask for.
1/11/24 Update: This super handsome pup will bring life to any party! He’s curious and always ready to play. He’s potty trained, and hasn’t played with anything he shouldn’t. He’d love a home with other playful pups. Because he’s strong and on the go, he’s better suited for a home with older children.
