Rocky Austin

Rocky Austin

Goodbye rescue and hello world. Today is my reason to celebrate. Today is my adoption day! That’s right… I have a new family and I am moving on up.

For 30 days and 30 nights, I have watched Bulldogs come and go. I have watched everyone run, play and jump in the splash pad, while I rested and recovered from heartworm treatment. It was rough. I cried and I moaned, but nope… I just had to watch from the window.

My Foster Mom would tell me every day how many days of rest I had left to endure. We would talk about my new family and everything I was going to get to do and everywhere I would be able to go. It made resting easier, but 30 days is a long time to just sit and watch.

Look at me now with my new dad, Todd,  and my new mom, Tobi. We look like a perfect family! I have a new brother also, another Bulldog, Chuy. He doesn’t travel well, so he stayed home, but he knows all about me. And we are going to be best friends. Chuy loves to play and so do I.

I packed my favorite things to play with and I packed some for Chuy too. So, so long rescue. It’s  been fun, but I am out of here and I won’t be coming back.

What a sad day indeed. But, you know, life happens and sometimes you can’t fix a situation. You just have to make do with what you are given and pray for the best outcome.
My family has been teetering on the edge of surrendering me for a while now, and they finally came to the decision that they would do what was best for me. We stayed up all night crying and wiping away the tears, but this morning, I packed my food and a couple medications, and I was out the door.
The only reason I am here is because my family had to move into an RV park and talk around the park is that residents should expect rolling black outs and hours without air conditioning this summer. My ears perked up when I heard that. Having no air conditioning in the Texas heat was just not going to work for me. Our home is small, and it will get hot fast. I heard a lot of “what if’s” and “what might happen?” And I thought, “Please let me go because heat and I don’t mix.” With my family being new to the area, there was really no one who could check on me during those hot July days.
I have been to the skin doctor and I take a pill for itching, and I use a special medicated shampoo. I also need a little snip snip to alter my ego. The worst part is I tested positive for heartworms. Believe me, everyone was shocked. But with the confusion of leaving our home, I had to have missed a heartworm pill. I hear it only takes one missed dose and one mosquito bite and the rest in history. I am only a “light positive,” but a positive is a positive. I am sure not looking forward to that treatment, but heartworms are serious and I am all about getting healthy.
I am 5 years and 5 months old. I love all other dogs and my family had kids and I loved them too. So, follow me through my stay in rescue and watch for pics of my new family when I celebrate my adoption day.
6/7/21 Update: Foster boy Rocky Austin decided to pack his bags, leave the vet clinic and come visit Sir S’mores A’lot’s Bulldog BnB. He’s super excited. And really loves riding in the car!
6/10/21 Update:  Rocky Austin has been here a few days. So far, so good. He and S’mores get along great. But they don’t get too play much. S’mores only has one speed and it’s more than Rocky can take while he’s recovering. Rocky really wants to join the play babies and have fun though. Just a few more days big boy. Then you’ll be all recovered and you can play too.
6/17/21 Update:  Rocky Austin is the ideal house guest. He’s already fully kennel trained and really just wants to be in your presence while he sleeps. He’d really love it if he could play with the other boys, but he has to wait a few more days.
6/21/21 Update:  He’s settling into his foster home nicely. He saw the doc on Friday to get out his stitches and have some other issues checked. Overall, he’s doing great. He is completely crate trained and does great with both S’mores and Trucker. He likes to go in the playpen with S’mores sometimes. He’s also perfectly content to spend the whole day sleeping in his room. He’s not a picky eater. He’s loved every treat he’ been given. He doesn’t mind bath day at all. He really loves getting his ears rubbed with a cleaning cloth at night. Not a big fan of face washes, but with a treat he’ll tolerate just about everything.
6/28/21 Update:  From the foster momma of Sir S’mores A’Lot, Trucker and Rocky Austin: Everyone is getting along fairly well. Trucker is really loving having all the play time. Almost as much as he loves all the nap time!
