Rooney Doyle came to me a few weeks ago skinny, shy (but very sweet) and just unsure about things.
Rooney Doyle had a sad beginning to life. Before Lone Star Bulldog Club Rescue, he had been adopted from North Texas, then lived in Kansas…. but then once again found himself at a shelter. That’s when our group got involved to help him.
Yesterday, lots of happy tears were shed as Rooney Doyle left our home. He’s now a confident boy who is ready for his next chapter in life.
Rooney Doyle was adopted by the most amazing family. He’s heading to south Texas Hill Country where he will have acres o explore, home cooked meals, a soft warm bed and lots of love.
He now has a Bulldog sister and Lone Star Bulldog Club Rescue alumna, Maize, and a Great Dane brother. I’m not gonna lie ~ it sounded so amazing, I almost jumped in the truck too.
I will miss Rooney Doyle so much, but these are the moments that make fostering so special. Seeing your foster dog have a happy ending knowing he will be loved and cherished.
Rooney Doyle has had more homes than any pup should! His life started in North Texas where he ended up at a local shelter. A nice lady temporarily fostered him from the shelter until a more permanent home was found.
It wasn’t long when a nice family in Kansas wanted to adopt him. Rooney Doyle packed his bags and headed North. Rooney Doyle loved his new family but it wasn’t long when his family was in a terrible car accident. Rooney was taken to a local shelter. Luckily the family hadn’t had time to change his chip information and the shelter reached out to the original temporary foster and she made arrangements to go pick him up. When his temporary foster got him, she knew something was wrong with him, she also knew that he needed more help than she was able to give him so she reached out to rescue.
Rooney is currently resting at the vet where is getting some testing to see what is going on with him. Please welcome Rooney Doyle to rescue.
3/7/25 Update: I just have to say, Rooney Doyle is an absolute heartthrob! Despite being a bit on the skinny side, he’s a big guy! He was so full of joy that he couldn’t sit still for a picture—he’s that happy! He’s still under care at the vet’s office, but he’s doing really well. We’ll need to keep an eye on him with some follow-up visits to monitor his kidney function, but so far, so good! He’s on medication for his kidneys and will stay at the vet until his 14-day recheck. These are the best of the photos we could get…haha. Honestly, pictures don’t even do this boy justice!
3/20/25 Update: Rooney Doyle is the sweetest boy and man, is he handsome! Rooney is considered to be between stage 2/3 kidney failure. He’s on meds to help his kidney function and his labs continue to improve each time he’s checked!
3/26/25 Update: When I first saw a picture of Rooney Doyle, I couldn’t get over how adorable he is, but let me tell you—photos just don’t do him justice! He’s the absolute cutest squishy boy with the sweetest, most expressive face.
Rooney Doyle is a big guy—currently considered underweight at 70 lbs.—but he’s still got plenty of love to give. As a gentle giant, it’s important to help him learn his manners, especially due to his size. We’re currently working on personal space and teaching him to sit nicely for treats (his “snapping turtle” days are behind him!). He’s a fast learner, and I’m happy to report he’s already made fantastic progress. His favorite late-night snack? Peanut butter pretzels—he’s got excellent taste!
Rooney Doyle is doing amazing with potty training too. He’s had no accidents in the past five days and is quickly getting the hang of it. He’s also crate-trained and sleeps soundly through the night.
At heart, Rooney is a true couch potato. He has a calm, laid-back demeanor and loves being around people. He’s great with kids and gets along well with his resident Bulldog brother. Rooney Doyle enjoys his walks and is not reactive to other dogs, making him a chill companion on outings.
All in all, Rooney Doyle is a loveable, mellow giant who just wants to be part of a family. He’s ready to snuggle, learn, and bring tons of joy into someone’s life.
