Saint (now Pretzel)

Saint (now Pretzel)

We were Saint’s foster family and were in love the first moment we saw him.  Overly friendly, he had lost a significant amount of hair.  He had unique personality quirks.  We didn’t know if there would be a special family that would be a perfect fit for our guy Saint.  We had fallen in love with the sweet, friendly doofus.  Little did we know that the flawless blend was just around the corner.

We got a call from Ashley and Hans.  There was not a more perfect fit.  They were a very active family, highly experienced with love bugs with special needs.  Ashley made the arrangement to meet at a local Petsmart.  We just couldn’t believe that an adoptive family would be special enough to take Saint (soon to be Pretzel) but we could not have been more wrong.  They had Saint’s two new siblings with them.  There could not be a more  perfect matching. The three love bugs kind of did a lifted chin and a “whassup.”

Ashley and Hans had a home that would be perfect for Saint (now Pretzel).  We walked out to the cars with Ashley and Hans and their merry band of pups.  We were just a bit heartbroken, but the perfect match had been made for our sweet Saint.  We’re lucky enough to get occasional updates from Ashley and Hans but now we’re on to more memories which our new foster Lady Lily.

Without a doubt, Saint knew no one would come to claim him at the local shelter. After all, who would want to touch a dog in such rough shape? You could smell the infection from several feet away.

Despite it all, Saint is just a big puppy with a tough start to life. He’s scratched himself raw in places until his skin bled, and some areas are completely without fur. Both of his eyes and ears are infected, yet through all the pain and neglect, he remains as sweet as can be.

When Saint arrived at the vet clinic yesterday, he was filled with excitement, knowing this was the place where he would finally find comfort. Dr. Larsen believes he’s around a year old, though he could be younger.

The best news? Dr. Larsen assured Saint that by the time he leaves the vet clinic, he’ll have a shiny new coat, healthy eyes, and will feel like a brand-new Bulldog. That was music to Saint’s ears—and he gave a high-five to Dr. Larsen, letting her know that was exactly what he wanted to hear!
