12/7/25 AWESOME ADOPTION ALERT times two! From the foster momma: We’re still celebrating here ~ Tanner Slick-a-lick and Lincoln Adam officially headed to New Mexico yesterday! Their wonderful new family came to pick them up, and the boys are already settling into their new home.
They also have a new sister, Daisy the Yorkie, who’s ready to keep these two handsome gentlemen in line and out of trouble. 😉
Lincoln Adam was so excited that he tried to volunteer as the driver for the road trip, but his mom reminded him he’d need a driver’s license… so he happily settled into the back seat instead.
I made sure they left with all their essentials, plus a special ornament for each boy to hang on their new family’s Christmas tree. ❤️🌟
Safe travels, Tanner Slick-a-lick and Lincoln Adam! New Mexico just got a whole lot sweeter.

6/22/25 INTRODUCTION: Meet Tanner Slick-a-lick — a true survivor with a heart of gold.
Earlier this month, Tanner Slick-a-lick was picked up by animal services after suffering from a severe heat stroke. When he arrived, his temperature was a dangerously high 105.2°F. He was immediately given fluids and oxygen, and thankfully, his temperature slowly began to come down. This all unfolded on June 6, and until just Friday, he remained in the shelter hospital recovering.
Tanner Slick-a-lick’s condition was heartbreaking. Fleas covered his body so thoroughly that every time we parted his fur, more appeared. His ears had been cropped so short that he constantly shook his head in discomfort. But after a good cleaning and some medication, the head-shaking finally stopped.
As for his tongue — it hangs out constantly, possibly a side effect of the heat stroke. Though he has teeth that could hold it in, we’re not quite sure why it stays out. What we do know is this: Tanner Slick-a-lick is one of the sweetest, most gentle souls you’ll ever meet. Submissive and calm when approached, he radiates a quiet resilience.
We estimate Tanner Slick-a-lick’s age to be about 7 years old. However old he is, he’s clearly been through a lot — and he deserves a fresh start filled with comfort, kindness and love.
9/6/25 UPDATE: From Tanner Slick-a-lick’s foster momma: It’s been a little while since we’ve heard from Tanner, but he wants everyone to know he’s doing great!
While he’s learning to enjoy the foster life, what Tanner Slick-a-lick really dreams of is a home to call his own.
Stay tuned. We know his perfect match is out there!
9/21/25 UDPATE: From the foster momma: Tanner Slick-a-lick is doing well. He’s a sweet soul with so much love to give. He’s a big fan of squeaky toys and loves playtime with his foster buddy, Ev, the foster family’s fun-loving 10-year-old granddaughter. Their bond is the kind that melts your heart.
When he’s not playing, Tanner Slick-a-lick is all about the cozy life. In the evenings, you’ll find him curled up on the bed with his foster parents, happily soaking in the calm while they watch TV.
Tanner Slick-a-lick is the perfect blend of playful and peaceful, and he’s patiently waiting for the right family to fall in love with him.
10/22/25 UPDATE: We’re working to find a great family for Tanner Slick-a-lick! He writes: I’ve been living with my amazing foster family for a while now, and while I’ve been enjoying all the love and attention, I think I’m ready to find a home to call my own.
Life with my foster parents has been great. They give me baths, keep my belly full and shower me with affection. I’ve even claimed my favorite sleeping spot: right in foster dad’s bed! I’ve managed to squeeze him into a tiny corner. He says it reminds him of the tight sleeping racks from his Navy days. He tells me stories from those days, and I love listening to them with my head resting in his lap.
Just the other day, I had to ask him something that had been weighing on me.
I looked up at him and asked, “Why doesn’t anyone want me?”
He looked a little confused, so I kept going.
“Is it because someone cropped my ears and made me look different? Or because I was left outside in the Texas heat and maybe had a heatstroke?”
He gently stroked my head and said, “No, Tanner, that’s not it at all.”
He told me that people just haven’t had the chance to see how wonderful I really am. They don’t know how well-behaved I am, how gentle and kind I can be. They haven’t seen me cleaning up after my foster sister during mealtime (someone’s gotta do it, right?). They haven’t seen the sweet, loyal dog that I am.
As I laid my head back in his lap, he kept talking. He told me that even if the right family hasn’t come along yet, I already have a family here that loves me deeply. That made me feel warm inside… so of course, I asked for a treat. (What? I earned it!)
Luckily, foster dad doesn’t hold back on those. I get some freeze-dried hearts and a Milk-Bone every day. Yep, life’s pretty good right now.
But still… I dream of my next home. A place to settle in, steal a bed spot or two and love my new people as much as I’ve learned to love my foster family.
Until then, I’ll be right here… tail wagging, heart full, waiting for you to find me.
