On August 26, 2022, Thelma Louise’s life changed forever. Thelma was part of a cruelty investigation, and her owner was given the choice to either surrender her to animal control or have charges filed against them.
Thelma was surrendered with bite marks all over her. Demodex mange covered her face, chest and legs. She was just a shell of a Bulldog. Her life of being bred to a Pit Bull to make “shorty bulls” had sucked the life right out of her.
At age 4, she had nearly given up, physically and mentally. We kept telling her to just hang on and that things would be better soon, and that one day, we’d find her a family who will love and cherish her forever.
And today was the day! An adoption day, but also a transformation day… a day to celebrate transforming into the beautiful Bulldog she was born to be.
Mike and Laura knew she was the one. She will help them heal, as they grieve for Scrunchie, who recently crossed the Rainbow Bridge.
Thelma Louise will never want for anything. She will be treated like a princess and live the life of one. Thelma still has the scars, the reminders that evil still exists, but also the hope…. the hope that rescue can continue to save more dogs just like her.
We all love you, Thelma. You make us all better people just for knowing you. Go live the amazing life you so deserve to live!
When the shelter sent the picture my first thought was “how can this happen?” And my second thought was “Evil is alive and well.”
A couple years ago this bulldog had been reported as “lost or stolen.” And on Tuesday she was surrendered to a local animal control. “Surrendered” might not be the correct term, but it is the term on her paperwork. You see a Judge already had the paperwork to proceed with Animal Cruelty charges against the owner to remove her and other dogs from the home. The family was given the choice of surrender or pressing charges. They surrendered. The people were breeding “shorty bulls.” And Thelma was the bulldog they bred to the pit.
When Thelma was scanned, she had a microchip. The listed family was called, but they decided she needed more help than they could give.
When I met her on Thursday, she broke my heart. A 32lb. shell of a bulldog. She walks toward you with her head down. But she gets so excited when you pet her.
Thelma Louise is 4 years old. Thelma has bite marks all over her. Thelma will never know abuse again. Thelma was saved and her new life has begun. And for all the bulldogs out there living Thelma Louise’s life we are coming for you. Don’t give up.
8/26/22 Update: Dr. Larsen feels like she has been bred a lot. She has had multiple c-sections, but they are old and she does not feel like she has had one in a while. Her bloodwork shows she is anemic, with a high white cell count. Hookworms and whip worms. Her face will heal and have some scaring. It is still very swollen. She need to be fattened back up before any type of surgery if it is needed. We can do bloodwork to see if she has been spayed or not. We will repeat her full panel bloodwork in 60 days. She is very sweet and just wants to be loved.
10/3/22 Update: Look how beautiful foster girl Thelma Louise is looking! She’s like a whole new dog.
She’s excited that she may be able to meet you at the next Pizza Paw-ty at the Campisi’s in Rockwall. Be sure you put us on your social calendar.
10/17/22 Update: Wanted to tell everyone know how I am doing in my foster home. I am not going to lie… it’s been challenging at times.
I am still scared of many things. Loud noises and sudden movements may send me hiding for a bit. But I don’t stay hidden for long. As soon as I feel safe, I creep right back out.
I have scars from my past – some you can see, some you can’t. My scars you can’t see are emotional.
My favorite place to sleep is curled up in a recliner and if you crate me and I can see you, I will cry like a baby.
I hope my furever family finds me soon. I have so many things to pack that my secret admirer sent me. Really, all I need now is love and more time to heal emotionally.
