Beckum

Beckum

6/18/25 AWESOME ADOPTION ALERT! From the foster momma: My sweet Beckum. I miss him terribly, but I know in my heart he’s exactly where he’s meant to be—safe, loved and surrounded by his new family.

Beckum made quite an impression on all of us. Always the perfect gentleman, he was my constant shadow and companion. Though just a little over 2 years old, he was eager to learn and picked things up so quickly—it made working with him such a joy. I’ll especially miss his sleepy-time drooling and the surprise moments when he’d suddenly leap into my chair like a giant lap dog.

His first night in his adoptive home was a little touch and go—understandably. After spending over five hours in two different cars, in the Texas heat, with so many new faces and smells, he was overwhelmed and overstimulated. But once he got a good night’s rest—on his very own pillow in one of the boys’ rooms, no less—he bounced right back. By morning, he was back to his sweet, gentle self.

Now, Beckum is settling in beautifully. He’s already bonding with his new fur brother, Beltre, and has found his favorite spot on the couch—complete with a few toys to snuggle as he naps. His new mom shared that he’s started wagging his little butt, prancing around the house, and even giving out kisses. Watching his personality shine through in his new home is everything we could hope for.

They had a graduation party for the oldest boy shortly after Beckum arrived, and he was the perfect guest—kind, polite and loving to everyone he met. He soaked up all the attention and, by the end of the day, was happily passed out on the floor, completely content.

We are so happy Beckum has found his forever family—a home filled with love, laughter, and people who will cherish him just as much as we did. He deserves every bit of joy coming his way.

Happy tails, Beckum. You’ll always have a special place in my heart.

INTRODUCTION:  I was posted all over social media, so I thought someone would remember me and come looking—but nope, no one did. Honestly, I was OK with that because I was really hungry and pretty thin.

But here’s the good part: everyone I’ve met since then has been so kind, and they keep telling me how cute I am!

I think I’m about 2 years old because I’ve got a lot of energy and a zest for life. I’ve met tons of dogs, and I’ve loved every single one of them!

Now, I’m just hoping to find a family who’ll love me forever and never let me get lost again. My name is Beckum, and I’m ready to be your best friend.

If you’re looking for a sweet and energetic companion, you might be my perfect match!

4/14/25 update:  I picked up Beckum last week. He’s an absolute sweetheart with a goofy streak!

The resident Bulldogs welcomed him with open paws—even cranky Annie gave him the nod of approval! He’s already showing off his playful side and has a particular interest in “helping” inspect whatever’s on the kitchen counter.

Despite the cone, he’s managed to figure out how to climb into the chair with me—determined to be part of the snuggle squad. He’ll soon get a bath and will be even more handsome (if that’s possible)!

5/1/25 update:  For some reason the cutest pics of Beckum are when he’s asleep! He has discovered toys and likes to sleep with them and on them.

His second cherry eye surgery was a success and it looks great! He has gained some weight and you don’t see his ribs anymore. Since he started eating a good dog food and getting some pumpkin and vegetables here and there he is really looking and feeling better.

Loves licking on Abby (resident bulldog) and playing with her. He has warmed up to the little grand dog and doesn’t care about the cat. He doesn’t like cranky Annie (the other resident bulldog) so they don’t play or spend too much time together.  Its ok he’s not the first one to not get along with her.

He likes to stand guard to my office and he loved going to baseball practice. He is very smart and catches on very quick. We planted grass sod in the back yard and he has learned to not walk on it and goes around it to where he can potty.

He likes to stand on his hind legs to see what you are fixing him to eat. He does use a slow feeder and does great with it. He just loves to be around everyone all the time and especially loves to sit in your lap because he thinks he’s a lap dog. Likes going in the car and picking the grandsons up from school and he walks on a leash very well. He is very playful but also likes his naps.

5/23/25 update:  Beckum continues to thrive and bring joy to our foster home! He absolutely loves being outside—but he’s just as happy curled up on the couch or snoozing in my lap. He’s convinced he’s a lap dog, and while that may be a bit of a stretch, we make it work!

When it comes to food, Beckum is not picky in the slightest. Alongside his salmon and potato kibble, he’s developed a taste for pumpkin, peas, carrots, peanut butter, and of course—treats! He’s not food aggressive at all, though he does eat quickly, so a slow feeder helps him pace himself.

Beckum is incredibly well-behaved around both people and other dogs. He’s shown no signs of aggression, though he still hasn’t warmed up to our cranky Annie—but who can blame him?

He’s fully crate trained and sleeps through the night without a fuss. Bedtime is around 9 p.m. with the resident Bulldogs, and he wakes up around 7 a.m. He’s happy to head into his crate for the night—or for a treat!

He still adores Abby, our resident Bulldog, and loves to lick her and play. He and the little grand-dog chase each other in the yard, or they’ll just soak up the sun together with Abby. Beckum is wonderfully adaptable and takes everything in stride—even with the recent chaos of workers coming in and out of the house, he’s been completely unfazed.

He’s a happy boy, always wagging and ready to please. He’s got a little bounce in his step that reminds me of that meme: “He’s just a hap-hap-happy dog… just a happy, happy, happy dog!”

He listens well and responds to “no” immediately—unless, of course, he doesn’t want to come back inside (we’re working on that!). Jumping is another thing we’re working on—he gets a little overexcited sometimes, but he’s eager to learn and very trainable.
