Brody Gus

Brody Gus

6/24/25 AWESOME ADOPTION ALERT! From the foster momma: When Brody Gus came into rescue in June 2024, he was a shadow of the dog he was meant to be. Found by a true guardian angel, he was in desperate need of medical care—severely underweight, ribs visible, and dragging a broken, dislocated front leg. Terrified of human touch, Brody Gus had clearly endured the unimaginable.

That same kind-hearted man who found him never walked away. He became Brody Gus’s angel in every way—offering not only love and support but also generously contributing to his medical care.

In those first few months, Brody Gus underwent multiple surgeries—cherry eye repair and a major operation to save his leg. Healing his body was one thing… healing his spirit took time, patience, and an unwavering belief in his potential. His fear sometimes resurfaced, but with love and understanding, he began to trust again.

We always knew Brody Gus would need something special—a family with patience, experience, and hearts big enough to meet him where he was. And then, once again, his guardian angel stepped in—connecting us with the unicorn family we had hoped for all along.

Brody Gus is now living his best life in East Texas with a family who knows Bulldogs, especially those who need a little extra care. They saw in him the same incredible soul his foster mom had seen from the beginning.

It is with a full heart and deep gratitude that we share the happiest news: Brody Gus has been adopted. 💖

As his foster mom, I’ve loved every pup who’s passed through my home—but this boy… he took a piece of my heart with him. I can only hope that piece helped heal his in return.

Unfortunately, Brody Gus is back in rescue as his previous adoption wasn’t quite the perfect match. But that’s okay—his family is still out there, and we’re hopeful we’ll find them soon!

We’re not sure what Brody Gus experienced before coming into rescue, but it’s clear that it has left some lasting effects. He can be a bit timid, and loud noises or deep voices tend to make him anxious. A calm, quiet home without other dogs (or with passive dogs) could be exactly what he needs to feel safe and loved.

INTRODUCTION: It was the hottest day so far when Roy saw Brody Gus laying under some shrubs at one of the nicest country clubs in McKinney.

Roy stopped his car and lifted Brody Gus gently into his truck. Fleas were crawling all over the dog’s lifeless body.

Roy knew what to do because he himself has a Bulldog. Cooling Brody Gus down was the first priority. He gave Brody Gus water and then took him to be scanned for possible microchip.

Brody Gus got a Bravecto for his flea infestation, fluids for his dehydration and a small meal. Brody Gus inhaled it like it had been days since he last ate.

The resident vet thought he felt two  different breaks in Brody Gus’ leg. There is no loss of hair or a callus on his leg or foot, so the vet thought it was a recent injury. We’ll learn more about his medical issues now that he’s in our care.

Brody Gus is really just a big puppy. He’s sweet as can be and certainly did not deserve to die in this Texas heat under the shrubs at a county club.

7/5/24 Update:  Quick update on our newest arrival Brody Gus: Based on the X-rays, Dr. Lay thinks Brody Gus was either kicked in the knee or thrown and landed on his knee. He won’t know the extent of the injuries until he goes in for surgery.

We’re so glad this saved stray boy can now get the care he needs…. Thank you for allowing us to help Brody Gus.

7/18/24 Update:  Brody Gus had some more X-rays done with Dr. Lay this past week. And now, Dr. Lay has a plan to save Brody Gus’ leg and give him an opportunity for a wonderful life with four working legs!

Brody Gus has been settling into his foster home and learning what it’s like to be loved. He seems to be enjoying these changes!

Keep Brody Gus in your thoughts this week, as he’ll have his leg, cherry eye and neuter surgeries. A full makeover, so to speak. Thank you for allowing us to help him!

7/25/24 Update:  Thank you all for the good vibes and support. I’m currently recovering from surgery on my front leg. Dr. Lay did everything possible, but my leg had been broken for a long time. To save it, a metal plate was necessary.

Please keep me in your thoughts as I’m not completely out of the woods yet; there’s still a chance my leg may need to be amputated. Due to the length of my surgery, my other surgical procedures have been postponed. Dr. Lay didn’t want me to stay under anesthesia any longer than necessary.

My foster mom has been wonderful, ensuring I’m comfortable and showering me with treats! That’s a win for me.

8/2/24 Update:   I got to see two of my FAVORITE people this week! Dr. Lay and Miss Jeannie told me that I am healing really well.

My leg is looking stronger, and I even put on a few pounds! I’m up to 34 lbs. now.

They said I still need to strengthen the muscles around my leg, but I’ve made good progress. I already feel so much better than I did before. Thank you to everyone who has helped me get better!

9/20/24 Update:  Brody Gus is a special guy. He wants so much to be loved, but still can get protective of the things around him, like blankets and toys.

Physically, he’s recovered from cherry eye surgery, his broken leg and he’s on the mend from his neuter this week. Mentally, I think some of his past may still haunt him, but we’re helping him gain confidence.

He is slowly gaining weight, and getting stronger and braver each day. He’s a small guy will lots of heart and personality.

10/25/24 Update:   I was a bit bummed to miss Bull-O-Ween, but I’m slowly overcoming my shyness and getting used to loud and unfamiliar sounds. Every day, I’m growing braver and stronger!

I discovered a jolly ball in the toy bucket, and it’s quickly become my favorite. I’m using both my front legs to hop up on furniture and I’ve started asking for pets and attention, which I’ve realized is pretty amazing! I’ve even begun exploring other rooms in my foster home and found some fantastic napping spots.

I’m finally ready to step out and declare that I’m looking for my own family and a place to call home.

11/27/24 Update:  Brody Gus is doing great and continues to thrive in his foster home! He loves his daily walks and is always excited to explore the outdoors. Recently, this handsome boy mastered using his bionic leg to jump up onto the couch and recliner—his new favorite spots for lounging in comfort.

While Brody Gus is an absolute sweetheart, he’s not always a fan of the usual household sounds, like laundry baskets or trash bags. When he hears these noises, he can get a bit vocal and might even try to “attack” them—perhaps he’s just not a fan of pesky housework!

When he’s not on high alert, Brody Gus is all love. He’ll happily lift his paw and roll over to show you his belly, eagerly accepting pets and kisses. He gets along well with the other dogs in the house, though he does seem to have a soft spot for the ladies.

Brody Gus is a sweet, playful boy who’s ready to bring joy and affection to his next family!

3/20/25 Update:  Every day is “Tongue Out Tuesday”  for Brody Gus!! This sweet guy spends most of his days being a tiny loaf, napping in the most comfy spots he can find.
