Today was the best day of Candy Heart’s life. Today, she found her forever family who was picked just for her.
Candy Heart has a new skin sister named Kerigan, who fell to her knees when Candy Heart came around the corner. She told Candy Heart that she was beautiful and that she loved her, and she was everything she ever wanted. That’s all Candy needed to hear, and she was all about Kerigan from then on.
To know Candy is to love her. Every inch of her can be a pest. Candy Heart has never met a stranger. If you are close to her, she is going to be all over you…. up on the sofa, walking down the table, carrying beds and towels through the house and being nosey about anything that is new that comes in the house.
When I spoke to Jessica and Brant on the phone about Candy, I was sure to mention, “She does not know personal space” and that she would be the class clown, if she was a child. They both agreed she was the Bulldog for them!
Candy Heart joined rescue on Feb. 14. She was picked up as a stray, weighing 39 lbs. Her skin was a mess and she was starving to death. Those days are long gone. She now weighs 60 lbs. and is thick and fit. Candy’s fur is now like velvet and she makes sure she never misses a meal.
Kerigan is going to make sure Candy Heart is loved, taken care of and sleeps in her bed. And Candy Heart has found her perfect home.
Bulldog friends, when animal control picked me up, I knew it was the best day of my life. Finally, someone was going to make sure I had something to eat and drink. I was also going to get a roof over my head.
I’m not a “spring chicken” anymore and my muzzle is turning gray in places. I’ve had my share of babies and my body shows it.
When I got to the shelter, it was the week of Valentine’s Day. There were hearts, flowers and candy all over. Love was in the air! My new shelter friends let me hang out with them in the office. They said I wouldn’t take up much space because I’m small. When they weighed me, they told me I was 38 lbs and 50 lbs would look a lot better on me. Hey, I am all about getting to eat more. When I stand up now, you can count my ribs.
I really had settled in nicely at the shelter. I was planning to live in the office and be the official Bulldog greeter! But my heart starting hurting when I saw so many animals getting to leave with their new families. I decided I really needed a new family too. Plus, I need to be spayed so I can close that chapter of my life.
My shelter family named me Candy Heart because they said I was as sweet as candy and I had their hearts. I heard someone say they thought I was between 5 and 6 years old. I really don’t know ~ all I do know is my next trip around the sun will be with an amazing family who wants a Candy Heart just like me.
