On Dec. 9, 2022, Carolina Carrol joined rescue and it was a great day for her. Her fur was a mess ~ every patch of white was stained with urine. Her ears had fly strikes all over them.
She had lived in a shed all her life. Well, Carolina really never “lived” ~ she just existed.
The collar, harness and leash were foreign to her. There was no such thing as inside rules and outside rules. Carolina, who had never been in a home, had a hard time understanding what to do and where to do it.
Beata is a friend of mine and she was not looking for another dog. She and Paul had their dog, Haley, and she is their everything. She goes to doggie day care and enjoys the finer things in life. But Beata and Paul knew they could help Carolina by at least cleaning her up an making her feel like she mattered, at least.
The baths turned into “We are going to keep her for one week” and then another week.
But the struggles were real. Carolina was not at all interested in going to doggie day care. In fact, she was uninvited.
Carolina had found comfort in Beata and Paul’s home, but meeting strangers could get tense. She was fearful and you knew it because she would show you… her teeth.
Beata and Paul continued the work, going the extra mile and figuring out what they could do to help Carolina feel loved and safe. They wanted to make sure she would be able to be adopted and be part of a family.
And here she is today… with her family.
Carolina goes to boarding and doggy day care now, with zero problems. She and her fur sister, Haley, are best friends and take every step together.
Beata and Paul would tell you that giving up was never an option. It just took time.
Today, Carolina celebrates the best day of her life…. her adoption day!
It was all that Carolina Carrol had asked for…. She wanted to join rescue, have a warm bath, sit with Dr. Larsen and have medication for her skin. Her wishes came true. She left behind her old life and is starting a new one.
Cute as can be and as sweet as they come, Carolina Carrol is 4 years old and previously had four litters. Soon, that baby-making business will be closed forever and the rest of her life starts.
12/29/22 Update: Hey ya’ll remember me? I joined rescue on Dec. 9 and to tell you the truth I was a “train wreck.” My skin was a mess, and in a lot of places I didn’t have much fur. Now look at me today! My fur is soft as silk. I have a beauty routine that I have stuck to, and even though it was a bit much, foster mom told me I was worth every second she worked on me. I have had so many bathes with a charcoal shampoo for dogs plus a lavender gel for all my sores I have lost count. Let me just tell you the daily bathing was amazing.
Foster Mom kept trying to brush my teeth, but after many attempts she decided she would leave the teeth to a professional. My one ear is still pretty closed but she has been trying to get in there to give it a good cleaning too. I have been going on a lot of walks and walking now is my favorite past time.
Today I am on my way to see Dr. Larsen. This is the first time I have been to the clinic. I felt like I needed to feel better before I let them give me some shots. And this week, of all things, I am in heat. What a mess that is. I will be so happy when I am spayed and never have to deal with this again.
So, bulldog friends, if you have a minute, go back and look at my pictures when I joined rescue and I bet you say to yourself, “Is that really the same dog?” It really is the same Carolina Carroll with a wonderful attitude and soon I will be looking for my forever family, and they will be amazing!
