Jazz (now Mango)

Jazz (now Mango)

Jazz has been adopted! Her new name is Mango and she has her own home to be the queen of! Her new dad said she is doing great; she loves all people and his son really loves her! He said she has a great personality and it hasn’t taken her long to show it.

When she came to rescue on Dec 15th, I picked her up and was instantly smitten with her. Coming from the horrible conditions she was in you would think she would be leery of people but she wasn’t. She has the best disposition and took to everyone and all the other pups in our home – from the crankiest to the smallest.

Mango was a joy to be around. I miss having her here with the others snoring as I worked in my office and following me everywhere – and I mean everywhere! She would look up at you with those big eyes and it would just melt your heart. I didn’t get a chance to make her a prosthetic ear but she has her string of pearls!

Thank you to the ladies that rescued her in Longview and contacted rescue to give her the best life she could have.

Not long ago, a dog fighting ring was busted in an East Texas town, and when it was shut down, they found me there, too.

It’s true I only have one ear and I’ve had puppies in my day, but I don’t remember ever being part of a dog fight ~ I’m told they were using other breeds to fight. Either way, I sure was relieved when I was scooped up and brought to safety.

This is just a brief introduction, though—I’m still decompressing and taking it easy today. Maybe tomorrow I’ll feel ready to share more of my story.

1/10/25 Update:   I’m thrilled to share with you my newest foster dog, Jazz! I picked her up last Friday from Bright Star Veterinary Clinic, and despite her tough start in life, she’s already showing what a sweetheart she is.

Jazz has quickly become best friends with my Abby—just like Peaches Paradise, wherever Abby goes, Jazz isn’t far behind. She’s not fazed by the resident 18-year-old cat or my little 7-pound grand dog, but she’s not too fond of the other Bulldog in the house. No worries, though—she’s got Abby to keep her company!

Jazz is a trooper, tolerating our ‘puppy’ Bulldog, even though he can be a bit much for her. She’s also a yoga enthusiast and has mastered the “downward dog” pose!

When she wants something, like a treat, she’ll definitely let you know. She’s been the perfect houseguest so far—no accidents at all.

She does have some dental issues, so I’m feeding her canned food for now because she was having trouble chewing dry kibble. Hopefully, everything will be sorted out when she gets spayed. Jazz also gets two different eye drops twice a day, and she just stands there calmly without any fuss.

Jazz is a total people person and loves to be by your side. She’s even been helping me work today and is doing a fantastic job!

Stay tuned for more updates on this sweet girl—she’s truly a gem!

1/17/25 Update:  Jazz is a little troublemaker with a big personality! She loves knocking over trash cans and has a blast playing outside with the resident Bulldogs — even our cantankerous Annie. In fact, Jazz enjoys sitting or lying in front of Annie’s crate, probably just to stir things up a bit! She’s used to the youngest Bulldog’s wild antics and is starting to join him in his adventures. The smallest member of the pack (my granddog) also loves tagging along with her whenever he can.

Jazz has a knack for letting you know when she’s in the kitchen. She’ll bark and bark until the others join in, all in hopes of getting a treat. Peanut butter sandwich bites are a particular favorite in the afternoons!

She’s absolutely beautiful, even with one ear — I hardly even notice it anymore. Jazz is a loving companion who follows you everywhere, inside and out, because she doesn’t want to miss a single thing.

2/13/25 Update:  We are working on learning some manners. She loves to knock over trashcans – inside and outside (just like Peaches would do). Her favorite thing is to bark at you if you are in the kitchen doing anything – she wants a treat or some kind of food.

Her spay healed up nicely. Her eyes look better after the eye surgery but she will need eye drops from now on. She does sit very nicely to get her drops. She only has one ear since the other was lost when she was used as a bait dog but it doesn’t seem to bother her. She’s beautiful just the way she is! She is currently curled up in the dog bed with my Abby and they are both snoring up a storm! It didn’t take her long to learn the routine around here on work days. I work from home and she just goes with the flow.

Jazz loves to go in the car and go for walks. She will let you know if she hears any kind of sounds outside – a good little watch dog.

2/20/25 Update:  Last night, we were in the TV room when Jazz came running in, jumped onto the couch—and made it on the first try! This was a first for her, and she immediately claimed the blanket at the end of the couch, curling up and making herself a cozy little bed. She spent the rest of the evening lounging there in pure comfort.

When she’s not on the couch (which she also claimed this morning), she grabs her blankie and makes herself a comfy bed wherever she is.

Jazz is incredibly photogenic and always has her tongue out, making her absolutely adorable in every picture. We gave everyone baths this weekend, and let me tell you, it wore us all out!

She’s a funny girl with a lot of charm. I got her a new jacket, and she absolutely loves it. I’m still trying to figure out how to make her a prosthetic ear—bless her heart, but she’s a trooper! Jazz is also super loving, loves giving kisses, and enjoys being around everyone.

We’re still working on curbing her habit of barking when someone walks into the kitchen, but she’s making progress. As for potty training, she’s about 97% there. Every once in a while, she has an accident, but it’s always by the back door, so she knows where she’s supposed to go.

Jazz is ready for her next home, where she can be the center of attention and get all the love and care she deserves. She’s looking for a family who will dote on her and spoil her just the way she deserves!
