I have some wonderful news to share! Congratulations are in order for our sweet Keena.
Last week, we took Keena to meet Morgan, who recently lost her precious Daisy. Morgan and her mom have a piece of their hearts missing, and it was just too quiet in their home now.
They both fell in love with Keena and her puffy tail, the way she waddles around, and how loving she is.
It’s heartening to hear that Keena will now be surrounded by love and care, embracing the queen role she deserves.
Here’s to a brighter and happier future for Keena and her new family. Let’s wish them all lots of joy and happiness together!
Keena is a great example of why you shouldn’t give away your Bulldog to just anyone.
Four years ago, when Keena was 2, her dad was going through some hard times and his life was changing. He had to leave for work by 4 a.m., and he wouldn’t be home until early evening.
He knew Keena was people-oriented, so Keena was rehomed to someone who had always wanted a Bulldog.
As the years passed, Keena’s dad often thought of her and how happy she must be Then last week, he had the chance to stop by and see Keena after all these years.
The mother came to the door and the dad introduced himself and asked to see Keena. He was taken outside to see she was living in a small crate with a box fan blowing in her face. He broke down in tears.
His big, beautiful Bulldog, with perfect skin, clear eyes and soft fur, was now covered in filth and scabs. Her eyes were matted together and her infections were so bad, you could smell her before you saw her. That perfect life was not so perfect after all.
Keena has had several baths, and her stomach and chest look like she was set on fire. Both of her eyes are cloudy, and she runs into the walls.
My heart breaks for those years she lost sitting outside in a tiny crate waiting for someone to save her.
But the best days of Keena’s life are now in front of her. We look forward to helping this girl regain her health and wellness. She deserves to live life in comfort and love again.
9/5/23 Update: Keena is settling into her foster home. She’s beginning to play with toys on her own and relax. She’s still very curious about our two little old ladies, the 14-year-old Maltipoos.
She’s house and kennel trained. She’s taking her oral meds well and eyes drops are getting easier. She still runs into stuff at times, but is getting to know the house better.
9/27/23 Update: I’ve been in my foster home three days now and I think I’m really going to like my temporary stay here!
My foster family has been very patient with me as I try to love on the other dogs. Foster Mom has been explaining that they don’t really like that too much. Today, I tried to take one of my foster sibling’s treats and that didn’t turn out well either. Foster Mom said we will be more careful at treat time in the future.
I’m about 6 years old, but I have the energy of a 2-year-old! I have been bonding with my 2-year-old foster sister. Foster Mom calls us the Hostess Twinkies.
I go in my kennel for quiet time, and bedtime. I prefer to snuggle with the family, but I understand that sometimes, they have things they have to do.
Foster Mom has been trying to show me how fun toys can be… I haven’t figured those out quite yet.
Foster Mom gives me eye drops, and I will likely need them for the rest of my life. I’m not a big fan, but Foster Mom is working on finding a better way for this too.
10/31/23 Update: Hello, all of my Bulldog luvn’ fans! I’ve been looking through the approved applications searching for my perfect family.
Foster mom says that I am a real sweetheart.
Today, she added “most of the time” after that sentence.
I really like that foster mom and I don’t always want to share her attention with the other dogs. This is when I’m not as much of a sweetheart. I am starting to think I will do best in a family with no other dogs. I’m just not good at sharing all the time.
I do like kids. I get a little excited, so they may need to be a little older… at least big enough so I can’t knock them down.
Two of my most favorite things are playing and cuddling. Maybe if you like the same, you could be the family that I’m waiting for… Get your applications submitted!
11/24/23 Update: Keena wanted to tell everyone to have a Happy Thanksgiving and to eat some extra turkey for her.
We had so much fun at Bulloween and the Pizza Pawty last week.
Keena is so sweet and loving. She loves foster mom so much that she prefers to not share her with the resident bulldog. She gets along fine with the other fosters. That being said, we think she’d prefer to be the center of attention in her furever home, but there is a possibility she could be ok with another furiend.
Her favorite place to be is sitting in your lap. She goes into her kennel at bedtime. One night FM didn’t get it latched good and woke up to her sleeping on the couch. She uses the doggy door and doesn’t get into trash or destroy things, so it was a-ok that she had a night out.
Keena would love to be in her furever home for Christmas! Get your applications in, if you would like to have and give all the love with this sweet girl.
1/11/24 Update: She is doing fabulous. This girl is so loving. Her favorite place to be is in your lap… usually with her head laying on your chest. She has the softest fur. Foster dad tells her it feels like satin.
Keena does well alone too. She enjoys crawling up on the couch, cuddling up with a blanket, and resting when no one is home, or when we are busy.
She does great on a leash and loves to go, go, go! She is the best friend a person could ask for. She is completely house broken and uses the doggy door. She goes into her kennel with no fuss at night and sleeps quietly, for the most part. She does snore a little, but not like that really loud snore that some Bulldogs have.
While we think that she will do best as an “only,” she does get along with some other dogs. She loved our last foster dog, and we had a short-term foster dog over the holidays and they got along fine too. One was a girl, and the other a boy…. so it doesn’t have to do with the sex of the dog. She’s just picky about what other dogs she lets into her life!
