Lilith

Lilith

This is truly the adoption story of the year, and one that brought me to tears.

About three years ago, Erika and Brian opened their hearts and home to two precious Bulldog puppies—littermates, a boy and a girl. They named them Kimba and Lilith, and they were showered with love every day.

Then, life took an unexpected turn: Erika and Brian went through a divorce. Brian kept Kimba, while Erika took Lilith.

But soon, Erika realized she wasn’t able to care for Lilith the way she deserved, so she reached out to rescue and made the heartbreaking decision to surrender Lilith.

But Brian never forgot about his girl.

A while back, Brian contacted the rescue and shared his story, expressing how much he missed Lilith and wanted to adopt her. It was clear from the start how deeply he loved her. After filling out the adoption application, it was clear that Lilith was meant to come back to the family that had never stopped loving her.

His daughter was the first to say, “Lilith, we’ve missed you so much. We never stopped thinking about you.” The love they had for her never faded.

And in the end, we always do what’s best for the Bulldog. Reuniting Lilith with the family who never stopped thinking about her was the right decision.

Last night, there were so many nerves when I let Lilith out of the crate at work. Would she remember her family? The moment she stepped out, saw them, and leapt toward them—it was pure magic. Lilith knew exactly who they were. It was an unforgettable moment, filled with love, as Lilith realized she was finally going home.

I joined rescue yesterday. It was unexpected, and I’m feeling a bit sad. My family decided to go their separate ways, and given the expenses of caring for a Bulldog, it was best for me to find a new home. They loved me dearly, and it was a tough day for all of us. I have a brother who I hope can join me here too.

I’m 3 years old, have experience with other dogs and kids, and I’m ready to find a loving family who appreciates a beautiful Bulldog like me!

11/1/24 Update:   This week has been all about the epic stare down contest between Lilith and my own Bulldog, Pork Chop!

Lilith loves to challenge him—she’ll strut by like she’s trying to catch his attention, and sometimes she’ll get in his face, as if to say, “Hello!” Pork Chop usually responds with a bark to remind her who’s boss.

She’s still working on sharing me, often grumbling at other dogs that get too close. But when it comes to car rides, she’s in her element. She also likes to zoom around the house, chasing balloons, and leaping through the air to keep them afloat! Honestly, this little girl could probably qualify for the Olympics!

From day one, she’s been sleeping in bed with Pork Chop and me. She’s incredibly affectionate, resting her face against mine, but surprisingly, she’s never licked me! I’ve never met a dog that doesn’t at least try to give kisses.

Lilith is also a big fan of her chew bones, and I often catch her rummaging through the toy basket, pulling out one toy after another—like a woman trying on outfits! Poor Pork Chop seems to have drawn a line, as he now lays in front of the toy basket to keep her away.

She’s very well-mannered; she’ll sit on the floor and only jumps on the couch when invited. Instead of using the stairs to get on my bed like Pork Chop does, she hops up like a little kangaroo!

Overall, she’s a sweet girl, still learning and testing boundaries, and I’m loving every moment with her!

11/15/24 Update:  Lilith had a wonderful first day with us! She’s settling in nicely and has already begun to show her sweet personality. Lilith loves to follow me around the house — it’s adorable to have her by my side all the time.

She’s still a little shy around my husband, but we’re confident she’ll warm up to him in no time. Maybe a few tasty treats will do the trick!

Lilith is a true nap enthusiast, and we’ve already caught her snoozing in her favorite spots. She’s incredibly quiet and did great in her crate last night — no fuss at all!

One of her favorite things is spending time outside, especially when there’s a cool breeze. And we’ve noticed something funny — before she goes potty, she gets the zoomies! It’s such a joy to watch her run around with pure excitement.

We’re so happy to have Lilith as part of our family temporarily and can’t wait to see her continue to blossom!

11/27/24 Update:  She’s adjusting pretty well overall, though she’s still timid of men.

Whenever one is around, she runs away and shakes with fear.

The only time she’ll approach a man is if he’s sitting down, and even then, it’s rare. She’s also a bit shy around some women, though it’s not as intense as with men. She continues to follow me everywhere I go, though I try to keep her out of the kitchen. We’re working on boosting her confidence and building her trust.

She’s really enjoying her new toys and treats, which has helped her settle in a bit more. On the bright side, she doesn’t bark or growl, which is a big plus. She loves soaking up the sun, and when she’s ready to go outside, she’ll just give you a steady look and stare at the door.
