Moon Pie is now an Okie! Her new family took her for a ride to Oklahoma. This sweet girl will be loved forever, and she will enjoy many adventures. Happy trails, Moon Pie.
It was all over a piece of kibble ~ not even one in a bowl, but one that had rolled on the floor.
When there is a fight, everyone should know the rules. Moon Pie didn’t know the rule that the fat Bulldog was the cleanup lady.
With that lack of knowledge, Moon Pie ended up in a vicious fight. But only one dog fought. Moon Pie laid down and apparently screamed. The fat dog wouldn’t let Moon Pie go. Clearly, Moon Pie was in shock. She could hardly move.
When we picked her up to join our rescue family, she smelled so bad, it took our breath away.
Moon Pie is a survivor, one of the lucky ones. She’ll never be hurt again, and she will find a family who will love her and keep her safe forever.
Welcome to rescue, Moon Pie. You’re going to love it here.
6/14/24 Update: Moon Pie is adjusting well in her foster home. She’s gaining confidence and now leaves her crate to explore the house and backyard.
Since her spay procedure, her appetite has come back and she’s eating much better. She still turns down carrots, apples and things she’s not familiar with. I’m used to a chow hound who would eat Styrofoam if it were offered to him!
She will be a great addition to any family.
6/27/24 Update: Oh, Miss Moon Pie! What a rascal. You’re insinuating yourself into my heart! She’s such a sweet girl, although Archie no longer has any bed that is strictly his. She has claimed them all.
She has learned to eat carrots and green beans, in addition to her twice daily meal of kibble (and a meatball). Yes, she gets one crumbled into her dish twice a day every day.
She craves hands-on attention and while a little tentative with new people, she quickly figures out who will love on her and just hangs by their side.
She scared me a little last week when she abruptly quit eating. Terrified she’d ingested something, I got her into the vet the next morning and after X-rays and a sonogram, Dr. Suh determined she had an intestinal infection/inflammation. She responded immediately to the antibiotic injection and B-12. She was eating that night.
He did suggest she was older than 3 ~ maybe 5-6 ~ based on the arthritis he saw in her spine.
She’s doing great and will make a lovely addition for anyone’s family. Even Archie will be sad to see her go (I think he misses his mama’s solo attention).
7/11/24 Update: My foster mom travelled for the Independence Day weekend, so I chose to bunk out at Chez Maison Ménard BBnB. I am still so bashful and fearful that I need time to recover. No matter, these peeps understand and grant me space. I have my own guest suite, complete with dining nook, she shed, and a comfy bed. It also has a waterproof floor covering, but that is another story.
I have learned some new foods. Today’s Bulldog Happy Hour featured warmed home-made fettuccine and cheese, fresh fruit, sliced turkey, and apple strudel. I have graduated to the clean bowl club! Nevertheless, I have renamed myself Mopey Moon Pie.
I need my mom. Life here has its highlights, but I am not yet ready for excitement. I prefer the laid-back life.
7/25/24 Update: What a big week I had! That’s me on the right, looking a bit forlorn.
Foster Mom’s grandkids, 6 and 8, and their giant 85 lb. puppy were visiting for a week and we had so much fun! Barry, the visiting pup or Archie, my foster brother, would wake up at 3 a.m. and it was game on! It was non-stop Wrestlemania as Foster Mom tried frantically to get us all out of the room before we woke the grandkids. She said she was losing her mind with so little sleep. But really, I know she didn’t mind because she knows me feeling safe and happy are the priorities.
And now that she moved my crate into her bedroom, I’m taking my “business” outside first thing. She’s really happy about that!
Foster Mom says some family would love to have someone as pretty and sweet as I am. I’m sure she’d love me to stay, but I think some family out there might need me more. And then once I’m adopted, that opens the door for rescue to help another Bulldog in need.
8/2/24 Update: Miss Moon Pie is living the life. She’s in love with Foster Mom and never wants to leave her side. Every room I moves to, she gets up out of a sound sleep and moves with me.
Foster Bro Archie is more than tolerated (she likes him!), but when it comes to sharing affection, she thinks Arch needs to take a backseat. Every time.
After I moved her crate into my bedroom, she happily goes into it. The laundry room just didn’t have the same appeal for some reason.
Moon Pie is so sweet, lovable and gentle. She will be happy with any family.
8/14/24 Update: Wow, what an adventure the last couple weeks have been! I spotted a girl on a balance beam who was about to fall off, and no one seemed to notice. I jumped into action, barking my head off to get some help. And every time a new girl took her place, I barked even more. My foster mom couldn’t stop laughing—she’d never seen a Bulldog so invested in TV before, but this was a serious emergency!
She’s also amazed by how quickly I can eat. I’m always quicker to finish my bowl than my foster brother. You’d think I had a bottomless pit for a stomach!
I’m loving life here and can’t wait to share all my affection with a forever family. I’ve got so much love to give and hope to find my new home soon!
