Nana Bloom

Nana Bloom

6/26/25 AWESOME ADOPTION ALERT – times two! From the foster-turned-forever momma: Wow—how do I even begin telling the story of my first foster failure?

Nana Bloom came into our lives in April. She was so shy at first, quietly observing everything from a safe distance. But little by little, she found her place in our home—and eventually, her perfect spot on the couch. Nana Bloom is independent by nature. She likes her space, but she began getting closer and closer to our resident Bulldog, Kevin. It didn’t take long before she was one of the crew.

Then, in May, foster girl Cleopatra Grace arrived.

She came into our lives after a heartbreaking loss that had me questioning whether I could continue fostering. While fostering is deeply rewarding, it can also be incredibly hard—full of joy, yes, but also sorrow when dogs pass. I wasn’t sure if I had it in me to open my heart again. But then Cleo came along.

Cleopatra Grace was the most neglected dog I had ever encountered. She was in such a fragile state that when I left her at the vet for surgery, I was terrified she wouldn’t make it. But she did. And when she came back home, her personality began to blossom.

She quickly bonded with Kevin—they became absolutely inseparable. Nana Bloom even began sharing in their excitement, and before long, the three of them were totally in sync.
They found a rhythm: trips to the lake, sharing ice cream, and play-fighting in bed. Day by day, their bond grew stronger.

One afternoon, while out on a walk, a neighbor asked, “How are the three musketeers doing? They look incredibly happy.” And the truth is—we were happy. We are happy.

The thought of separating them broke my heart… and I think it would have broken theirs too. So we made the decision to officially become a family of five.

Cleopatra Grace and Nana Bloom are now home forever. My husband and I are the proud parents of three incredible Bulldogs—and we couldn’t be happier!
To celebrate this new beginning (and Kevin’s 4th birthday!), the musketeers enjoyed a little cake. Of course, they made a mess, but it was totally worth it.

INTRODUCTION: Weighing just 34 pounds, Nana Bloom was found struggling in the sweltering heat after apparently being heartlessly dumped in the country.

It’s painfully clear she was used for breeding—again and again—until we assume, she was no longer “needed.”

Her nails are so overgrown, they curl under her paws, making each step a struggle. Despite her pain, when I knelt down to talk to her, she lit up with joy—so eager for kindness and connection.

Nana Bloom is one of those Bulldogs with a naturally serious face, but don’t let that fool you—she’s as sweet as they come.

Her ears, cruelly cropped down to the skin, are in rough shape. And the raw spots on her legs suggest she spent far too long spinning on concrete, trying to soothe herself in a place where no comfort was offered.

But those days are behind her now.

With a much-needed spa day, plenty of TLC, and the vet care she deserves, Nana Bloom is on her way to becoming someone’s perfect companion. She’s already showing us that her heart is full of love—and her journey to a beautiful new life is just beginning.

Welcome, Nana Bloom. The best is yet to come.

5/1/25 Update:  Nana Bloom was recently spayed and came into my care just about a week ago. The surgery went well, though the vet warned it was especially painful due to years of overbreeding and the removal of some kidney stones.

Understandably, this sweet girl was feeling rough—cranky, withdrawn, and hesitant to eat, making medication a challenge.

Transitioning from a life of neglect and abuse to being a “home dog” is never easy, but Nana Bloom is beginning to bloom…. and take her first brave steps.

She’s slowly learning to trust us, getting used to her new surroundings, and even warming up to her two step-siblings—seeking them out for short hangouts before retreating to her safe space.

Nana Bloom is gentle and shy, and it’s clear that human love is something she’s still getting used to. But the breakthrough came last night: after a tasty dinner and some gentle play, she curled up and slept belly-to-the-side for the first time. A small gesture, but a huge sign of trust.

Welcome to rescue, baby girl. The good life is just beginning!

5/8/25 Update:  Talk about a smart little lady on the mend!

Nana Bloom is such a clever and resilient girl. She’s been resting and taking excellent care of herself after her spay surgery. True to her independent spirit, Nana Bloom is constantly rearranging her little space—moving her bed to fit her needs and comfort.

In addition to her creative nesting, Nana Bloom is making great strides in her potty training. She’s been doing so much better, showing how adaptable and eager she is to learn.

While Nana Bloom’s full life story may be unknown, one thing is certain: her future is bright and shiny. With her intelligence, determination, and sweet nature, she’s ready to embrace the love and happiness she deserves.

5/23/25 Update:  After being saved from a local shelter, Nana Bloom is slowly but surely blossoming in her foster home.

She’s all healed up from her spay surgery and even got to enjoy a swim at the lake the other day! At first, she was unsure about the water, but after watching resident Bulldog Kevin happily splashing around, she decided to dive in and join the fun.

One thing you should know about Nana: she loves soaking up the sunshine. If it were up to her, she’d roast in the sun for hours on end. Unfortunately for her, the Texas heat is no joke—so her foster mom limits sunbathing to a strict 10 minutes at a time.

If Nana could file a formal complaint about that rule, we’re pretty sure she would!
