Oakley Owen’s forever family had a meet and greet a week ago and decided that they just couldn’t live without the adorable, sweet guy. They spent a few days thinking about it because he is extremely strong and looks like he has posed for countless figurines, but in the end, he is absolutely adorable. Extremely affectionate.
We will miss him but are so very glad that this statuesque ball of fur will be creating new memories with the Browns. Sniff, sniff
There were so many tears shed today when Oakley Owen packed his box and headed out the door to join rescue. He was definitely loved, but due to another dog in the home not loving him, he felt like it was time to go.
The transport truck rolled around the corner and transporter David said it was “love at first sight when he met Oakley!” Oakley hopped up in the truck, took a seat at shotgun and road like a champ down the highway very excited to watch the passing cars.
Oakley has some vetting to take care of and then he will be so excited to be a part of a family once again. Oakley was a year old in December, he is stunning, strong as a ox, but walks great on a leash.
Oakley loves other dogs, brought some of his favorite toys and treats with him and before you know it, he will find love once again.
2/28/25 Update: We picked Oakley up from boarding. That sweet boy is more than strong. Terry, who has significant strength, looked like he was water skiing behind a bulldog shaped boat.
We were concerned about his reaction to our three dogs at home. He was flawless. If a dog could say “yo, whassup?” when meeting his housemates, that was Oakley. He is charming, sweet, and very much at home. He had a drive by greeting with the cat so that’s the next step.
He has a cone because of his eye surgeries, we’re guessing. He was only wearing it at night in boarding. We’re not sure how to work that in a kennel crate.
3/14/25 Update: Oakley Owen had to go back to the vet for a follow-up on his eye, but he was a real trooper—adorable as always! He was a little more relaxed on the ride home and seemed more chill when he first got back. But as soon as he saw the rest of his crew waiting for him, he perked right up. Oakley Owen is truly an amazing guy—endlessly entertaining and full of personality.
He’s completely housebroken and will tolerate his crate, though he’s not its biggest fan. Oakley Owen plays wonderfully with the rest of the pack and gets along fine with the cats—though, let’s be honest, he’s pretty much bored by them (cue a big yawn). He’s incredibly affectionate and shows his foster parents love at every opportunity.
Oakley Owen is also full of surprises—like the fact that, contrary to what you might think about Bulldogs, he has no trouble opening French door handles and letting himself into any room. Getting himself out is a bit trickier, though! Meal times are a breeze for Oakley, as he shows zero food aggression toward the other three dogs in his pack.
Honestly, I hate to say it, but Oakley Owen is pretty close to flawless. He does need twice-daily ointment and eye drops, but that’s no big deal for him. We’re still puzzled by his tendency to sit on the armrests of the sofa—backwards, no less—but it’s so cute we can’t help but laugh. Oakley Owen would be an amazing addition to any family!
