Onyx Valentine came to a local shelter after she was found sitting in a crate on the side of a one-way highway, abandoned and alone.
It was fate that brought a kind-hearted man to notice Onyx’s plight. He immediately saw her desperate situation and didn’t hesitate to back up his truck to save her. With temperatures dropping into the teens, Onyx was shivering and freezing, and this man’s act of kindness saved her.
Today was our day to save her once again.
Our volunteer Debbie was able to pull Onyx out of the shelter and raced her to our vet for emergency surgery due to her vaginal prolapse.
While Onyx was under, Dr. Larsen also did a hernia repair, her spay and teeth extractions.
Dr. Larsen said this was the worst prolapse she’s ever seen. She did her best to get everything back in, but asked for our prayers. She thinks she’ll most likely have to do another surgery unless there’s a lot of shrinkage.
Onyx, we know life is tough right now, but so are you. There’s now a circle of strength and love surrounding you. Rest easy and heal. You’ll never be unwanted or go hungry again.
1/18/24 Update: Vet update on Onyx Valentine: Onyx is resting. Some of the swelling has gone down, but not all of it. She was able to go outside and urinate and she did eat breakfast today. Dr. Larsen wants everyone to know she is not out of the woods yet, but she is as good as can be expected. Thank you for keeping her in your thoughts.
2/29/24 Update: I got all fixed up by Dr. Larsen and now I’m ready for a new family. I don’t bark, bite, or chew, so I would be a perfect addition to any home. I am ready to give lots of love.
I enjoy playing fetch and going for walks, or I am perfectly happy just hanging out with you, sitting by your feet while you work. I have been through hard times, but you’d never know it by how sweet and loving I am!
3/5/24 Update: Miss Onyx Valentine is settling into foster home life quite nicely but is still looking for her forever home. I love to play with toys and have quickly learned how to use the dog door! I’ve been trained very well and eagerly respond to all commands (even if it’s to get in the crate). I’m still sweet as can be and just love being around people. Whether I’m napping, playing, or walking, I just want to be near my family. Nothing seems to bother me, not even loud noises or little kids pulling on me. I would be a great family dog. Please consider me!
