Sam Hunt (now Ricky)

Sam Hunt (now Ricky)

Sam Hunt and Wilma Lee have been adopted!  They are now known as Ricky and Lucy.

It is very befitting for these lovable babes. Ricky and Lucy will be living their best lives in the beautiful city of San Antonio.

Their forever Dad “Art” has been a long-time follower and supporter of our rescue.

After the passing of his own babe Walter in July, Art was ready to grow his family by two.  I know Ricky and Lucy will receive all the love, attention, and security of a loving family they so deserve.

Dad “Art” enjoys coming to our events so don’t be surprised if we see the dynamic duo again—Ricky & Lucy.

Hello friends, Sam Hunt here.  And today I joined rescue.

In the town I lived I was like a famous bulldog. I wandered around town—a lot! I was no stranger to animal control. I went to the shelter all the time. I wandered around town; they would see me and give me a lift to the shelter. Everyone at the shelter knew my name. And no one was surprised when they saw me coming thru the door. Shelter life was good for me. It was air-conditioned, 2 meals a day, play time and all the workers loved me.

I don’t know why I kept leaving home, but one day I think my family got tired of me escaping and they tied me up. I know that because I have rope burns around my neck. But guess what I did? I chewed the rope in two and headed out again. This time when animal control picked me up, I had half a rope with me. That’s how they knew my family had tied me up.  But all good things must come to an end and the last time of me wandering was it for me. My family was going to be fined, so they just left me at the shelter, so I could find another family.

So, it’s all good. I joined rescue. They love me, and I will find a family where I don’t have to live outside.

My days of digging under a fence are over, or so I have been told. And like the other Sam Hunt that sings “House Party” before you know it, I will have a house and we will have a party!  My name is Sam Hunt and I am 2 years old.

1/4/23 Update:  I have been with my foster family now for a week and I have been real busy getting familiarized with my new surroundings. I have two fur siblings and we are getting along well. There is a cat here too and I am not sure about her….Yuck! You will know more about me in the coming days. I just wanted to wish everyone a happy New Year!

1/17/23 Update:  Wow., Sam Hunt is something else. He reminds me of a delicious chocolate caramel.

He is well behaved with adults and some other pups. He plays well with the resident female, but not so good with the resident alpha. There seems to be a lot of around here.

At the moment, we’ve got a trainer working with us. We are working on boundaries (i.e., space, lunging) and learning common commands, like sit. Now that one is really tough on him.

He has overcome a few obstacles. For example, he needed to have

his left eye removed due to a congenital defect. He had microophthalmia. His eye was not formed correctly. He is still super cute and a little clumsy.

He is so gentle taking snacks from your hand. He enjoys being by your side. Loves kisses. Loves being cuddled. Loves watching TV. Loves to wrestle. Hates the water. Loves being outdoors.

Knowing his background of escaping or getting out of a yard, I made sure my entire yard was Sam Hunt-proof. I believe Sam knows he has people who love him and care for his needs. We give him the attention he has needed and will not let him out of our sights.

His forever family will need to be able to give him the attention and time he needs and that I believe he didn’t have before.

Sam Hunt is pretty special. He is realizing having a home with a family that cares is a lot better than being on the streets.

2/21/23 Update:  Sam Hunt is a routine kind a guy. Every morning, he wakes up, goes outside, comes back in to rough house and eat, goes outside to do his duties and comes back in to rest into a deep sleep.

3/3/23 Update:   Amazon just dropped off Sam’s new baby bear ears. I’m not sure if he likes them yet, but Foster Mom sure does!

Sam Hunt is delicious and the baby bear ears are perfect for him. He’s always reminded me of one of those delicious chocolate teddy bears or a baby cub ~ with the ears he truly is. Thank goodness Sam Hunt allowed me these few pics.

3/25/23 Update:   In the past week Sam Hunt has been getting to know his pet sitter a little better.  FM had to actually go into the office, ugh!

Sam Hunt had his daily play & walk with our pet sitter.  Matt sent us daily updates and these are just a few.

Sam is a great SHORT DISTANCE walker and when he walks Sam, he needs to be on Sam’s right side which gives Sam a better view and lead since he has no left eye.

He is photogenic.  Listens intently.   Sam seems to pull when he hears & sees little kids playing.  He just wants to get into the action.

Enjoys being chased.  All in all, he is a fun little guy.

5/12/23 Update:  Sam Hunt has been on rest for the past month. He’s got two more weeks to go. He got a slight muscle bruise to his leg, but he’s fine. We just needed him to recover. This morning, he decided to get up with me to do some planting outside. He needs to inspect each one with a few sniffs.

6/21/23 Update:  Sam Hunt likes to stand in the kitchen, salivating while the cook is preparing his meals. He wasn’t expecting to be serenaded to…. much less forced to sway with the music. He wanted to get out quickly, especially when the serenade started. The look on his face is priceless!

7/5/23 Update:  Foster boy Sam Hunt is ready to celebrate our Independence Day and wishing everyone a safe holiday!
